Pete Carroll's teams always seem to have a couple of these mental lapse games a year. When you're playing crappy teams, you can get away with that and still win, but when you're playing good teams, particularly on the road, you're going to pay. The Chargers are a good team that played well, and it showed in the end result, and they're obviously more used to the heat. It will probably result in a refocused team next week against Denver; playing in Seattle will obviously help as well.

Pete's freewheeling style tends to work in big games, but it seems to suffer a little bit in the not so-primetime games. I see some of the same mental mistakes (stupid avoidable penalties, notably) that I saw when USC lost games in Corvallis in 2006 and 2008.
