So you only find X-Factors in the top 2 spots?

    Niedermayer- 3rd overall
    Selanne - 10th overall
    Lidstrom - Rd3 53 overall
Rifalski on D - I assume this is Rafalski - undrafted.
    Osgood - Rd3 54 overall
    Hasek - 199th overall
    Datsyuk - 171st overall
    Zetterberg - 210 overall
    Kopitar - 11th overall
    Quick - Rd3 72nd overall
    Toews - 3rd overall
    Hossa - 12th overall
    Keith - 54th overall

That's a ton of #1/2 overall guys there and I'm sure all their scouting reports said, FUCK THIS GUY IS GONNA WIN CUPS BUT HOLD OUT HE'LL BE AROUND UNTIL THE 7th ROUND

    are you fucking stupid?

"Monahan combines that two-way talent with strong leadership qualities. In many ways, he’s akin to Gabriel Landeskog. He will not dominate a game in any flashy way, but will control it behind the scenes and very quickly assume a leadership role on any of the teams that draft him."

Sounds like a leadership X-factor to me. If Toews was such a team changer at his draft, why did Eric Johnson go #1 overall and your beloved Penguins draft Jordan Staal?

So if MAYBE peaking into landeskogs level is monahans potential flames fans should be excited to lose in the first round?

My point is, you never know who is going to be that guy who leads you to a cup and you can draft them anywhere. You can look at two teams who tanked for years and stockpiled Top 3 talent. The Penguins, 1 Cup, which honestly is pathetic compared to the "talent". The Oilers, a laughingstock atm. The best thing for any team, is to win. Getting one of the top two picks, every single year, doesn't mean you get good.

Your argument is dumb as fuck because you are using the flawed logic of, "the top two players in this draft are amazing and we know it". They both could very well turn into superstars and win cups or they could both turn into Eric Johnson and Jordan Staal, who were highly overrated. The "X-factor" players you listed and where they got drafted only proves your logic wrong. We also have no idea what Landeskog is going to peak into but my point was, his scouting report says not elite offensive talent but good two way player who will be a leader. Which sounds like Toews to me.

Judai and I are in total agreement. You can't make a successful team based on scouting reports of 16 year old kids, hoping that they'll become the best players in the history of history and carry their teams on their backs. You never know how any of these kids will develop when pitted against bigger, stronger, faster, more experienced veterans. This "x-factor" or "once in a generation" type of phrase gets so overblown. Sure, the prospects could be fantastic. But you take McDavid, put him on Buffalo or Florida or even Edmonton, put him into the league right away, and do any of those teams get instantly better? Are they instantly going to become a cup contender? Even 5 years down the line? I really doubt it.

Building a winning franchise starts with expecting your team to win. Demanding that even if the team is god-awful, nothing short of winning is acceptable. Is Calgary a good team right now? Fuck no. Brill, you are mostly right when you describe the team. Players like Glencross or Stajan aren't going to be the difference between winning the cup or not. But that doesn't change the fact that the team is winning, and some really tough games too. They strive to win and even on the wins, aren't satisfied with how they win some nights. I'll take that over "it's okay we lost, we'll get McDavid. Brb, making a Flames McDavid jersey". We have lots of prospects with great potential. But that potential is meaningless if they don't have an environment to grow and the message from the management is "you're good... but this kid who is a few years younger then you will be a lot better, so we're okay with sucking so we can have him and you can try to help him be better".

I take a lot of pleasure and solace in knowing that to really piss Sep off, all you have to do is call his opinion stupid. Which quite often they are, including now. You totally missed Judai's point. And to think that Landeskog has peaked or that Colorado losing in the first round last year is all on him just cements the point that your opinions are really fucking dumb.

And here Brill, an article posted 3 days ago about our "fringe prospects" from the website Sep posted earlier. The cupboards aren't exactly empty. The Flames have been drafting well the last couple years

You're the stupid one, you suck ass even at ball hockey and you'd prefer the Flames not have Conner Mcdavid who, yes, actually, would make EDM/FL/BUF far better instantly. Hes not a Seguin/Hall Yakupov/Murray "good in 3-5 years" player. By all accounts of people who are paid to view prospects for a living because people other than yourself DO believe in scouting, he is a Crosby/Toews/Malkin/Ovi immediate impact player.

Everyone "in the hunt" lately was either the tail end of the loaded Red Wings, the Penguins (Crosby/Malkin/Kendrick), the Bruins (Chara and arguably Thomas/Bergeron), the Kings (Kopitar/Doughty/Quick), and the Blackhawks (Kane/Toews/Hossa). There is something to be said about balance and depth, but every team in the final 4-8 teams has at least above average balance and depth typically. What you need is a generational talent to make your "good forwards" or "good defensemen corps" greater than their set of good forwards or good defensemen.

No one - in this era - has won without having at least one player who is top 5 in the world at their position.

    Neidermeyer/Pronger/Selanne when ducks won.
Lidstrom/Rifalski on D, Osgood/Hasek in net, and Datsyuk/Zetterberg in their prime at forward.
    Crosby/Malkin
    Kopitar/Doughty/Quick
    Kane/Toews/Hossa/Keith

These are top end players. These are not SEAN FUCKING MONAHAN OR JOHNNY GODREAU.

You are a fucking idiotic moron if you think Sean Monahan will develop into Crosby or Toews.
You are a fucking idiotic moron if you think Johnny Godreau will develop into Kane or Malkin.
And you are a fucking idiotic moron if you think the Flames are better served missing the playoffs by 4 points this year than potentially drafting Eichel or McDavid.
I for one am glad to see Osgood getting the respect he deserves as a top 5 in the world at his position player

Really though Buffalo is so bad Calgary might as well get some wins and gamble on the draft lottery, Buffalo has the worst record locked up

If hes close enough to at least arguably be a hall of famer, than that duo is arguably a hall of famer backing up a hall of famer. Can get much better in net than that.

I've been arguing against your opinion and comments, and you reply with personal attacks. Classy as always Sep.

And you've totally missed my point again. I've never said I wouldn't like to have McDavid on the team. I've been arguing that deliberately playing bad or a team allowing bad play for a good player is stupid. But seriously, keep kicking a dead horse. Keep bringing up sexist comments that in 1 game, I commented on how I played ball hockey with a girl who could score goals. You're winning everyone over, keep it up champ.

I didnt say anything about a girl or girls in general.

You eventually elaborated and said you hadn't scored at all yet that season

Which is pretty damn hard to do in ball hockey

Whats it like to be Canadian yet both suck at hockey and knowing general credible facts about hockey?

My bad. I guess never playing ice hockey growing up and joining an adult rec ball hockey league in my mid-20's where I'm not the best at everything makes me a terrible awful human being. Thanks for pointing that out Sep. Please, keep guiding us with your wisdom champ. Next you'll be telling me that I was a loser for doing theatre in highschool and not being the star quarterback on the football team.

And I dunno about Pittsburgh or wherever the fuck you're from, but girls being good at hockey or sports or anything in general in Canada isn't anything new or profound.

The Oilers have actually been playing pretty well lol. Strong backcheck, Stamkos has been quiet, Hall was rallying up the crowd before he scored on his penalty shot.

To be fair, in our generation, the 3 Penguins first overall picks has turned to Cups. They're ingrained with the fact that #1 overall picks has to lead to success. They cannot see it any other way.
