It's because:

"OMG SPOILERS!"

They don't want people potentially seeing spoilers of any kind or getting items early or access to the dats and such early. Since there's no reason to not allow it when the data doesn't exist on our computers or activated on the servers yet and only exists on the dev servers.

They simply use it as a "control", much like people will spend most of early access even TRYING to access it.

I'm not talking about installing any data.
I am talking about registering on their website. Which is nothing but telling them you pre-ordered it and flagging your account for early access. You still have to register your product code.

Happened on release of ffxiv also, nothings changed!

Couldn't load page to input code, couldn't load launcher HTTP/HTTPS errors
couldn't load character, couldn't load zone (too many in zone/black hole error <-- I believe it was actually called that in the error message)

ah those were the days... it made you fear logging off or changing zones, because you'd probably not get back in for about 30min-> 5 hours+

Well the initial problems at 2.0 launch were tied to the duty finder server not being able to handle the load. After they fixed that, login problems disappeared. So we shouldn't see a duplication of that particular problem. But I do look forward to having entire zones get crushed and have 4000 people in one zone doing cut scenes, that should be fun.

Also we're ten weeks from expansion now. Good times!

Area's like corethas and that 1 area of gridania with the coreal king especially were lagging/crashing/emergency maintenance zone outages.

Ah the good ol days... people complaining about not seeing monsters load 1 step in front of themselves, unable to zone. Mass PS3 players complaining they can't see anything or anyone at all and lagging everywhere.

Then learning you have to spend money/time upgrading to a SSD for your PS3 to be a viable player

They deserve no sympathy. PS4 master race. People could get a job and work for 2-3 weeks at 8$ an hr and still make enough. ~_~

lol I have a PS4 with a SSD now (also with new firmware update I don't even have to log in to FFXIV to play)

I've been slackin on purchasing an SSD for my PS4, but it still loads & plays well even without. I'll probably pick one up alongside my gaming laptop overhaul before expansion.

I want to build a gaming PC, but not really to game ON, but for streaming purposes. The Mac version of OBS is horrible.

It is indeed pretty bad. You could do well just picking up a high end laptop too if you don't want a space saver. Alienware pretty solid for that type of thing as well, esp if it's a high end model. Then again, with the money to buy an Alienware you could pimp out a great gaming rig, lol.

Yeah I've been looking at stuff for when my next settlement comes in (which looks like it may be soon), so I may be dropping a grand or two on something.

the 850 EVO is $170... for one day only (today) well not including shipping charges but anyway...!

I have an i5 Alienware Alpha (those steam machine things), and it plays XIV perfectly.
