The problem with relic being an incentive to add high level players back into low level content is that it was only really effective during peak log-in periods (basically the rushers after each relic step upgrade).

Going forward I guess they mentioned letting people go into low dungeons with an incomplete party which will help, but there is always a tank and healer shortage even with the high levels thrown in. That's the real low level bottleneck and it's not something high levels help that much with imo.

FATEs do scale to participants the last time it was up; it's much easier to solo most FATEs up to mid 30s when it's only like 1-3 people in the zone and 1-3 people actively doing FATEs. The relic horde doing 200-man FATEs made it much harder for people to clear it after they left, lol.

i think you're being overly influenced by the vocal minority. most people either avoided the quest completely or just sucked it up and did it. the ones that actually did it and caused grief for newbies are a very small population.

and considering they didn't have an alternative to develop new content, the quest for the most part did what they wanted it to do.

I'm not being influenced by anyone or anything. Everything I stated is my own personal opinion on the matter, coupled with first hand experience. It's not even purposely causing grief, it just happens naturally when an advanced player wants to rush through the content and someone else isn't going at their pace. No words even have to be exchanged for the experience to be unpleasant for someone.

You can't be sure of their ability to develop or not to develop new content. They spent time developing a pointless Odin fight, so there's that.

All I'm saying is they could have made do with what they had in a different manner. Also, consider Seravi 's point above: throwing a bunch of higher level players into the queue didn't fix the queue times or balance anything out. On the initial rush it might have shortened queue times on average, but class distribution was more than likely the same. DPS still have to wait, and healers and tanks always have shorter queue times.

I just think it would have been more productive and fun had the system been different. Do I have a better solution? None that I could name off the top of my head, just opinion and speculation.

The atma portion of the quest didn't function as intended half the time either. Fates melted way too fast for new players to take advantage of since the lack of a choco meant they got there late. It got better over time as the rush calmed down at least.

most people don't care as long as they finish. that minor unpleasantness is nothing compared to not being able to do the content at all.

Gold Saucer, 2.5 and Heavensward all didn't hit their earlier release projections. that tells you everything. Odin was mostly recycled assets.

everything can always be done differently. there's no magic to fix everything completely, it made the queues better than if they didn't do it at all. do you have anything that would support the contrary?

more productive and fun for relic grinders wasn't their top priority, it got paying subscribers to spend more time in the game at almost no development cost.

yea the FATEs they definitely messed up and not too hard to fix. they do regularly botch open world content all the time.

Layonell. Do you have any evidence whatsoever to back up ANY of your claims? As of right now none of your statements have any credibility.

I'm not saying that everything I've stated is correct, but you have nothing to back up any of your above statements. You know nothing about their development process, their resources, their production direction, or their goals.

Furthermore, are you a subscriber of this game or a Square Enix shareholder? The decisions SE makes to fill their pockets do NOT equal player satisfaction in all cases. So therefore, getting players to play the game more by creating arbitrary grind might not equal success from a players perspective. That's the issue at hand here.

If you want to continue to argue these points, please have some sort of evidence or logical reasoning to back up your claims.

I can't speak for the other languages, but for Heavensward, Yoshi needs to hire whoever was the English voice director for XII ASAP.

And no one cared because the VAs and the script were fucking excellent.

(well, we noticed and we cared, but the crappy audio had nothing to do with the VAs)

If there's one thing ARR taught me it's to not bother with any relic quest in Heavensward. I still haven't even finished my ARR relic despite only needing a few mahatma, I just can't bring myself to do it. I will of course before the expansion because it's only a few hours grind at this point, but fuck spending hundreds of hours on trash content in Heavensward. The only part of the relic quest they got right was the original 2.0 quest and that's pretty sad.

That means you don't even do roulette or you would have been done a long time ago. Mahatma isn't grindy. Beside the books quests and the nexus part the relic quest is well implemented.

I stopped caring about capping poetics a couple of months ago and have only ran the 2.5 dungeons a few times each. But it kinda helps that I have more dreadwyrm for my alt jobs than my main. I suppose it comes down to what you consider a good implementation. For some people a good implementation is a long grindy chore because it gives them something to waste their time on as if FFXIV is the only thing in their lives worth doing, but for some a good implementation is somewhat challenging but not grindy, kinda like the original quest at launch.

what claims are you talking about? that not everything was released when they initially wanted them to be? they didn't blatantly miss any dates they announced, usually they are vague enough about their dates where that hasn't happened yet but they always tend to release stuff at the backend of the ranges that they announce. if they say Q3, it's probably going to be done closer to September than July.

unless your opinion is that they are all lazy asses that sit around and don't do anything, logic dictates that they don't have the development resources to create new content for the relic quest. i'm not the one making a claim here, you are. it's a fact the relic quest adds a lot of play time for people who participate in it and it's a fact that it doesn't take a lot of resources to implement what they implemented.

MMO players will never have enough content, i'm just a little more reasonable in my expectations. do you have evidence to support that they have lots of unused resources for new content? yes, SE has a lot of money it doesn't mean the ARR Dev Team has access to it.

it's pointless to talk about the greed of the corporation and how much money goes back into development cost and how much goes to the shareholders. you can only talk about the quality of the content given the resources that they seem to have.

when i complained about Hunts, i said they should be more like treasure maps. when i complain about Atma, i said they should have Fates drop shards so that when you collect an X number of them eventually you can piece an Atma together even if your RNG luck sucks. neither of those are huge changes that takes vast resources, they just make the player experience better.

it's unrealistic to say this simple quest sucks and they should have new relic bosses like Hydra and Chimera every step of the way. no shit we all want more new unique content that most of the players actually want to play.

and i think my other big point was that they want to retain subscribers and the Relic quest does that. what the hell kind of evidence do you want for that? just look at all the people who have them.

You're going to do it because Alexander Hard will probably still be subject to RNG and hilariously bad drop rates due to the addition of three more jobs to the mix. If you didn't get fucking dog dick out of 5-9-13 for your main job's weapon when they were the pinnacle, wait until Heavensward; it's going to be dramatically worse if they fail to address this.

By comparison, the Zodiac grind was fine outside of three dungeons for the 125 taking over 20 runs to cough the shit up (while it was uncapped anyway, fuck this capped nonsense now).

I hate how he's afraid of hybrid classes but it makes sense. Skill Trees though, especially with how people generally play in this game as is in DEFINED roles....is going to be the most magnificent train wreck ever witnessed or a beautiful thing.

I duno, if a branching skill tree allows jobs to branch to different roles like make War or Pld fill a dps role instead of tank, or make say Nin or Mnk fill a tank role, It could be great if implemented well. In Fact this this ever becomes reality people will be able to get their dps drk.
