Yep. Which is why 3.0 should be amazing or they had no intention on making something good, just something to shovel off to people they know will lap up it (which is fine for them, more money from people who'll take what they can get.) Every time something was requested or "will x change between 2.1-2.5?" we were given the 1.x excuse of: "Wait until 3.0 as the development tea is fully focusing on it."
I think (hope) that the story will be better, however, most of the other content looks like it's going to follow the same awful progression and difficulty structure that 2.x has had.
3.0 will be all story, Normal Mode Alex, and then Hard Mode Alex. 3.1 will be EX Primals and Casual Tower. Rinse and repeat. Whatever sells subscriptions.
All I want is some content that is not a boss fight. Every single piece of content they have released in this game involves boss fights.
I don't necessarily want a rehash of salvage or nyzul isle (the newer version of nyzul), but I would like content that challenges the player in other ways...
P.S. I know nyzul and salvage had bosses, but I don't consider them to be the only challenge of the content.
I loved Nyzul.
Turn 3 wasn't a boss fight but a mini dungeon crawl that can more or less be skipped. A bit of a flaw on that one, I think if the pads were randome each time and each platform or "floor" had a random boss it'd be pretty popular/fun.
I suppose if you mean challenging the players, WoW's Flame Leviathan is a good example of a "none boss" fight.
You want something like this? Though becareful. People can't even operate a cannon with 1 or 2 buttons. The vehicles in this encounter some have 3!!!
breakdown of fight (simplified):
kill adds using vehicles
Some vehicles are 2 man operated (1 drives, 1 shoots)
kill towers (breaks down barrier)
actual boss appears; kill boss (video starts here)
team has to maintain killing adds, shooting down these blue rocks (basically mana for the tanks) to maintain dps
Just spreading the highest iLv. armor and accessories across 3+ events (Alexander Hard, something, something else, etc.) would do a lot to alleviate the painfully obvious reality that there's basically fucking nothing to do aside from that one event. Throwing difficult shit like Legion at us would be fine I suppose; could also be expanded into an FC-scale event (something which is painfully fucking lacking). Then again, i'd be fine with less difficult stuff in general, as long as it meant actually having a reason to log in more than one night a week/for something besides only Coilxander.
Or better yet, make 3+ sets of top-Item Level gear that allows us some more mix-and-match customization, from these 3+ events For a slightly radical suggestion: Zodiac armor; I'd totally sink every last Gil into min-maxing that shit, maybe even for more than 2 jobs.
But they're obviously not doing any of that beyond the bare minimum, which is a problem. I suspect a decent chunk of the people in my FC who went on hiatus until Heavensward are probably not coming back (based on their incredibly tepid reactions to this past Live Letter) due it being the same fucking status quo we've had since 2.1 (which we've all voiced displeasure with).
I have to hope there will be some kind of roadblock for bottom-feeders going forward. When you still see BLMs up and coming that, well into 50, still have no idea how to execute their rotation it makes me think how much worse it's going to be in HW when the ceiling goes higher but they just stay on the floor.
I'm not asking for top DPS, I just want competence or the humility to take a critique.
We all know we want roadblocks for "bottom-feeders", but the said truth is that SE caters to their casual player base because they're the majority, I guess.
The unfortunate thing is that players just don't learn; they don't have to be bad, but many players never learn t be good. I also think that there's a lack of ways to teach people how to play their jobs, I dunno.
What we really need as I've been saying for months is variable high level content to stay relevant, and multiple maximum ilvl gearsets. Give us that, the game will drastically improve.
Yeah I would definitely prefer top ilvl accessories to drop in an event separate from alex/coil, similar to what they did with the extreme primals initially. I never understood why they got rid of this system, and I especially never understood why they removed the newer extreme primals from DF upon release. Yeah people will complain about DF, but who cares? If people want to learn the fights or just torture themselves, they should have the opportunity to do so.
Anyway, that's slightly off-topic. Content that has objectives other than just kill boss x99 would be great. If they could do something imaginative with trash--similar to dynamis/limbus/etc.--that would be a welcome addition.
Turn 3 is a good start, but yeah, very flawed.
I think Turn 4 did that well. There is no real "boss."
A combination of turn 4 + turn 7 elevator would be awesome. Culminating in a boss fight would be cool too because then at least the trash was part of the fight.
What we REALLY need is a god damn ingame DPS meter. The people who are consistently bad are the people who don't realize how hard they're being owned. With how many DPS checks are in the game it's absolutely stupid that there's NO way for Average Joe DPS to find out how well/poorly he's doing. A fairly large portion of the playerbase is already using it and Yoshi-P MUST know about that considering he's an MMO player himself, so the argument that it would hurt the game really isn't a very good one.
Oh yeah, that's true. I completely blanked on that fight. An entire event or raid focused around mechanics similar to T4 would be fun. The mechanics of T2 were pretty cool too; they were similar to the cop dynamis zones were you could lock specific moves from the zone boss.
Then SE just went with generic bosses for second and final coil, and we haven't really had any variety since.

That's some awesome art! I haven't been following the hype train too much but wasn't Warring Triad already shown in one of the videos months ago when they showed the floating continent stuff?
Interceptor minion pls
Fiend (Doom/Sephiroth) on the left Goddess in the middle, Demon (Poltergeist) on the right.
Pretty excited that they otherwise confirmed the Waring Triad. Hopefully they find an interesting way of pulling their FFVI lore into FFXIV.

Sen just sourced some of the details after media embargo was lifted:
http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/commen...p_up_and_away/AF2 is < 170.
il170 equipment is 2.0 DL equivalent.
il steps up every 2 levels.
gear levels are basically esoteric, upgraded esoterics, alex normal, whatever the other tome is called, alex hard.
Alex gears will look exactly the same, but alex hard gear will be dyeable.
crafted gear in 3.05.
With that said, BiS right now in 2.57 will at best carry everyone to about level 53-55 before becoming outdated, so there's that.
