I was promised an API for addons, not an API so I can modify my UI only.

Not really a fan of add-ons, either. If the game/UI can't properly convey something important, it behooves the players to bug SE to fix it universally instead of a third-party that then turns into not everyone having it and petty in-fighting between the two camps. Or how suddenly they can't play the game post-patch until it's fixed.
Addon API is a big no no but having a third-party parser that detects when or what debuff you have to call out if you need to move so you don't need to pay attention to it, and calling out the rotation of the boss is just fine.
I can't say calling out boss rotations is fine. Then again, I don't really think bosses should have rotations to begin with. :/
I don't use ACT in FCoB personally. People who use it on every single move in the game confuse the hell out of me. 99% of it is worthless to call out with except maybe the thunder debuff on t11. Nothing off the top of my head is worth calling out in FCoB other than that.
Not like they can't make a system where each use of a move makes it less likely the next will be the same. Or for a mob to favor a given set at given percentages. There are lots of ways to have a fight not feel like a dance.
If you watch some of Death and Taxes videos one their Warriors has ACT call out most of the moves in the game.

Calls out megaflare, flatten, and ahk morn. All things which have absolutely no reason to be called out. And he isn't the only person I've seen doing it.
Edit2: not knocking DnT, just using it as an example.
Weren't you the one that made an addon for that one clunky and resource whore of a parser for Twintania when to call out basically everything? or at least advertised something of the sort
Then you're locked to Tumult, Landslide and WotL, woo what a fight.
Then fix PLD.
But the more things go on, the more it seems like being considered skillful is more a matter of how lazy one can be and/or have things automated for them.
