Cover seems to be an ability mostly intended for PvP (like Shadowbind, One-Ilm Punch, Sleep, Miasma 2, etc). There are several abilities that have no real purpose in PvE.

Cover, has saved the WHM's life countless times in T12 from beannu's. There is also, the random chance of the ghost of mercadia like things in T13, that love to go to the whm (or eos) during T13. Oh and cover, on someone that gets too close up front and "may" get swiped, in T11, actually saw a PLD use it to save someone there, so 2 people don't instant explode/die from tethers.
I doubt DRK will have cover to save people from anything flying at them (like a WHM almsot always has)
speaking of the 2. bennu has some wierd hate bugg mechanic and would allways go on spawn for me sch(due to bane) my eos due to pet regen after whitefire or the whm. we had several instances where the pld couldnt pull hate off with various abilitys and the 2. bennu would stick first to one of us for 5 sec before leting go if us, as if it is totally ignoreing all pld action. we only encounter this issue on the 2. bennu never on the others.
Cover has niche uses, but they are good, legit uses. Once, our WHM had aggro on Nael after Megaflare, and he had already used Shroud. Wipe? No, WHM stands aside where PLD usually goes, Cover, Nael falls, PLD takes damage, provoke, keep going. The same can be said about Tempered Will, for example. It's such a great utility in some situations that, even if it's not absolutely necessary to clear anything, it's really good to have it.
You can also use Cover for Earthshakers in P1 and it's useful in pretty much every dungeon where you group pull or if any of your party members is a dumbass with aggro (usually only WHM) or if for some reason you have nothing else to keep your healer alive.
The one thing I hate about Cover is how Hallowed Ground doesn't work with it.
Bulwark works with it, I dunno about anything else. I guess because block/parry is checked after the damage?
I was under the impression it simply gave you the damage the person you covered would have otherwise taken. It's interesting that shield/parry can proc on Cover'd hits though, never knew that.
To steer back to expansion discussion, if SE follows the same pattern for trait/ability acquisition as 1-50 for 50-60 we should be looking at 3 Traits, 2 Class abilities, and 2 Job abilities with the new level cap. I'm hoping they finally give PLD back Holy Succor and maybe trait Bulwark to grant an Aegis Boon type effect where blocked attacks heal you. Really a lot of 1.20+ abilities they removed would make nice additions to the current line up for all jobs.
Food for thought, BRD/ACN/BLM/WHM all get their "Action Damage Up" type abilities every 20 levels and 60 should be a trait if it follows the same pattern. Wonder if they'll allow ACN to get 4 Aetherflow stacks and BLM to go up to Astral Fire/Ice 4. Considering how ridiculous a damage increase that would be I doubt it, but something to keep in mind.
Stacking buff w/ IV instead of III would be ugly as fuck pls no
Don't worry, I'm sure there is some sort of excuse they can come up about memory or size that they cannot and will not expand Aetherflow to have a 4th or 5th stack because it would take too many resources for the extra bit in the code, and the added file size of the new graphic to display the higher stack would just be too much for the console peasants to handle.
Couldn't they just change it to a subscript arabic numeral like they do with stacking debuffs from Coil? Make it distinguishable from debuffs by making it a superscript instead since ultimately you want the number not covering the buff icon and superscript would put the number in the empty space where the ^ part starts.
no fuck you
Would that apply to MNKs getting a 4th Greased Lightning stack as well? Can't really see how they would justify any of those traits considering how substantial a boost they would give while leaving DRG/NIN in the dust.
Enhanced Huton also boosts physical damage dealt or a new type of Poison for Ninja obvi
Dragoon? Get fucked for a year LOL
Cover uses all your defensive buffs when calculating damage, not the person's your covering. The only thing that doesn't work is hallowed ground. Shield Oath, Bulwark, Foresight, Sentinel, etc. They all work. And the person you're covering having blood for blood on won't make you take more damage.
I'm in the same boat that PLD could definitely use some adjustments, mostly in regards to AOE damage of some sort, a 3rd hit combo on riot blade, oaths not being on GCD. I'm a little confused at riot blade not restoring enough mp for flash, every time I've used flash>riot combo I have enough mp to flash again from refresh. Is that not the case and I'm just being slow or something?
Interestingly enough Riot Blade seems to restore 133mp on both my gladiator and my paladin. They have 1202mp and 1482mp respectively. Every stat changes on job equip. And damage doesn't seem to effect the mp restored? Is it based on level? Flash is also 212mp regardless of if I'm gld or pld.
