A majority of the primal themes, granted they're good for the most part aside from the terrible lyrics.
Oh and housing ward themes.
Edit: To be more specific I just don't prefer the music being pushed so far into the background. It's a shame that Soken didn't realize people wanted to listen to the music while they played until fans kept asking for extended themes repeatedly. As the sound director his style sets the tone for all of the music in the game, where it's placed, when it's played, and how it sounds. So it's less of the fact that the actual music doesn't feel like FF it's the manner in which the player comes across it.
Honestly, as much as people love/hate the whole "x isn't FF!", when you really look back at the music, FF games has a certain..style to it even when they mix it up (Mystic Quest/SaGa games etc) and XIV's music, least ARR, sounds the least in some areas. The primal themes are nice but FF has never really been lyric heavy, only certain instances were songs lyrical (and of course are always memorable due to the event tied to them.)
1.23's final fight, for example - Phase 2 'Rise of the White Raven' was memorable because it was pretty much his FFVII wetdream shining through (yoshida really does love VII when you review that whole story arc) but now it sounds like something you'd find it..really any other MMO, which is fine..but Lost City I could safely say was one of the more 'FF' style songs they've done in awhile. The section of music that plays at the Burning Wall is another example.
Let's get something straight here: there's nothing wrong with any of the music. Its thematic importance and relevance is up for personal debate, but the songs themselves aren't poorly arranged or orchestrated.

I wanted to agree with you, but there are a lot of really good songs in XIV. I'd put Coerthas, Natalan, Castrum Meridianum, Garuda, Titan 1 & 5, Leviathan 2, CT1 idle, CT1 battle, Turn 3, Frontline, and Starlight Festival against XI's best.

Didn't Zaharak have the same music it does now, like Natalan and U'Ghamaro?

Shiva second phase would like a word with you.
But i do agree: if there is one fight in the game that should be death metal, it's the one against a flaming horned hell demon. Titan's music would fit Ifrit perfectly.

Shiva's music doesn't match well either, but it's closer to being thematic than Ifrit's is. Titan's music is pretty special however. I think it's easily the best music for a primal, if we aren't counting Ultima Weapon.

Please read, son.
We were talking about battle music. The music I linked is what played when you fought there. (Which is also what would be playing when you are grinding.)

In ARR Zahar'ak/Natalan/U'ghamoro, there is no "battle music." The stronghold music keeps playing through fights, and I thought it did the same in 1.0.
