A villain who covets money and power above everything else? Who thinks of the small folk and government as personal playthings? Who believes worth is counted in coin? Who SE has essentially given no redeeming qualities to?

Sounds like the perfect character to give a horrible death to. After he tries to blow up Ul'Dah with Omega. The Lalafell part is just delicious icing.

^ He's already a proper villain, just one that hasn't crossed us overtly like everyone we've been tasked with punching in the face. Perhaps you wouldn't take anything he does seriously because of his size, Vrumpt, but I could argue the other side of the same coin: its the villainous Roe males that look like buffoons based on the way SE has chosen to script them thus far (hint: needlessly short-sighted objectives and base emotions).

Final Fantasy Tactics had plenty of villains like the midget, and all of them got their proper screen time and felt like proper assholes when the time came for them to actually be ousted. How much of an actual badass a villain turns out to be needs only to factor in a single thing: what he manages to accomplish.

So far, he's doing pretty well, and what makes him better than most is that he knows that people are suspicious of him and his goals, but also knows that none are in a position to stop him any in way, so long as he doesn't slip up on his own end. Being a villain while playing politics is much more difficult than being a grandstanding cave-of-power waltzer who just plotkai's their way into into the role of evil dude.

You know, like Sephiroth. Walk here, kill this, walk there, kill that, have backstory tell that you're super awesome from birth to make everything easier, blah blah. This right here is political intrigue. I'm interested to see where it plays out.

All that's missing is that key event that propels a direct conflict. Is it Omega? Is it the death of Nanamo? Some deal with an Ascian? (plsno) A grandiose speech? Direct opposition to Raubahn's reforms? Attacking Ul'Dah? Lolorito is a douche but Teledji is the real Dycedarg here.

Some shit's gotta happen. I'd bet on Nanamo getting sniped as it paves the way for real change in Ul'Dah, propels Raubahn to the obvious presidential figure he wants to be and gives Ul'Dah a reason to pause and evaluate that shit is pretty terrible as it stands. It also gives the Royalists reason to back Raubahn outright since he had the ear of the Empress.

Ul'Dah desperately wants to be Limsa Lominsa. A corrupt nest but at least one with a sure rudder of a leader.

Did you guys forget that you're playing an MMO.

Whatever happens, Nanamo's not going anywhere, the bad guys gonna succeed at something but fail in the end in such a way that nothing really changes and the status quo is maintained.

Didn't WoW have actual shit change the world? It's 2015 that tired and trite "status quo" shit can gtfo.

WoW says hi, and even though I stopped playing after WotLk because felt like the only villain worth killing from that point on was Sargeras himself (which ain't ever happening), I admire them for not being too afraid to outright off important people if need be.

We just lost a relatively new secondary character. I don't feel that city faction leaders are immune to being killed, especially in any game that has proper Phasing (which ARR does at this point). As much as I love my little Lala queen, that final CS with her and the gals is pretty sullen, and I could easily see her being sniped or otherwise offed to make way not only for the growth of Uldah, but for the growth of the plot. Having people you enjoy seeing die is a great way to motivate the player to fulfilling the mission of killing the baddie aside from the loot pinata rewards that come with it.

I know that in XI, I never wanted to kill anyone in that game more than I did the Ark Angels and those damned Zilart after they offed Raogrimm in that badass CS. I still watch that from time to time. I felt similar during the Wrathgate event in WoW, though it was to a lesser degree.

Moenbryda (sp) was introduced to be killed off.

If they actually followed through with world changing events, I'd be very, very surprised.

I'm not seeing a wellspring of evidence that shows they won't. If anything, shit's pretty goddamn ripe for it right now heading into a new Xpac and with the current savoir of the land stripped of their plotshield.

Ul'Dah having two leaders leaves room for them eliminating one without much risk. It also adds a dude to the female-heavy leader roster and an Ala Mihgan no less. Also finally puts Ul'Dah on even ground with Limsa/Gridania. Even by SE conservative standards, Nanamo being killed off/put on a bus doesn't really matter when Raubahn has been the de facto leader of Ul'Dah already. Who was at Carteneau heading up the Flames? Yeah.

That cutscene at the end of Dreams of Ice where Nanamo intends to abdicate the throne essentially ended her story arc. If SE isn't ballsy enough to write out someone standing on weak reasoning for being kept around, Heavensward doesn't fare well in the story department.

Funny the Zilart bros get mentioned as they were 'written out' as being unable to take audiences from Zilart onward if you did missions.

There are plenty of ways they could kill her off, poison, stabbing, throwing her off the balcony and having her head impailed on one of the many spikes in the street, would be a great decoration but would never happen because gotta have that T rating.

Or they kill off Raub and she vows to become a warrior badass and lead as he would... maybe?

There's also the convenience of the Echo to keep in mind. Any events that don't necessarily make sense within the current timeline can easily be written as, "Oh, you're seeing it with the Echo."

They can kill Nanamo and basically keep most things the same because of it, really.

Wtf is wrong with you guys?! why are you so hell bent on killing nanamo?

She already said she is going to step down and remove the monarchy for a democracy. Why does she need to die? She might just move to aht urghan. For all we know, raubahn might decide to go with her and protect her.

Never know what they will do for a leader, raubahn seems obvious but I think the whole point of story telling isnt to completely foreshadow your story and not be obvious with everything.

Her dying would be a surprise but totally unnecessary for her departure from the throne and story.

Well outside of main story Nanamo only really appears in the final culinarian quest right? Would it really be that hard to change one quest should she die? I love Nanamo but her dying would bring alot of weight to the story and set the tone for Heavensward. Since SE probably doesn't have the balls to kill her though I bet "worst" thing that happens is she leaves ul'dah to go on a journey of self discovery or some nonsense.

"LEAVE NANAMO ALONE!" is all I heard from this.

Way to dash in like a protector. I'm sure she's grateful to you for your support.

Snidely Whiptaru is gonna try a coup or something with the help of an outside party (Garleans, Ascians, Ishgard? idk) that turns on him when things go bad or when their own priorities come to the forefront, we stop them or whatever, Nanamo realizes she has to stay on the throne to maintain order.
