Anyone want to farm tombstones of solidarity in Ampador HM? I want my relic weapon before Heavens Ward releases.
Tombstones!
So was trying to explain the personal/FC airship thing to a friend and I came to the realization that it's kinda like an enhanced Moblin Maze Mongers. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the idea of gaining access to special items/monsters through a series of combinations of pieces/parts just pretty much a different take on the boards/plaques used in MMM? Like you build your Highwind Type-E airship with Ultima engines and Dark Matter fuel and Darksteel plated armor and you are able to visit the island that contains the NM Sobek or whatever and they drop special items that no other bosses drop. I'm pretty sure Yoshida said you could share info on what types of parts and where you searched to find the same islands as another group to get the same monsters. About the only thing I see as different besides the theme of sky vs underground is MMM was instanced while from what I remember Yoshida saying you can see other FCs fighting stuff on the same island you find.
Haha, never saw it that way. I think you more or less figured it out.
He hasn't explained how we would visit areas at all, but it still seems to be an offset of how MMM works -- I can only imagine that having the right combination of thrusters, engine, lift, wings etc will allow for your to bring your aircraft to an instance of a dungeon which would be otherwise unreachable, even by Duty Finder. That alone would sell people into building airships, as long as there are tons of separate dungeons to visit. It'll probably take a good 2 weeks to a month to complete a good airship, probably longer to build one that can access all areas. By virtue of this, one can assume that all other flying mounts will have a maximum altitude they can reach and unable to reach some areas. Either way, we won't see any of this content until 3.1, which I can only imagine won't be around until August or September.
Actually thinking about this make me realize just how large some of these zones are going to be to pull off the entire airship deal. Like the land space will be almost triple the size of Coerthas for example.
I think people are being extremely optimistic over the nature of this airship thing....
Glass Half Full > Glass Half Empty
I'd rather have an optimistic mindset over it, rather than bash it needlessly when no one has a clue what's going to happen. If it sucks, it'll easily be forgotten until they solve whatever sucks about it. It could be a hit, who knows. It's definitely something out of the norm for an MMO.
Spoiler: show
Apparently I'm a pessimist because it sounded like it would be nothing more than some fluff content much like retainer ventures, not meaningful travel where you find and fight unique monsters. I fully expect you to just send it off with some hired NPCs and they bring back random junk for your FC, maybe some unique buffs or furniture or something silly.
They mentioned being able to board the airship w/ your FC later on though (the same airship you sent on ventures) but they also said FCs would be able to summon Primals so lol
Yoshida: So it’s going to be very major content that will become available throughout the 3.x patch series.Difficulty between CT and Coil - Source: Live Letter XVIII Q8Yoshida: So, this whole idea of Free Company and Free Company crafting as well as the airship, or building an airship is one of the major end game content that the development team is putting a lot of love and effort into.
Yoshida: Players will be able to ride on the airships to explore field areas based on the data they collected when they dispatched the ships.Yoshida: Yes, there will be those kinds of islands, and there will be islands full of NMs you can subdue - we have a lot of ideas in mind.Yoshida: Once you’re able to go out and explore and travel and find those different areas in the sky you may find that some of these areas may have Notorious hardcore monsters that you can’t beat and just end up defeated and having to have to come back. Or you may find that other Free Company have already visited and trashed it and made a mess of it.It's going to be a significant amount of content. I don't think there's any justification to be that cynical.Yoshida: You'll be able to respond to those random elements with battleships that you can create in a future update. Earlier, we said we wanted to develop things like sky battles.
N......Ms.....???!!?!?!?
YEEEESSSSS
also, still no digital CE on amazon, tf
this is me, when I go into coil each week and even though they plan to remove weekly loot lock on t13 next week, don't feel the motivation to grind T10-13 (because everyone else in the static will want things, and pugging those turns will suck) all day every day for a ring that doesn't exist >.>
If it wasn't apparent from the screenshots, based on translating one of the JP articles, it sounds like the Battle of Ishgard is a battle to defend the bridge to Ishgard from the onslaught of dragons, primarily against one giant dragon called Vishap. Aside from being the only way across the Sea of Clouds, the bridge is also apparently a source of power for the magic barrier that protects Ishgard from attacking dragons so the implications of losing the bridge are far greater than just rendering the city inaccessible.
The article also mentions that it looks to be a full party (8 person) battle with various smaller dragon-family monsters along the large one, as well as cannons to utilize during the battle... but I'm guessing they just got that out of the screenshots.

Long has the Holy See relied upon these barriers to shield the city from Dravanian assault, but it did not foresee the brazen attack that would take place at the Gates of Judgement. The outermost layer of protection has been dispelled, allowing the mighty dragon Vishap to land upon the far end of the Steps of Faith. Leading an army of lesser kin, the massive creature is intent on destroying the exposed foundations of the remaining wards. Take up position alongside the Temple Knights, and defend the structure from the ravaging forces of the Horde!
