Honestly you are more likely to die in a car crash getting groceries then you will on a thrill ride at an amusement park.

Hell, this is one of the rarer cases where it was either bad ride management and ahitty design that caused the death instead of a person being stupid and getting themselves killed.

Yeah the local park out here had a famous incident in the 90s where a girl ridding one of the coasters that at the time only had seatbelts tried to switch seats with her friend while it was going up the lift and get yeeted.

Its actually really hard for ride crew to fuck up safety measures this bad on most of these rides now. Most rides that have locking restraints are designed in such a way that you can't initiate them unless every single lap bar is locked in place.

Wouldn't be surprised if it was more like that kid shouldn't have been allowed to operate amusement rides. Far too many Orlando attractions are staffed by the cities youth, even Universal and Disney do the same but at least they have strict safety protocols in places. They also hire the not retard kids while the smaller amusement attractions around town have the kids you don't see in Disney and Universal lol.

If the kid was too big for the ride restraints to safely lock in #1 he shouldn’t be allowed on and #2 the ride should not even have the ability to run if all safety restraints don’t have the green light. There’s multiple points of failure here I think.

Several things failed here. Boarding a ride is a multiple check process. First, make sure the guests can actually fit on the ride and aren't too small. Second, the operators do a check of every harness to make sure it's secure. Third, the ride dispatcher watches all of the above steps before sending the ride on its way and is supposed to be the last step in the process.

Every one of those steps failed, but all of them would be prevented by just saying "no get the fuck out".

CNN had an interview with the kids family and the father said he was 6’5” 340 pounds. His cousin spoke with him by phone just before he got on the ride and he said he was very excited to ride it because he had tried two other rides in the park that night and was denied entry because of his size. Oof.

Looks like an expansion is happening soon for Sun Rail, new tracks for the high speed train will be built connecting Orlando International Airport, Walt Disney World, Universal Studios resort, Sea World resort, and an east/west route along I-4 connecting Orlando and Tampa. Going to be a huge boost for tourists and theme park employees (and hopefully, relieve congestion on I-4). Neat.
