People of color get longer sentences on average than white people for the same crime, which would alone be sufficient to explain some of this effect if they didn't also get convicted more often. These stats are all post-charging, so the most gracious possible explanation is that PoC are less likely to get charged in the less severe cases, but that seems unlikely.

What? No. Even taking away the proportion if population, whites still top the crime charts in terms of raw numbers. If the number of them that went to prison correlated to the numbers charged with felonies, we would see that reflected in the U.S prison populations.

Instead, 39% of the prison population is Black and another 24% is Hispanic. Only 21% of U.S. prisoners are white. The numbers just don't add up unless whites charged with felonies avoid jail time at much higher rates than other ethnicities.

Most of the Hispanic population in prison is "white".

The "white" on the FBI crime stats is not excluding hispanics. There's a whole separate category for "hispanic vs non-hispanic" and the FBI crime stats don't break out a "non-hispanic white" category.

DeSantis has enacted a bill that allows him to govern over Disney World and punish them for being "woke."

The bill requires DeSantis, a Republican, to appoint a five-member board to oversee the government services that the Disney district provides in its sprawling theme park properties in Florida.

“Today the corporate kingdom finally comes to an end,” he said at a bill signing ceremony in Lake Buena Vista. “There’s a new sheriff in town, and accountability will be the order of the day.”

The new law changes the district’s name from the Reedy Creek Improvement District to the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District and subjects it to various layers of state oversight. Board members were previously named through entities controlled by Disney.

It leaves the district and its financial abilities and debt obligations intact, addressing a chief concern of surrounding governments. It also prevents people who have worked with or contracted with a theme park in the past three years from serving on the district’s new governing board.
