I saw, I still like JonTron, and I made this sig before I cared about GamerGate. I don't blame him for not wanting to associate with GG as a comedy channel and there's plenty of proof that his personal feelings are congruous with my own.

do you feel his involvement takes the spotlight away from the grassroots effort put forth by the people in KIA who actually seem like decent individuals? the ones that actually are making it about ethics in video game journalism

I think that's a very long ad hominem. I think it's not my job to police the personal politics of someone who agrees with me on an issue when those politics are irrelevant to said issue. I think I'm not interested in an echo chamber/hugbox.

Yeah I agree completely and I still like JonTron too, but I kind of wish that he had just stayed silent about it and drawn attention to himself with this.

Here's a hitpiece from MSNBC about him. Muscle through their self-righteous smirking and chuckling, the host's struggle to fawn over the guest as hard as she wants to, and the unironic praise that the guest's job is Professional Cherrypicker and their argument boils down to:

Cernovich is a bad guy because:
He fell for the initial media blitz
He thinks sex between willing participants can't be rape
He thinks people who care about men's rights needn't care to support women's rights because people who care about women's rights don't care to support men's rights

I think the anti-GGs are falling over themselves to paint him as the face of GG because they're so used to saying "men's rights" into their echo chamber and guffawing every time it bounces back into their ears. He's not that highly esteemed by GGers, nowhere near somebody like Sargon, Internet Aristocrat, Jason Miller, Ninouh, Milo, Oliver Campbell, TotalBiscuit, CH Sommers, Lizzyf620, Daniel Vavra, Jemma, or Erik Kain.

I wouldn't say he's hijacking the spotlight, I'd say he's more of a sideshow. The average GGer's interest in him stems from the fact that his job as a lawyer puts him in a position where anti-GG's tactics make him rubber and them glue. He's not a figure people would look to for guidance.

Saying that LGBT people are over represented and saying media representation should be proportional are the same thing. What exactly are you using to justify the conjecture that LGBT people are over presented? Over represented by what standard?

Could you run your analogy by me again? You're saying that... me claiming that a group of people who are often left out of media, gaming media in particular since this is the main subject of the thread, is like you claiming that the group of people represented by most gaming media needs to be represented more? That doesn't make any sense. The only way this analogy could make sense is if LGBT people were represented as often as straight people are, but you've yet to prove this is the case.

Let's note i'm not even asking for straight people to be excluded from any stories. So i'm not saying they're over represented because I don't think that if they are 99% of the population they can only exist in 99% of the games. That's nonsensical. Having straight people and LGBT people isn't mutually exclusive. So while you can have more LGBT characters, it doesn't have to mean that there are less straight characters.

I will give you one point: romance, if present in any way at all, was very muted in Maze Runner. There is a hint of a relationship between the protagonist and the girl, but they could always be siblings for all we know at this point in the movie.

It's an illogical leap that saying LGBT is over represented means that I think it should be proportional to population statistics. Especially since I've said the opposite. Of course I'm using population statistics as a measuring stick, but I've said numerous times that it's unnecessary to be proportional. My point all along is that it's nit-picking to say "we need LGBT in a specific movie" when LGBT in media is already over represented, how does that not make sense to you?

Not sure about gaming statistics, but I've noticed quite an LGBT presence in games over the last 5-10 years.

Look the entertainment industry just want to make money and they'll do whatever is necessary to increase profits. When that drive to increase profits negatively effects a certain demographic due to [under/mis]representation then people should complain and try to fix things. I have absolutely no problem with that, it's just that when you come in and complain about a single movie that didn't include an LGBT character, even though by all measures LGBT is increasingly being (over)represented in popular media, you just look a little silly. Like a white guy complaining that there aren't enough white actors in a Tyler Perry movie...

Yes, there are a lot of LGBTQ stuff being talked about in the sense of actors personal lives n' such. But I don't see an overwhelming majority of it being in the actual movies.

Agreed. I wish GoT had a bi or gay character that lasted longer. I can't really complain since dying is pretty common in that series, but it would be nice to have at least one to identify with and not die within the same season.
