GRRM has said that as soon as he becomes predictable he likes to switch it up, so I might would consider a different, maybe not brighter, future for a lot of the cast that is still present. Can we just turn this thread into ASoFaI thread v2? It seems more productive that way

Yes, there are a lot of LGBTQ stuff being talked about in the sense of actors personal lives n' such. But I don't see an overwhelming majority of it being in the actual movies.

Over representation in terms of actual population of LGBT persons. A population of 4-5% is getting far more media support then any other demographic in terms of population. Most major networks have >30% of "LGBT-inclusive primetime hours" as tracked by LGBT groups themselves. Again it's not something I'm against, I just found it funny that someone would complain that a movie doesn't have a gay character, as if that's something that should just be expected. Especially a movie for kids/tweens.

Anyways arguing with someone that thinks "saying that LGBT people are over represented and saying media representation should be proportional are the same thing" is a logical argument is not really productive, nor on topic. It's just so annoyingly stupid though.

You didn't answer my question. actors being gay is not the same thing as characters being gay. Zack Quinto being gay does not make Spock gay. You don't look at Spock being gay. You don't go "oh that's not what he should be doing" when he kisses Uhura (sp ). His gayness means nothing to the film. It is irrelevant in showing people what gays are normally like because he isn't being gay, he is acting like he is straight.

If you have a character you have in mind, and they are going to be straight because of things you have in mind for that character, don't make them gay. I can fucking garuntee you that there are many many many side characters not fully thought out by authors that serve some purpose with little "required for the plot" backstory, that they could make gay.

I honestly don't think a lot of authors are going to be upset if they have some of their characters be gay. I think they flat out just don't think about it. Bringing attention to it may make some authors think about the sexuality of some of their characters when they never really thought about it before.

On a semi-related note, the twitterer featured in this article about GamerGate's activity in trying to combat this sort of shit (operating even before it was known that it was the GNAA) had been a focus of a concentrated effort to get her to stop doing what she does by people posing as GGers and accusing her of "tone policing". She figured out what was going on and announced she wouldn't be reading her mentions anymore, and all the sockpuppets that had been harassing her over the past 24 hours magically vanished in the course of about 20 minutes.

Are you for real? Can you really not drop the chip on your shoulder? GamerGate didn't do anything. These trolls already existed and saw an opportunity to stir shit, they always have and always will use situations like this to stir shit, the only winning move with these people is not to play. Shut down the internet everybody, I guess getting trolled makes you a war criminal and there's no such thing as a responsibility to not feed trolling.

Is there any barrier to entry? No, but @RavingAssfaggot who doesn't give a shit about what the tag represents and only uses it to troll and defame is clearly not representative of the group using the hashtag as a whole.

GamerGaters do tweet a lot at the official Kotaku account—more than any individual journalist or editor. That account has been pummeled with 23,500 tweets since September 1. But that number pales in comparison to the tweets received by Brianna Wu, another female game developer who has spoken out against GamerGate, and Anita Sarkeesian, who has been a vocal critic of sexism in gaming. Sarkeesian has been bombarded with 35,188 tweets since September 1, while Wu has gotten 38,952 in the same time period.

Perhaps, but it's like 5% negative/90% neutral/5% positive. Or in Newsweek's words, "only 5% positive proving it's a hate movement". Also, the author of that article was anti-GG to begin with and tweeted the same "GG are nerds and should be bullied" horseshit that even neutral parties are pissed at Gawker about.

I don't get what point you're trying to prove anyway, of course they're the most tweeted at because they're the most vocally anti-GG. What kind of lunatic is going to complain about Zoe calling us terrorists to Nathan Grayson?

gg vs gawker annoys the S out of me, one writer tweeted a joke about bullying and suddenly it went from "actually its about ethics in game journalism" to "gawker advocates bullying".
