WHO IS OLIVER CAMPBELL
Oliver Campbell is a journalist who used to write for several gaming sites, including Kotaku and The Escapist.
I don't know what Xajii is talking about, he hasn't been backpedaling on what he said, he's been defending his guarantee of anonymity to his source and telling people who jump to conclusions (like Ksandra did) that he's talking about Anita or Zoe to chill out.
I am not jumping to conclusions I put question marks for a reason. I am trying to figure out wtf is going on.
So oliver has a friend in the fbi who is looking into some death threats that might have been sent from the same person? If these are not zoe/anita then how does this relate to gamergate at all?
i am glad the FBI is involved. Now I can rest easy knowing an end is in sight.
story time:
Reddit has a system that certain subforums are "default"; that is, unregistered viewers will see the site as they would if they were subscribed to these subs, and newly registered accounts by default will be. Default subs are generally the most popular ones, but the nominations are ultimately up to Reddit admins and approval is by the mods of that sub. Becoming a default sub means a heavy increase in traffic and activity and a higher profile, but also having to deal with a fair amount of trolls.
A while ago, a feminist subreddit (with over a million subscribers) was asked to become a default subreddit and the mods accepted. All of a sudden, the sub had to deal with uninformed people and differing opinions, and the userbase revolted. Tons of people came forward, claiming that since the sub became default they were being receiving nonstop misogynist harassment by private message.
Admins looked into the complaints of harassment and revealed that in their investigation of the private messages of hundreds of users claiming to be harassed, the vast majority actually never received any. Many created fake accounts both to send themselves death threats and to upvote their claims of harassment. In total, there were less than 5 actual instances of harassment among over a million subscribers to the subreddit.
tl;dr: In SJW circles (and most of the vehement anti-GGers are SJWs), pretending to be harassed is a trick of the trade to discredit your opposition and make yourself famous.
ok ty for clearing that all up. No where did I see that this had anything to do about reddit, so I was all kinds of confused.
Right, he's being factually accurate. He said the FTC was investigating. He's pointing people in the right direction so people who care can file FOIA claims and get off his back about things that could compromise his source.
i remember that. i unsubbed it within hours, the tears were too much.

I don't disagree with you on that last point though, reddit admins are incredibly like moot, in that they're SJWs. Reddit admins mod r/ShitRedditSays/, whose logo is unironically this.
The fact of the matter is that SJWs are always in positions of power, and they're in positions of power because they're SJWs.
If you want to be in a position of power on the internet, and really IRL too, just fake being a SJW.
Or learn math gud.
Any real gamer doesnt give a shit about any of this.
