It's an actual educational package that I assume would be incorporated into curriculum. For what class would this even be appropriate material, though? Are there even that many high schools that would offer gender studies classes where this type of thing might have any remote relevance?

The most damning thing about this package is that it wants to use high school students to put pressure on video game companies using a homework assignment:

Students will express their thoughts by writing a letter to a video game company.

This package represents just about everything I find wrong with modern educational approaches to teaching.

The other thing is that high schoolers aren't really allowed to disagree with things that are taught to them by an authority figure.

I find that whole thing disturbing. There's no open debate. There's no discussion. It's "Here's Anita's works, basing our teachings off them." It's agenda pushing and gives no open discussion about alternate views of other people who are also in the gaming community. It's wanting you to take Anita's arguments as fact. What really gets me however is the ending statements in big bold letters with the phrasing "I believe." That is a very vague opening statement that by it's definition is opinion. Your belief may not be the same belief as somebody else. Why does one person's belief warrant a class curriculum while another person's beliefs are scoffed at or ignored. You could say this is Evolution vs. Creationism, but I'm not gonna go down that road.

Honestly I think this should be better left as a subject in a debate class rather than a class course, even if as an elective. It leaves no open discussion and is a volatile subject matter that should not be taken as fact as part of a course to be taught to the youth.

You aren't alone. People in DARE classes did more drugs than those where weren't in DARE classes.

Next up is the alternate blue archer. If you keep up on gaming news she may seem familiar - her appearance is loosely based on feminist games critic Anita Sarkeesian. Anita’s work has been an inspiration to the TowerFall team. Her “Tropes vs Women in Games” video series gave us a valuable new lens through which to assess our character designs. TowerFall is about bringing people together, so it’s vitally important that the cast of playable characters makes everyone feel invited to join in. Simply put, this wouldn’t have occurred to me if not for Anita, and feedback from players has reinforced how important it really is. So Anita signs off on the design as fine by her. What if some other chick thinks its sexist? Do they fight about it? Does Anita win by default since she's "championing" this movement?

That's part of the problem with this whole thing. One person's opinion is gonna differ from another's.

I care not that they did this, I do kind of find it sad that they had to announce it to everyone to make sure they got some sort of credit for it.

My beefs with Anita is that she comes across as a televangelist. Someone who is "spreading the word" but not proposing any real solutions to the problem. At least, that's what I've gotten from everything so far. She wants everyone else to do the work to fix the problem, she's just presenting the information to the masses.

I've been trying to kind of interpret my own feelings on the matter for a while now and I still can't really explain what it is about her that I don't like.

^ I kind of agree with that sentiment. Even if she's not out to "get rich or die trying" like televangelists, she realizes that she's powerful now. Very powerful in certain circles. She's working that power, but is it for good? Is it truly for the benefit of the masses, like televangelists swear up and down while buying that 3rd mansion?

I was going to make a comment about her seeming to be bow-legged, but that just seems to be the general art style, as other characters exhibit the same weirdness.
