Damn those pregressives and their pesky civil rights, they just boil my privileged blood.

Civil rights for video game characters, right.
Oh, you are "no true scotsmanning" progressives. Got it.
I'm curious. How many posters here have actually gotten online death threats? I don't mean CoD trash talk, I mean an ominous message sitting in your inbox somewhere, or someone using your personal identity/information. I sure as hell never have.
Oh, you mean like Anita getting death threats, which have been proven multiples times to be fabricated, in both the suspected Twitter threats as well as the claims that she contacted SFPD?
Or do you mean Brianna getting death threats so bad that she "had to leave her home"...despite clearly still being in the same home for the past 4 years?
If you fake your own death threats
are they really death threats, or suicide scares?
I was too lazy to make the actual meme, sorry.
Unless you wake up with a horse head next to you, online death threats by angry nerds are fucking pointless. Look at TB and others around his circle, they get them all the time for reviewing games poorly that others like. People will threaten you over every goddamn thing.I'm curious. How many posters here have actually gotten online death threats?
And like Nyn said, half the threats for some of these people came from themselves.
I asked a genuine question about the posters in this thread, not TB or whoever else. Wanna put your dicks away?
Implying your "genuine question" wasnt loaded in any way, shape or form...but lets play. No, we, being Meresgi and myself, have not received any death threats.
Personally, I have not.
Forgive me for asking, but are you trying to make a point about none of us have, and therefore have no understanding what it's like? I'm sorry if a genuine question was mis-interpreted.
I'm not sure if the threats were real or not. There's a chance they weren't. It's the internet, I'm sure theres a possibility that the threats were really created by dumb asses. Do I think these women actually were in danger? It's hard to say. The internet, in my eyes, has always been a place where people are just itching run your mouth and blow off steam. I'm not sure how many online threats are actually acted on.
I ask because I was thinking what my response would be if I ever got a message from someone that said "Your name is X and you live at XXX. I will come and kill you". I concluded that I most definitely would contact the police and leave my house for an indefinite period of time.
I am wondering if there is someone here who has ACTUALLY received something like that, and has decided to act differently than what I would do, and for what reason.
Specifically it seems that his comments on SVU/GG are actually what got him fired. Strong evidence indicates if you look at the timeline of events where he tweets calling gamers subhuman garbage (Gamers, remember, being the core audience for the institution he represents), his boss then makes a comment about subhuman, bobbo tries to backpedal faster than a feminist can scream rape, gets fired anyway. There was a loud clamor on The Escapists forums just before his firing.
What's really telling is his mouthing off after the fact. Nothing like showing everyone your true colors to validate everyone's opinions of you. For those who dont know, after he was let go, he's done almost nothing but mouth off against his former employer. Truly the best way to show future employers that you're a sensible reliable adult is to completely overreact to a situation and behave like a spoiled child.
Probably the same ratio of people who get death threats offline. I'd wager about 1 in 1,000,000 people, basically the only people who would get death threats are those people who put themselves in the public spotlight. The thing that people forget is that people offline get death threats all the time. This has nothing to do with gamers, gaming, game culture, violence in video games, sexism in video games, racism in video games or whatever other bullshit. Death threats are as immemorial as publicity is.
Truthfully, I don't know what I would do. It's so far from the realm of possibility for me, that I'm not really sure how I would react. I'm sure I would contact the police, and I would do what they recommend.
The closest thing that would have put me in a mindset close to this lately was that we had a gunman lock down the entire city after killing 3 RCMP offices and wounding 1 or 2 more. It was very nerve racking thinking that the gunman could be wandering around any area that I may be frequenting on my way to work. It was nothing directed at me personally, but it was a state of fear that I can't say I enjoyed living with.
Why a lot of people are so skeptical of Brianna Wu's threats are that she appeared to announce to them on the internet along with her statement about leaving her house. There has been evidence seen that she may not have had to leave her home what so ever. Wether it's true or not, it's a really shitty experience and I can't imagine having to go through that.
I now know youre from new brunswick
Prepare your anus.
Damn. They were right all along. The patriarchy is real.
Oh, but if they were collaged together in photoshop, then it would be proof. Could you polish your suit of white armor some more kind sir, if it were just a bit brighter, the reflection could actually blind me for life. Are you going to deny the fact that Brianna has clearly never left her house either too? Those pictures looked like they were edited in paint as well.
