    The only game I can think of where that might be true is XI, and I'd still end up objecting to it unless we restricted it to a certain time-frame in the games life.

    (The moonspeak name for rogue is apparently something like twin-swordsman. This class feels like frankenstein to me now.)

    A lance user being called Lancer and a bow user being called Archer doesn't sound any less generic to me. I guess I never bothered to look into all the class names though.

    Unless they decide to add Action Damage Up traits to NIN I don't really see this happening. As to it being called NIN instead of THF, Sneak Attack and Trick Attack are Rogue action abilities and for all intents and purposes Rogue is just THF. The only thing NIN adds is the Ninjutsu, Shunpo Teleport, and Reset/Auto-Crit ability.

    Doesn't change much, it still won't buffer out of animation lag. I've missed silences in t9 many times because "Surely 8 times was enough and it'll definitely go off."

    Idk what you think "buffering" means but unless you're mashing Blunt Arrow at 39.X seconds into it's 40s recast we're not talking about the same thing.

    It's primarily fighting game terminology. To buffer a move means you input the move ahead of time and it comes out automatically when it can. Have you never buffered actions while in animation lag before? You're slightly mistaken in what you think "buffering" means if you think it only applies exclusively to gcd and cooldowns.

    Off-GCDs do have that 0.5s-before-recast buffer too. It took me until like 2 months ago for it to click and I've tried my damnedest to not put anything GCD or oGCD on macro ever since. Off the top of my head the one exception on any job I have is <mo> Cover (for the whopping "never" times I use it) and petaction macros.

    I don't know, they already seem pretty goddamn strong. They have a 15% speed buff (aka GL3) through Huton that I assume will be 100% uptime maintainable, and a permanent 20% damage increase with their poison stances. I mathed out a 35 GCD sample of keeping the slashing debuff up yourself for shits and giggles and got an average WS potency of 236.6. And this is all before considering off-GCDs and traits. At first glance, the numbers seem a touch towards the "way the fuck too high" side, I feel like there has to be a catch somewhere.

    If the "catch" is lower weapon damage a la BRD (or somewhere in between melee weapons and bows) I will be much sad.

    I don't think it will be, but I'm not one to doubt SE's potential for awfulness.

    Okay, really rough and inaccurate math incoming. Take it with a very, very large grain of salt. It is a very skewed look, and only compares GCD skills, not their off-GCDs or autoattacks or buffs or animation delay.

    NIN keeping up Dancing Edge for themself, not clipping dots at all, keeping Huton up fulltime for a 2.1 GCD. Mapped out 35 GCDs, added all potencies and averaged them for 236.6.
    DRG's rotation (2:1 full:chaos, 1 phleb/heavy between each combo) averages out to 249.5.
    MNK rotation (2:1 rawdamage:sideeffect options, ToD every 15th GCD, counting Bootshine as 225 potency because lazy) averages out to 203.6.

    NIN has 20% damage increase, 10% resistance decrease, and 15% speed increase. 236.6 * 1.2 / 0.9 / 0.85 = 371.1 'modified potency'.
    DRG has 15% damage increase, 10% resistance decrease, and no speed increase. 249.5 * 1.15 / 0.9 = 318.8
    MNK has 42% damage increase, 10% resistance decrease, and 15% speed increase. 203.6 * 1.42 / 0.9 / 0.85 = 377.9

    So MNK very likely may still be king in T8-esque fights, but NIN will probably edge out on anything that drops GL more than once a fight.
