What the hell are you even talking about?
If you don't like the direction of a discussion DON'T PARTICIPATE. How is that difficult?
"bring friends"? what? You can't possibly take internet this seriously.
I participated to give a view from the side where the majority throws eggs at. Difficult to not participate when people bash something they have no clue as to what they're talking about or don't even try to see it from the standpoint of the guy who does it. But, kudo's to you for being able to exactly that and feel good about it :D
Seriously, this coming from you has gotta be the biggest joke on the planet. Thanks, bro![]()
Dude, you were offering that side of the story to people who vehemently hate cops though.
As a long time lurker with not many posts, the Political Forum is one of the areas i often frequent, perhaps with my low post count my words won't amount to much but I'd like to reiterate what many in this thread have said in that there doesn't seem to be a need for drastic change when it comes to how this section is handled.
With 20 posts over how many years setting arbitrary post count limits etc would probably hurt members like myself who usually don't have much to contribute to the subject but enjoy many of the links that the more informed will add to a conversation. There are times i may end up learning more about a subject or re-evaluating a view that I may have had after reading through the thread.
The hard truth is that many people will be thin-skinned on subjects they hold particularly close or ones that resonate with RL experiences, this is especially true with subjects like religion, politics, and gender issues and its understandable and expected.
These talks will sometimes get a bit heated depending on the personalities involved and that's okay, or rather it should be as that is generally human nature.
However imagine many of the issues could be solved by a case of slightly tighter moderation to ensure things don't go too far, a simple "Hey Guys Dial it back a bit" more often than not seems like it would do the trick and if not then feel free to toss out warnings/temp bans etc.
Maybe that's just me though and i could be entirely wrong about the whole thing, i just feel it would be a shame to not continue to give this section an honest chance.
Arguing on the internet isn't about persuading participants. It's about supporting, and educating, the undecided, and providing another voice for them to listen to.
You're never going to convince avid posters that their stance on [pick this politically zealotrous topic] is wrong. They aren't going to convince you, most likely. But right now on BG, there are 253 members on line, and 646 guests. There are a LOT more people looking to read than write here. THEY are your audience.
Eh. I say to them (the lurkers who read and not comment) to read my post history, as any of my more detailed responses can be applied to 90% of the circle of events that are redundantly posted and hate-spewed out the symmetrical crack.
Maybe that's what I'll do: copy and paste my responses and dictate the argument that ensues for the user to complete it all in one post. Brilliant!
Reddit has very few serious (political/news) subreddits worth a shit to read, let alone debate on a pissing scale. You'll discover new bullshit everyday that will make you hate how naive you were at first blush. The mods there are absolutely the worst and most dysfunctional shitheads I have ever come across in my internet life since chatrooms existed. It's like Game of Thrones for neckbeards. I do browse reddit occasionally for specific interests, BUT even the most benign subreddit can quickly succumb to a)slow death, b)power-struggle on who gets to moderate, c)manipulation of posts/comments. I'm sure more seasoned redditors can elaborate on this garbage pail culture, but it seems like you've already found your new home anyways. Deuces.
I'm actually shocked you've persisted over the years.Originally Posted by Mazmaz
Either that, or you got ran out because your view is too extreme even for them. Doesn't surprise me, actually. I've been there (reddit) off and on since it's inception and have found it's a lot better than the old days now that they're handing moderator privilege to individual subs. Like I said, stay off the main pages and go deeper in to the boards. It's not for everyone and not for those who're scared.
Scared.... of subreddits... the fuck are you even talking about anymore. If you are tired of feeling like a heel by defending what you consider to be an unpopular position then just go away or stop defending it, you are not chained to your desk and forced to defend your point against anyone, but asking for the section to be nuked is just stupid. I hate 90% of what mazmaz says but i would never want to go to any website where he wouldn't be allowed to say it.
holy shit neph. you better be careful where you take a bath, that much salt is hazardous to the wildlife
You're sorely mistaken. They actually had some mod earlier this year get caught manipulating rankings of fitness articles that were tied to his or an affiliate's blogs. People complained forever and I believe he got away with this for more than a year. That is only a taste of how deep the corruption goes on that site. Let's ignore the more insidious nature of Reddit censorship that everyone basically acknowledges will never change.
What an awesome alternative to our mods, though.
Guy who primarily lurks here, as my interest in XI has dwindled over the years, the poopdeck has remained as one of the few reasons I still visit BG. When any major happenings come about, this place is usually the most informative corner of the internet I browse. If any severe changes occur, I couldn't say that I would still come here as frequently as I do.
Dunno. Maybe the poopdeck is like a drug. I want to leave, but today I keep coming back, like an addict waiting for my next fix for Maz, hey, or Nynja to post something that makes me wanna laugh out loud and shake my head.
Suppose I could learn to lurk and keep my fingers off the keys.
yeah, well, those three are the trifecta of silly posts, so i cant really blame you. i think you just need to take it easy. there's no stakes here. just FFXI/XIV players talkin shit.
