2014 Election Day Thread

Tis election day, y'all.

Most prognosticators predict republicans are going to keep the house and retake the senate, but they also say democrats are poised to take several governorships. Marijuana is once again on the ballot in several states adjusting its various legality. There is also a myriad of state and local issues that are just too numerous to count for here (and I don't know them all).

Also, vote and stuff. Want to get informed? I recommend ballotpedia, though some people also enjoy I side with for easy candidate convenience.

Let the mayhem begin!

We should get a good feel for the night early. If North Carolina and New Hampshire flip red, it's going to be a long ass night for democrats. If dems hold those and flip Georgia, maybe something miraculous happens tonight.

So turns out that both my Monday and Tuesday classes were cancelled for different reasons, which meant I didn't have to send in an absentee ballet, after all. Kind of upset, but it is still a 10 hour drive one-way back to where I'm registered

There are more Democrats than Republicans in NC now, iirc. Repubs have done a very good job of gerrymandering the state to spread out the Democratic vote, though so who knows.

Gonna cast my vote this evening, then settle in for some Farscape with the folks. We think a lot alike so we were just discussing the various referendums and races for our area, and tbh the whole thing pisses me off. I WANT to vote for for a third-party candidate for governor in MN, but the DFL/R race is close enough that I can't run the risk. I wish we could cast ranked votes instead of all or nothing. I would love to give my highest numbers to the people I actually want with the people I'm willing to tolerate being backup.

Usually I rubber stamp judicial appointments but this year I found some questionable ethical behavior by just googling the judges on my sample ballot. I also found out there's a wiki for judges, run by the same guys who made ballotpedia, but I probably don't want that as my only source of info.

California's Ballot props are unusually low-impact this time around.

I can't wait to cast my vote to kick shit ass Tom Corbett out of office, but I'll have to wait till nearly poll closing time to do it. Maybe now when he loses schools will get their funding back so I don't have to send my daughter there with her own toilet paper (yes, her school is so underfunded they can't even afford toilet paper).

Pennsylvania was actually in pretty damn good shape after the 2008 recession, until 2010 when Republicans took control of everything and turned the state into a stinking shithole with no jobs, cut funding for everything except fracking, and expensive everything. I hope to hell they end up losing the state legislature too.
