Voted this morning on my way to work. Only the sixth person to vote at my polling place at about 7:40am. Had a couple of bond measures part of me really wanted to vote yes on but had such idiotic shit tacked onto it, just swung my vote to no.

Voted this morning. Voted Yes on 2 to legalize medicinal marijuana in Florida. Unsure how that's going to go, if young people successfully mobilized then it has a good shot. It's time. Legalize this shit please.

Also voted Yes on "Greenlight Pinellas" to fund light rail system via a 1% sales tax increase which will almost certainly fail. I don't understand why people don't want light rail here, the commutes in Florida are the absolute worst I've ever experienced and light rail (if done right) will get cars off the road and literally benefit everyone even if they don't want to use it. But people are stingy fucks. (And we don't even have state taxes so seriously we should be grateful lol)

Other than that, meh. It's hard to be pro-choice and anti-Obamacare as a voter in a primarily two-party system ... but I feel that we absolutely have to protect a woman's right to personal choice at all costs and so I had to vote against the House candidate who is active in a Pro-Life PAC, even though he's also an opponent of Obamacare. Eh. Voting sucks when there isn't a candidate that really represents how you feel about things.

yeah. there's a guy running for gov. here who not only is running on a legalisation platform but also matches most of my other beliefs. i'd love to vote for him. unfortunately he's 3rd party and the two parties are neck-and-neck. so its either vote DFL (which is generally not too bad but not particularly good either) or risk the republican getting into office and yielding to the tea party asshats.

    pisses me off.

Getting tired of Pandora/Fliers/Pop-ups/whatever telling me to vote Republican (or die tryin') because the Democrats are bankrupting the country.

The one exception is the entire Kansas Republican party wants Brownback out, so they've decided to back Paul Davis (a Democrat).

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

Anyone else in NY look into proposition one? Seems like the state government is creating a fake "independent redistricting" commission to fight off any attempts to call for a real one in 2020. It's pretty bad lol

doesnt paul davis plan to keep the same tax cuts in place that bankrupted your state?

apparently CA would have paid my hubby up to two hours to go vote if he had notified his work like two days ago....lame...at least we know that now for next year.

    No.

Davis wants to freeze tax cuts to raise revenue. It means our taxes go up, corporate tax goes way up, but the education, law, and public sectors don't suffer from crappy funding.

Wash Post / CNN are pegging Republican senate majority at 90%+ while NYT at 75%ish; however, a supermajority for Reps is not going to happen. In short, basically every piece of meaningful legislation, regardless of its merits, is still going to be stonewalled until 2016 because of partisan politics. Not a glorious day for Democrats, but not the end of the world either; generally feel like everyone continues to lose here. I don't identify with either party and vote across party lines depending on the candidate / ballot measure (go Initiative 71!).

It won't get any better in 2016 considering how the Senate elections are set up. Republicans have to defend 25 seats, with roughly half of them in Blue/competitive states that are very vulnerable, so the Dems will probably end up with at least 53-56 seats. Since we all know the House isn't going anywhere until 2020, we are probably fucked for the next 6 years no matter who is President.

thats awesome, its absurd what happened there. i had read a piece, prob a few months old by now, saying that his democratic challenger wanted to keep the tax cuts in place. could have been a different challenger or maybe he changed his mind. idk

I was just about to ask that.

I mean I don't particularly like Hilary, but comparing her on any scale to a genocidal dictator? I don't think so.
