He's easy to beat and has no time window, thus the only thing they could do to artificially extend the amount of time you would have to spend challenging him was to make the drop rate ridiculously low.

GC NPCs are harder to beat and have limited windows when they can be challenged, but the GC leader cards probably have a higher drop rate (I say probably because both drop rates are way too low to even bother trying to ballpark).

Old complaint but now curious: my PC runs this fine, hits like 10x benchmark requirement on high settings, 15x on low, which is how I play, but when I try to run 2 instances everything's choppy as hell.

Pertinent now cause I'm using my friend's old account to wintrade triple triad; is there something I can do to make them run more smoothly?

And what's the best non-crowded place you can duel TT?

Expansion pack vid showing off the new zones making me realize just how much more obvious the terrain texture tiling will become when you're flying from above, and that they've done nothing to try and address it.

I always just assumed the current zones have it blatant in areas because they had to rush an MMO out in two years.

If you look at the ground in some of the flying parts (but also all over the current world) you can see obvious repeating "grids" on the ground. Its super obvious in Mor Dhona for me, but I've noticed it a lot. You know, like a Tiled map or image, you'll see the same bits repeat over and over... which isn't bad its used in a lot of games, but FFXIV's "tiles" are quite... small... so you notice the repeating really easily especially at maximum distance. You can see what he means at about 3:32 of the video

When I look at my front lawn from up here on the second floor, it too suffers from looking like smaller units that are exactly the same.

    Karb pretty much explained it.

It's a pet peeve of mine since MMOs have been abusing it a lot (TERA being a huge offender), and it's very evident once you know how to look for it......and then being unable to see it from there on.

An obvious example here, the road-work in the Thanalan region in general. Spoilered for size. It's plainly obvious where each tile starts and beings on the left (ARR). A better approach would be the right-side (1.0) which distorts the grid itself, some 90 degree rotations of the tile's UV map, and clever texture blending to further hide the fact. FFXI did the same thing as it for the most part.
    Spoiler: show

And don't get me started about the brickwork in the Goblet.

It's kinda ironic that 1.0. did it better than ARR, specifically if you look at the horrendous disaster that was its overall map design.

Not ironic (or surprising) at all considering that 1.0 put graphics above all else.

Point being people want it all to look unique when even in real life we have reoccuring patterns of exactly the same. It's expecting too much for no reason. (That's not to say there aren't exceptions where it's just really really bad.)

......you look at your lawn and see actual identical equally sized repeating patterns?

Either you have a landscaper with some extreme OCD or you don't know what the difference is.

The map design was terrible, yes. Since it was the core XI team that worked on 1.0, their map design workflow (going by the SoA leaked maps) was to copy+paste prefabs to get the environment layout, then later in go with a chisel and adjust the geometry later and add flair and make sections look different. It's just the 1.0 team had no time for that latter bit.

That said, I still want higher resolution environment textures. Still no word on that ever happening outside of select textures getting the tessellation treatment for the DX11 client. The world could have looked a hell lot prettier given they sourced 1.0's own textures for parts of ARR.

Unrelated complaint: Buying shit from NPC tells you how much you spent in the chatlog, but not the Marketboard.

I do remember in XI, I would walk around new areas and point out the bits of them that are recycle old area pieces with a new skin (the tunnel zones are the most obvious). But I also like that I know XI zones well enough to point out similar terrain :X

To be fair, if you look at the 1.0 pathway, you see a path that hasn't been traversed frequently on it looks, while the 2.0 it looks weathered, it looks used broken down and rough which is possibly the image they were going for that. 5 years since the original game took place and all hell broke loose, if the pathways in 5 years time looked the same it would break the immersion. I'm someone who appreciates minor details like that, it maintains a constant feel that the world is showing its age which is unique in its own little way.
