The problem isn't resonance, it's one of the cleave attacks. Hits like a truck (like, you're dead now) on a single target, but is split damage so having both tanks makes it actually survivable.

    That would be resonance <_<

I have always since T11 learning advocated solo-tank in front and offtank only steps in for Resonance, avoiding like 90% of the autoattack cleaves. Once you learn the timing it is really straightforward for P1. P3 you're gonna be tethered some of the time anyways so I never bothered learning until after clear (and learning P3 was fucking awful and static-destroying so I did not want to add another wipe variable). I have a video of timing for P1 dodges I posted 2-3 times lol, can dig it up again if any care.

Also reso timings are somewhat scripted in last phase but you need to see the first move after tethers go out to determine what "path" it is.

Tether > Reso > Missiles > Gas > Head > Reso -- 2 Reso total, first is a "gotcha", "Missiles first" I call after eating reso
    or
    Tether > Gas > Reso > Missiles > (Reso) > Head > Reso -- 3 reso total, Gas first

I'm pretty sure it's that way. (Reso) in the 2nd set is the one that usually sucks, as well as the first in the first.

Ah. I haven't tanked it yet, and didn't really pay attention when learning the fight to learn the names of attacks properly for tanks. I assumed resonance was the big hit component of in the headlights.

We don't even bother having OT run in for reso but that works too. We just find it much more MP efficient (and OT doesnt have to worry about popping defiance or any cooldowns or whatever outside of secondary head) to eat it solo and I've never even come close to dying from it on PLD. When I do it on WAR it feels kinda risky if I don't have IB up (namely final phase) but still totally doable even without OT dipping in for reso. And yeah, that initial reso after tethers is the one that bugs the shit outta me. There's like that weird delay before it happens so you know it's coming but it's too late to pop a cooldown or cast adlo/stoneskin if you weren't just doing it in anticipation regardless. Our LS had an abundance of melee and almost zero ranged players so we started going with whatever we found to be MP efficient (no ballad sux), but I think it's just overall a much better strategy regardless.

Also the tank swap/secondary head attacks are just called Secondary Head and Primary Head. Secondary Head applies the debuff on whoever was tanking and then the OT provokes (during the cast bar) and eats the Primary Head.

I stay in Sword Oath for all of P1 except tank swap, and I swap back after Reso>Head>Reso. No-CD sword oath Reso doesn't hurt for that much split either, though I usually have a Stoneskin up (I put one on myself after tank swap because I need to fill space to oath swap anyways). It's not really necessary to run in to eat, but it makes me feel like I'm doing something because what else do I do on PLD ._.

got bitched at the other day for using Cleric Stance over Protect on SCH in Toto-Rak. am I in the wrong? faster kills > a small amount of defense that won't make any difference at this level. my slots go Cleric Stance > Swiftcast > Protect > whatever else, I never use anything but those three (I don't have Stoneskin).

I know, loldailyroulette drama, but... it annoyed me.

Nah, you're right. They really don't need protect in lowlevel, especially with a SCH.

I might even take Aero over Cleric Stance but people will pitch a fit about anything in those lower levels. If they care that much they can just cross it themselves if PLD or (class).

if they are new players, that mentality doesnt hurt

they prolly will look back and realised they would have done the same after they get more knowledge into the game

I can completely understand the mentality. I used to run Protect all the time until I realized it was pretty much pointless in a low-level dungeon where no one ever comes near death. I'd rather put out them heavy SCH deeps and get us through a little bit faster.

then again the point is moot now that I'm moving on to the higher level roulettes/dungeons/instances, so... yeah.

dude was clueless and anyone who isn't in full CS/nuking mode in low level dungeons is clueless as well

It doesn't really matter, but you can enter the dungeon with protect on your bar, cast it, then switch it out with cleric. It'll reset your cd's and you'll have to wait like 10sec or something to cast physic but eos will keep people alive in the mean time.

Has anyone else been lagging badly in DF? At first I thought it was pingzapper, but it shows green (low 10s) and everything. I use Cox. Made dungeons and stuff pretty unbearable with split second lag every so often.

I'd say protect is necassary for the Toto rak boss. But other wise things die super fast outside of those blobs.

True pros set cleric stance, pop it, then switch it to protect, cast that, then switch it to aero. Cleric stance will stay on but you won't be able to switch out of it.

I would go as far as saying Protect is not needed for anything but the most difficult content lol, unless the healer is severely underhanded where it would actually help overtime (i.e. a new healer).

Any damage that Protect can block (augmented or not by WHM) I can make up for in my Medica/Succor lol

On top of this, as you're a SCH, have fun fielding off some people that insist you Stoneskin everyone before engage for trivial content lol (if no WHM is available. If WHM is available, redirect all fire to the WHM)

Another tip: I find that calmly stating/reassuring the party (especially the anal guy) that they'll be fine and that you're a good healer is sufficient enough to shut them up and move them on, only for me to resume not paying attention and going back to watching TV while Eos solo heals and I hit my 1 button DPS macro.

Depends on the tank but yeah I agree. I just do it out of ocd minmaxing. But you can find some pretty undergeared and inappropriately geared tanks around lvl 15.

The problem with Protect is it scales with defense so if your lv15 tank is that undergeared Protect is even less useful than it would normally be. I'm not advocating not using Protect here and in theory every little bit helps but it doesn't make that big of a difference most of the time (especially on those DPS who run away as soon as the barrier falls and then moan for Protect when I'm on SCH).

If a SCH has to cast any heals in any dungeon before Brayflox then something is wrong.

(makes no difference if you have protect or not)
