Made the following response on one of the primary Reddit threads; was promptly voted to oblivion and told I don't know what homogenize / homogeneity / homogenization mean:

Both the questions and the responses have been terrible thus far. How about asking something related to the extreme homogenization of progression from both a gear and content perspective?

If you take a step back, the progression in this game is a constant rehashing of previous incarnations of content. ARR had Extreme Primals for mid-tier weapons, CT for mid-tier armor, and tomestones / Coil for endgame equipment. HW has the exact same, except replace CT with Alex Normal and Coil with Alex Savage.

On top of that, the gear progression itself is incredibly uniform and frankly boring. It's a straight iLVL creep with minor flexibility between tomestone and Coil/Alex Savage equivalents on secondary stats. Tanks (and healers to a lesser extent) often have a bit more flexibility thanks to melded crafted accessories. I'm not asking for an XI-level of horizontal progression, but it is a very vanilla and uninspired system as it stands currently. I actually miss some of the gear traits from 1.0 sadly, namely enhance "X ability" attributes.

Listen, I'm not saying the game is terrible, but the questions are very friendly and generally do not address some fundamental issues with the current game.

i'm not talking about the Airship stuff now. they've sworn up and down that in later patches we will be able to ride these airships to those zones that we are currently scouting and there will be unique stuff in these zones. whether it's NMs or gathering points or w/e. there is suppose to be playable content to airships.

and they just said new GC Ranks will have some kind of content that's not turn in 100k GC Seals and clear Neverreap.

    This:

Q33. When are you planning to unlock new ranks for Grand Companies?

A33. We’re currently planning Grand Company-related content, so we believe we’ll release new ranks when adding this content. It’s not fun moving into the next rank just by collecting something, so we think it’s good timing to add new types of content when releasing the ranks.

Think you're reading too much into GC rank thing. If its seriously entirely new content I'll shit a brick. I think they're just saying it wont be a "Collect 1 item" thing like some of the old ones, but require you to do stuff from heavensward (like maybe complete certain dungeons!)

As far as the FC Airship stuff is related, I'll wait for it to be released... they have lofty goals for it and I admire that, I only hope they can come through with it. But track record leaves me little faith, so much that I envy yours.

    i didn't say i have faith lol.

hunts is terrible but that wasn't a thing they talked about a lot either and they just did it and unfortunately lots of the playerbase spends lot of time doing it.

my expectation is somewhere around that level kinds of content for the GC thing.

the airship thing i'm a little more hopeful for but if i get any less hopeful i would have to start thinking about quitting the game.

Yah so definitely settle on reskinned content with nothing new. Theres no middle ground to be found here. Move along.

Aside from being just wrong anyway, could you specify? Your statement of "Any new event" makes it seem like you believe every single piece of content added in XI was "Really shit", so I have to imagine you have an example for every piece of content in XI. I'll wait.
Salvage was completely horrible until they added the starter chest a couple months later and lets nottalk about the drop rates, Einherjar was random fuck you in the later stages with horrible key item stuff for everyone to enter odin, zeni nm or whatever it was called had pretty much only useless drops, Dynamis was pretty much boring trash farming for 3hrs straight.
I am sure you found Absolute Virtue really fun right?

Not that I disagree with you, but I'd say the only content that fits the bill is Campaign. Started terribly, then got good with updates, then SE killed skill-ups which made Campaign very barren.

Going back to XIV though, if the devs have any hint of foresight within them, they would realize they can't continue with the way they're doing things. Just adding more levels and adding more zones that are gated behind MSQs will alienate new players faster than any hardcore content would. We're already seeing that issue with everyone complaining how long it takes to get to level 60 with alt jobs and new players being discouraged to get to HW content because of the massively long quest line. The barren new zones have nothing thriving once you finish all the quests, and these are some pretty huge areas.

It's stupid if SE believes they can continue with this incredibly basic vertical progression and continue getting more income off of that. It's why I'll keep harping that they need to revamp their Cross-Class system.

I fully expect there to be a handful of content, Just not "all of the things" as Joyo implied (maybe not meant, but implied with the statement they made). FFXI released content that in itself was mostly new and a enjoyable experience in itself even if more was added later. Sure theres only so many ways you can spin something but all the events I can think of released with mostly positive reception. Nyzul, Salvage, Assaults, Dynamis... I think Sea kinda sucked because it just didnt have enough gear, just a bunch of accessories, capes and necks, capes and necks! But sea never really got better lol so IDK if that could fit the bill.

AV and PW come to mind as well. Perhaps Einherjar because most of the unique abjurations were trash, but I think people came to enjoy that later.

As long as for the lack of a better term "casuals" continue to say it's perfect as is, Yoshi will never change. So as long as people love minions, the same shit spoon fed to you over and over and "muhstory" and are perfetly fine with it, they'll keep doing it.

Since everytime you dare speak against it - "Go back to FFXI"

"This game is designed for casuals, look at wildstar, oh what's that? wildstar failed because they listened to people like you?"

    And so on.

Mentioning XI in any form automatically adds a x10 multiplier to your downvotes.

It is certainly way better than the OF, but it reminds me of Alla karma whoring from XI. Every post on the front page is something aimed at not rocking the boat, a "cute" story about a DF triumph with some hopeless newbs, my fake girlfriend drew my cat man, etc. It is the exact same dynamic on the main Destiny Reddit. Though I will admit I did enjoy this on the XIV Reddit today:

I don't envy WAR when it comes to taking Discoid Perpetual Akh Morn Laser though. That shit's rough even on PLD. I feel like we may want to tank swap for it on Savage. Or split it like (I guess) Bahamut's Claw could theoretically be split.
Yeah for a story mode raid, I found that the tank buster was hitting pretty hard. But i'm under the impression there's a soft enrage before the actual enrage. I just went the Akh Morn route :
    1st tank buster : Stoneskin + rempart
    2nd tank buster : sentinel + convalescence
3rd tank buster : Hallowed Ground

So they're going to let Alex Savage gear be dyeable, but what about the "special plans" they had for Allagan/High Allagan? Why can't I dye the best-looking set (High Allagan Fending) in the game?

I mean, is asking that we have a not-Coil/lolTower endgame even remotely approaching "elitism"? Seriously, if you had three relevant events and casual babby Tower-Alexander "Hard," it'd go a long way I think. Especially if one of the three placed an emphasis on FC-wide participation; there's motherfuckers in my FC that have been here for over a year and I still feel like I don't really know them. Anything approaching "hard" throughout 2.X generally didn't lend itself to a not-consistant roster.

Then again, they can't even "balance" their fucking jobs right, so what would they know about having a wide offering of relevant (and fun) endgame content.

I expect this to go the way of the UI and add-ons. Which is fucking infuriating.

At the same time however, we still have the most basic and fundamental functionality of jobs still being outright ignored after years of complaints and requests for adjustment. So glamors are going to have to take a back seat here, unfortunately. Also probably because it'd make casuals feel left out or something, because they still can't beat Turn 5. Or 9. Or 13.

Yeah you can fling shit at XIs horizontal progression all you want, but at least in XI there was always something to do to progress your gear. XIV can't get past doing your handful of endgame raids a week and then not logging in again till Tuesday. I quit right after 2nd Coil came out but I quite enjoyed the mega fight in T5 once my group got it down. This game is crying out for something along the lines of BCNM battles. Then again Yoshi.P seems to be deathly afraid of RMT so any worthwhile AHable gear is pretty much out of the question.

Heat of Battle/II isn't applying to the final lump sum of EXP from killing the last boss of a dungeon.

I imagine this would be the prime opportunity to go back and allow Allagan and High Allagan gear to be dyeable since casuals should be able to beat the Coils now at level 60 with a 7/8 party.

Still no word from Square Enix gdi. I so badly want High Allagan healer set in blue.

    lol

I tried to help some people do undersize 9; they still cannot do Phase 3 and 4 right. Timed out, closest we got was 4% and that's with me as the last man standing and trying to survive Claws while healing myself with Clemency, and attempting to do Divebombs (or ignore them with HG and Tempered Will).

I mean, they clearly have the ability to dye it already (hello to you amazeballs green High Allagan Coat of Fending). There's no reason not to let us dye it.
