Incoming damage from mobs are lower tho (because of less mobs) when you kill one mob sooner. Less damage = more potential tank/healer dps.
As much as I wanted to pull multiple packs on my tank while leveling to 60, I can't whenever I DF it. Healers that can't heal (even better when they weren't even dpsing!) and dps that single target AoE pulls. #puglyfe
I stopped marking regularly after Haukke Manor, and now I only do it if I want a specific mob killed. I'm pretty lax with focus targeting. Long as BOTH of them are attacking the same thing, I'm fine, because I'm probably rotating through other mobs at the moment, while checking the enmity on the focused mob.
Well every tank should be holding hate regardless (PLD is the only tank that has issues, but only when Sword Oathing), but I mean mathematically speaking it's better to focus down one mob at a time if you don't have the AoE damage. I know marking is generally seen as a lolscrub thing to do but it's RPG 101 to focus down a mob instead of spreading out damage because it is faster. I don't see why people are considering the inferior method the "correct" way to do things.
Except all jobs have aoe damage and multi-dotting is also higher potency per gcd. You're completely wrong in this.
All jobs may not be equal in their AoE capacity (in terms of raw damage or sustainability) but every job will increase their DPS with multiple targets.
You didn't read my post because this is about if you don't have the AoE damage.
If you have the AoE damage then it's obvious I'm wrong because the statement doesn't apply. Spreading out single target damage is a slower fight because tanks have to apply more crowd control per GCD and healers have less time to DPS.
This is not an issue at like level 40+, when all jobs have readily available AoE damage, but before then focused damage is a thing.
There isn't a point where you can run dungeons and don't have AoE damage or multi dot potential, even at lv15.
Here's a parse from Tam-Tara when I did leveling roulette on DRK last night...
See how brutally even in a level 16 dungeon aoe wins out?
Every time I get The Fractal Continuum in DF with a PUG:
- No first time bonus.
- Dreadnought hitting the tank for 1300+ DPS while the party single target everything else.
- Melee DPS getting hit in the face by frontal attacks.
- DPS not focusing on killing that mob that does horrible AoE moves.
- BLM not moving from orange circle because lol Leylines.
- Let's get hit by every single move from that Chimera mob.
- DPS realizing they have AoE moves while only 1 or 2 mobs are left standing.
- People insisting on getting raised while we're standing right next to the respawn shortcut.
- Hey that mine look safe to step on it.
It seems people forgot how to play the game the moment Heavensward came out.
Get out yourself, go grab a book for 4 years old & L2read, never said NIN don't AoE, I said the TP move was a waste of TP. Spamming that brainlessly is bad. Much better to use Ninjutsu in between & rotate DoTs on each mobs.
Here are all the reasons why you mark mobs. Had to redo it with the release of Fractal.
Except that's not even right. smh
My bad for replying I guess, I've seen so many conversations with other people and you and laugh that they even try. Today was my turn I guess.
Alistaire, if whenever you adress someone you start with a phrase that contain "Get the fuck out" well I encourage you strongly to be quiet. and yes, spamming the NIN AoE WS is bad, its not TP efficient on big pulls.
Mutilate is net 360 pot.
Shadow Fang combo is 150+440, or 590/2 = 295/gcd
Aeolian is 150>200>320, or 670/3 = 223.33/gcd
Armor Crush / Dancing Edge obviously less, this is enough for baselines.
Death Blossom is 100 per target hit.
If there are 3 or less mobs, Mutilate them all bare minimum.
If there are more than 4 mobs, just Death Blossom. Is is higher potency per GCD. Potency per TP in the case of pull longevity is another beast but rarely one that matters.
You don't do it "over" Doton or Katon because it is a GCD and they aren't. If it's a pull of 10 mobs Death Blossom is 1000 potency, literally almost 3x better than Mutilate, the highest potency GCD you otherwise have.
