Tbh I'm still impressed at how profoundly dumbshit SE can be, releasing a third melee DPS when the game was already starving to death for tanks and healers.

Well to be fair, we have..
2 Tanks - PLD and WAR
2 Healers - WHM and SCH
3 Ranged DD - BLM, SMN, BRD
3 Melee DD - NIN, MNK, DRG
If we lump all DD together, Its 6, but as separate entities, its pretty even across the board, they're adding a new tank and (suspected?) new healer with Heavensward (may have misheard the healer thing)... and then it will be 3's across the board. Though I guess if we want to lump all DD together, We'll need 4 more tanks and healers to level it out!
Side note! More healer and Tank jobs won't necessarily create more tanks and healers... some people just don't enjoy those roles, no matter what name you slap on them. Perhaps Dark will drawn in a few folk cause people kinda like that job or something... idk.. ff4... but I doubt it will solve any tank drought in endgame, but I'm sure it'll help low level roulettes for a few weeks.
They won't, but people like to claim that they would because that person liked X job when it was tank in Y game. People that don't wanna tank aren't gonna tank regardless of the content. You'd just see more bad tanks because half the Nin tanks would try to play it like a fucking DPS and get blown up.
Ya really. And you gotta consider the fact that most of the people choosing to go NIN were already a DPS before. Shouldn't be that big of a difference.
Eh, regardless of any of that... there'd definitely be more tanks for a while just because its the new toy.
Yea, I'm sure when DRK comes out there will still be a shortage of tanks in low level dungeon Qs.
/eyeroll
In fairness to the relevant issue: no one's getting 30m+ queues for expert DR.
(or do they? I never go anything but tank tbh)
Adding a new tank job will only very temporarily solve the "Low level roulette" DPS queue times, and may not even fix them at all if theres no healing class added at the time, or if the healing class isn't as "hype" as DRK. So its stupid to think more tank jobs will solve the problem for anything more than a few weeks.
What they need to do is make low level dungeons a bit more rewarding for high level players... but thats hard to do without obsoleting higher level duties... but 20 gil a kill isn't getting anyone in there, and the 60 soldiery is barely worth some peoples time to roulette it once a day.
They could add some real nice vanity armor in the form of achievements for completing low level duties when playing a job "In demand" job. That won't solve it forever though... At the end of the day, we either need to encourage more tanks to participate in low level dungeons, or encourage more players to play tanks. (And by extent this argument can apply to healers as well).
Massive understatement, why the hell would anyone do a low level roulette with potentially new/stupid people for 60 sold.
Any expert dungeon gives 50 and while there's no shortage of stupid people in any range most are at least familiar with the dungeons from running them on the reg and the dungeons themselves are a lot more streamlined compared to the low level ones.
Honestly I wish they'd just completely redo the level sync system. I'd run low level dungeons for shitty rewards just fine if my class was fun to play at lower levels. But there's basically 0 fun classes until like, level 40+. I had to run Tam-Tara for my relic book lastnight and all I could do was repeatedly press 121212121212. Wish it was like GW2 where when you level sync down you don't lose any skills, fuck balance and just make it enjoyable, its not like any content below 40 is remotely challenging anyway.
Wanna fix the number of tanks at endgame? Expand the duties that give credit for the mounts to more than just EX primals or coil. They'll literally be everywhere.
< 5 min queues for pretty much everything as a melee DPS on Primal. The only people with long queue times are the stupid ones that don't select all languages, or queue for shit like turn 3.
So I'm doing T6 for welfare gear, as you do. Run into a special-snowflake healer who demands party LOS instead of target LOS, despite everyone else in the party doing target LOS. So he gets targeted and gets everyone eaten. He then proceeds to cite his HA book and an "alt" with Dreadwyrm gear as a reason we should all listen to him. Then he proceeds to dc on the next attempt because people realize bad strategies are bad no matter who calls for them.
Guess he didn't get the memo that 1) only bad players feel the need to flaunt their gear, and 2) if you're so inflexible that you can't adjust your strategy to the party, you're a bad player. Bads will be bad even if they buy/leech wins, I guess.
there isnt just a tank job being introduced
also a "007" job and possibly another DPS job so i expect 3.0 queues to be pretty "fast" first 1 month
007 job is clearly Chemist, start the fight with a knife then Equip Change into the Stone Gun and BAM!, then when someone needs a heal you just toss a powered-up potion in their heads.
I would play that all day ;_;
Part of me wonders if it was an experiment to see how releasing a new job around the midpoint before an expansion affects subs despite queue time worries.
New classes are the 'big' thing of expansions for most folks I know, followed by new areas/level-cap, then end game. So just throwing a job out there willy nilly would have had some impact.
Also fuck iLvl sync on high-lvl ignoring materia outright.
I feel like I need to post about how bad this relic upgrade questline is every time I decide to work on it, so here is todays exciting update. Waiting for a FATE whilst I wait for a dungeon, even when I got a full 4 man group in the DF it took over a full minute for the Accept/Decline window to pop up!
Spoiler: show
