I know someone said it a couple pages back somewhere, but how is it that we still can't filter/customize flying combat text? Turned it off in beta and every once in a while try it out again and it's still awful.![]()

Was probably me, that's been a recurring complaint of mine since launch.
I can't think of any reason why we don't have the option to display -less- shit on screen.
Sort of piggy-backing on the last few pages, but this is one reason why I've been so dissapointed in the most recent interview Q&A's. Unless the questions are pre-screened, I feel like every interviewer asks the same questions every single time:
Will there be job adjustments? Yes.
Tell us about the 24man raid? It won't be as hard as coil, but players will enjoy it.
Will the item level increase? Maybe, we can't say if or how much it may increase.
Instead they should ask real questions like:
What was the decision and testing done behind PLD BRD and AST?
The 24man is placed on odd patch cycles. What are the clear consequences of reversing this or adding them together on a 6 month cycle, with less resource intensive content(Airships, Story and Primals) on a 3 month cycle?
Tell us your vision of item level and how to keep older content relevant.
I mean, I'd love to, but there's really nothing to do outside of Savage for anyone who's currently raiding.
Plus, many of us are barely on for anything but raid and capping esoterics. Me and maybe 1 or 2 others are on regularly, and I'm literally only on because I distract myself with the pointless crafting/gathering grind.
Their appeasement to raiders by making Alexander Savage, or whatever else is the 'top tier' raid at the moment, the only source of BiS gear is, ironically, what's causing that very issue in the first place.I mean, I'd love to, but there's really nothing to do outside of Savage for anyone who's currently raiding.
To quote Wildstar again, it has the same philosophy of making BiS raid only. No crafting (though that provides way too easy BiS outside of raids which is its own issue), no rare mobs, nothing.
End result? The very same people who want to raid have literally nothing worthwhile to do beside cap the weekly currency, which in turn leads to them only logging on to raid, thus making the game a job, thus leading to people quitting.
I think they're trying to fix this with FC airship explorations but unless it provides i210 gear as well in some way, shape, or form, we're gonna be exactly back to the current situation of non-raiders only logging on to cap esos and raiders only logging on for raid night.
Because god forbid they make Extreme Primals, dungeons outside of the daily roulette, PvP, or anything outside of Daily Endgame Four Part Raid or Weekly Hardcapped Tome of Super Amazing Gear relevant at all for gear and provide people with some variety. Granted, this isn't to diminish the achievement of raiders, raids are freaking hard, and they SHOULD have great rewards, but making them the singular source for BiS is making the game stale for the very same people who'd want BiS in the first place.
While I agree, I think the main issue is if they make multiple sources then you can get people who honestly has no reason having BiS gear obtaining them. Well, it would be an issue if the game supported actual content that utilizes BiS gear, but it never will. You can argue "But Alex 4 Savage will need it!"..people are clearing it without BiS pieces..considering said BiS pieces usually drop FROM the content you'd use it for.
Doesn't help 3.1 is a regression patch as well.
There is literally no point to having BiS gear. Having the very best gear means nothing when a patch gives even better gear shortly after through welfare. Same issues are present with the plethora of old content that players no longer touch because it lacks relevancy.
It would be a lot easier on everyone, including developers, if SE provided some staying power on all content. It wouldn't be hard, even if they want to keep up with the carrot-on-a-stick format.
Lets skip ahead to 3.1 and say that the ARR cycle falls true and the only thing airships are good for are upgrade mats for esoterics. Void provides i200 gear, and you're left waiting 3 months for the next raid. And your group will have A4S on farm.
The fact of the matter is, the content in this patch won't be BiS. It is only a matter of time before it becomes out dated and you're on the next gear treadmill hoping RNG drops you something. Look at previous content in terms of glamour. Do you want BLM buttwings from T11? Does the bard want to try to get a High Allagan Gun for his MCH. Or maybe it'd be nice to save up some money by running Moogle Extreme and getting lucky with the kingly whisker so you don't have to worry about drawing gil from your personal pockets to supply food and materia when progressing.
Think horizontally, not vertically. FFXIV has very little to offer in terms of hard end game activities and to hang onto the thread of hope that they'll introduce something harder than coils/alexander/whateverthefuck4.0willbe is a fool's paradise.
Get people who share your mentality of what fun in FFXIV is.
To make my point clear that FFXI =/= FFXIV. Think of what you'd be doing in an HNMLS compared to a raid in FFXIV during... lets say ToAU
You'd want to run Dynamis, Limbus, Salvage, Einherjar twice a week. Occasionally you'd step into Nyzul Isle for a chance at 20/40/60/80/100 gear. You'd have to deal with Sky, Sea, and ToAU NMs that you could pop whenever you wanted. Not to mention BCNMs from tokens you have and various other NMs to hunt down for gear. And all of this had gear that was relevant to someone level75 because you'd swap gear during a fight to stack up on a stat that benefitted you the most.
What do we have in FFXIV? Weekly tome cap and Alexander Savage. You have to do other things otherwise someone in your raid will become burned out and they will leave. Ask if someone wants glamours from a certain fight. Ask if they'd be okay with farming moogle ex for a chance at some gil. Maybe get those titles from SCOB Savage. If you don't want people rotating through whatever static you're in you have to keep them engaged in the static.
Or just play other games and log in to to raid and cap lol.
From experience, that just leads you to forcing yourself to get back on the game out of obligation.
XIV just isn't designed for players with a hardcore mentality.
I'm not talking about Kali. I'm talking about the issue Kali is having around people cycling in and out of him/her raid. If you find 7 other people on your server who'll raid and cap two seperate MMOs on your server my hat is off to you.
@Carth And thus, is the experience hard core MMOers have to face nowadays. Whether its World of Warcraft, Wildstar, Tera, or etc. You progress through a raid. You beat a raid. You farm raid weekly until next raid drops.
Congratulations, welcome to MMO gaming circa 2015.
Yep, the modern MMO to appease people who think putting in a little effort is outdated.
I'm not sure if they read BG but w/e i bitched to them often about that.
What i'm mad about my group atm is how often we change strat just because of one wipe
Exemple A2S we get to wave 8 and wipe because we wern't used to it.
Next try, i fucked up my bars and WAR dies cuz of me. I apologize and DRG is like mmmm since we wipe maybe WAR should put defiance on?
FK NO we got to wave 8 like 8 times, so strat is fine, don't need to change everything just because I fucked up and let the war die on wave 7
urgh
Yeah I got asked to swap to full vit for 2 because the WHM forgot to heal me holding 4 snipers and 2 dolls because he wanted to DPS.
Its not that. Its far from that. Think of how gaming is nowadays. MMOs are a HUGE investment and the production of a video game often requires you to sink money before you can get that money back. (Which is why early access is so fucking popular nowadays).
So if you have a company as huge as... lets say the development team behind Assassin's Creed. Are you going to let them make an MMO on a current IP or make an MMO on an existing IP? On top of that do you want to do something really new and risky, or something that's tried and true. By the way, you're borrowing $200 million dollars to back this game up. if you have any money sense, you'll make a tried and true MMO on an existing IP. It will be completely mediocre, but your studio will make some profit off of it and be able to continue to employ your 500 large development team. Otherwise you and 500 others just lost their job.
I played an MMO back in the day called Darkfall Online. In 2006, it was known as the Duke Nukem of MMORPGs. It looked a little rough, but it was made by a 26 man indie development team that wanted to make an MMO like Ultima Online back in its infancy. Combat worked like Morrowind, first person and you'd swipe your sword and try to parry attacks. The world was HUGE and populated with little enemy camps, harvest-able nodes, dungeons, and neutral NPCs.
And the wilderness was unsafe. You could attack anyone and anything. Loot their corpse and get the armor and blade they worked so hard for. Build cities and siege warfare. In the end it failed. There were many crippling bugs, exploits to be found. PvP was dominated by a small group of people who were able to gather resources faster than anyone else just by rampaging around, looting, and bribery.
I like to say that FFXIV is going to be my second to last MMORPG. Everquest Next (Yes, I'm hoping on Daybreak to bring something. Kill me please) is literally my last hope for an MMO that rekindles the sense of size and exploration. But maybe I'm looking at everything through rose tinted goggles. Everytime I remember the mechanics of FFXI and see videos of combat in that game I want to know why I liked it so much.
They did recycle old content with the introduction of enhanced Primal weapon, but sadly it wasn't great. If only they could give more importance to crafters & give them real quests to obtain an advanced knowledge of lets say "Allagan Armory" then they could chain on that & get the crafter to keep enhancing or desynthing drops from previous raids. Making very good craftable gears with a 5-10 iLv lesser than the current top raid gear while keeping this iLv bs could give some horizontal options while still being in a vertical progression system.
Doing so would bring options & old content recycling.
Making very old gears mats for new gears would do that.
Speaking of A2, fuck the first pull with 4 gobbies and 2 snipersYeah I got asked to swap to full vit for 2 because the WHM forgot to heal me holding 4 snipers and 2 dolls because he wanted to DPS.
Healers ALWAYS let me die when I'm tanking it in pubs, even if I pop HG or Sentinel before hand. They don't seem to understand the concept that the tank is gonna take a huge alpha strike, and that they should probably stop huffing paint and stuffing their face full of mountain dew and doritos for long enough to make sure the tank doesn't die.
(Though usually they just don't heal at all until after every mob has had long enough to personally run up and genderly caress me with their weapons four times)
Like, I'm willing to deal with it I guess. I find the combat fun and the challenges are there. But unless they change the game in the future, I'll probably always complain about the lack of shit to do even if I'm talking to the wall.
Literally any horizontal progression could not hurt. It feels really dumb that, as long as you are level capped, you can unsub until 3.2 then join up and instantly grind points for whatever the new shit is. Maybe they should just stop doing tomestones for gearing and make it all drop from content, and give us content to do? Maybe too crazy. At least the new Relic quest should hopefully give us something grindy to do for a bit.
