Having the win doesn't mean anything anyway as far as skill goes, except that you might know the fight well enough to clear it effectively. It could also mean you tried it ad nauseam until you got lucky, or you got carried, or you bought your win. But I've met enough experienced players over the years with awful habits as a result of never actually understanding their strategies. They just do what others told them to do once upon a time and can't conceive of doing anything differently. Which LOS method the party uses in T6 is an immediate example for me since I've been farming it lately—having the whole party move is a wasteful clusterfuck with less room for error, but people insist on it anyway because they learned it that way even if they can't actually explain why it would be better. Like, they'll LOS the attack just fine, but won't understand why they're really doing it or what the individual steps accomplish in terms of dodging the attack. They just do it because it's The Thing To Do and don't realize it's mechanically almost identical to LOSing a mob casting a spell or an ability with a ground indicator. And don't get me started on "omg why are you attacking during Blighted's cast bar omg why are you attacking during the animation omg how are you not taking damage" because they're at T6 and still don't understand how cast bars work... I'll stop ranting now but y'all should get what I'm on about here.
tl;dr I'd take a completely new smart guy over a dumbass with a clear any day of the week.
Currency reset not being at the same time as Duty Roulette reset.
Usually I would have bumrushed my points last night but because I'm off work this week, I decided to leave it to morning to finish up. So I was immensely fucked off to find out that currency actually resets in the middle of the night rather than at the same time as DR. Which is possibly something I should have known but because I never play FFXIV in that timeframe due to sleeping > going to work, I never did.
Double kicker is that it leaves me enough short from cap that it puts out 120 weapon by 1 more week by like 6 poetics (so I'll just pass the drop to another DPS). But that also means I can't snag a 495 poetics item either in the interim week as that leaves me 1 point short.
Yea the needing clear mentality is frustrating.
I'm that asshole that will join a primal farm party without having my clear because i've trudged through learning parties to the point where I have the fight mechanics down and I feel confident enough that I will make little to no mistakes, and not just do what I've been told. I don't do this with coil though, they dont really have learning parties for current coil turns, thats what statics are, and i cant dedicate that kind of time.
Also had to laugh at the stubborness of people in some shiva parties, "i always go outer C, i need to go outer C or i might screw up" like how hard is it to make yourself move to another position, sometimes shit will go wrong and you need to think how to handle it on the fly. if you know the mechanics this will come as second nature.
Party Move is more room for error than Mark Move. if the Mark is a fool and doesn't move, that's 7 stacks and almost guaranteed wipe. on Party move if the Mark is a fool, that's just 1 stack you can heal through. Party Move is most effective when you have no idea how bad the worse player in the group is.
but yes, most people don't know why they do what they do, they just do it because that's what they were told to do and it worked. but because they don't know why they do it, they have no ability or understanding to adjust.
Honestly, as a healer I can ignore some stuff DD has to do and vice versa so when it's my first time switching jobs I do need to get used to it.
I couldn't be bothered learning the other position's way of dealing with mechanics. I'm too wrapped up in my rotations. When I switch jobs (rarely) I do have to suddenly pay attention to different things.
Going from Ranged DPS to Melee DPS to Healer to Tank, I noticed some fights change quite a bit. Man I never gave a shit about some bosses as a SMN that I just stood at a distance and just did my rotation without looking at the ground. But then I popped on my Ninja and suddenly ALL THE MECHANICS IN MY FACE--WHY ALL THE MECHANICS!!! It's not that I didn't know the mechanics existed, it was just me realizing that I had to actually make efforts to react to them.
T6, never done healer or tank. I don't know how different it would be.
This made learning T8 fucking silly. Literally everyone I asked about it didn't actually have a fucking clue on the fight as a whole, they just knew to hit mine tower X times and then run on the mines when they pop, or to step in dread tower once when it pops, etc. I ended up just DFing it and doing every role to learn the entire fight and why/when you push each tower set rather than just following a guide telling you which to hit on each set. Also probably why the last 5 (yes, 5) PF farm groups for T7 I've joined have all been complete failures. By some miracle the last group actually didn't fuck up voices/shrieks, but the BRDs were both terrible at handling renauds and stacked up and got killed by fireballs, fuck my life.
Folks are too spoiled by having either a program or someone on voice chat just do all the call-outs.
Which is why I don't expect T9 to get cleared via DF unless you won the lottery with folks who know how to check their own debuff bar and follow scripted rotations without handholding.
or they find someone to call stuff
I love Leviathan HM in trial roulette. Every time the party wipes because no one activated the generator.
Also what's with the mouth breathers sending me /tells or /p to say how shit they think the new Coil BLM armour looks? As if I'm meant to care. I think it's awesome.
Now I have a mental image that Ragnarok has a bunch of fashion police running around checking people's appearances and sending them tells.
This patch and its new crafting recipes have just reminded why I stopped selling shit on the marketboards for months. Undercutters everywhere.
