oi less bickering and more complaining about how neverreap sucks!
I actually love Neverreap, you came to the wrong person!
Neverreap can eat a bag of dicks, get it every time. Pretty convinced it's the default dungeon if everyone's queued for ex roulette and not specifically Fractal.
love neverreap
nothing more fun than hearing your friends rage over voip after the tornadoes hit them for the 4th time in a row.
Everyone's 51+, levelling roulette figured nah, time for some Toto-rak.
So did my first run of Alex 1 Savage with my FC group. I'm already seeing some big issues that are gonna hurt our progression.
Biggest issue outright is the fact that our FC is full of PLDs and that translates to our group having two PLD tanks. Lower raid DPS overall and the lack of a WAR makes it painfully obvious how little of a margin of error we have. Fortunately we have a NIN to apply the slashing debuff.
Next issue is us barely reaching the required dps. During Faust I kept beating myself up for being the weakest dps with benchmarking at ~970 as MCH while everyone else was above 1k, only to remember that I haven't filtered out adds and then realize our SMN is significantly weaker than me by roughly 100 dps, making him even with our DPS PLD.
However, what is probably going to be our biggest issue is our WHM. He has a nasty noob habit of starting the fight with Medica II casted on everyone. I told him he shouldn't need Medica II at the start of the fight, but he explained he doesn't cast Medica II for all of us but to stack regens on our main tank because our SCH is doing dps. I wanted to insist he shouldn't need it but decided against it, and instead we worked around it by the NIN casting Shadewalker/Smokebomb at the start of the fight.
Despite this we managed to down Faust by the skin of our teeth with 1/8 members remaining by the end of the fight, and learning the Oppressor actually wasn't bad. However our WHM is really crumbling under the pressure of Hyperthermal Missile and Gunnery Pod, to the point where he had to stop after our first 90 minute run because he got a headache. I'm not really here to bash our WHM, love him to death as a person. But I feel while our first two issues can be fixed with time, the issue I see with our WHM might be too much of a detriment.
To summarize, this is our first run in savage and I'm already feeling things are looking bleak. I may just be overreacting since it isn't BG though.
Precasting medica II is not necessary at all. For the first 50% or so, incoming damage is very much solo-able. I typically stop DPSing as sch at 45-50%, because that's when the big hits start coming too fast for one person.
Is your scholar putting up adlo and e4e before the fight? if not, have him do that and tell the whm that will make up the difference.
also, i know them bleak feels. my static is half replacements right now.
As "nooby" as precasting Medica 2 is, if the tank isn't losing hate it just makes it an MP efficient cure. Week 1 when we had an AST with ridiculous MP issues we always precasted an Aspected Helios simply because it was free and covered the first gunnery pod. If you start optimizing a bit and wind up having the MT tank without his tank stance (doesn't sound like you will, lol) on pull you'll most likely need to get out of the habit, but it's not really an issue until then. Either way all the problems you have are things that should stop being an issue with some time, if the group as a whole wants to push for more progression and him wanting to call it early due to headaches or whatever is a recurring problem then you definitely need to have a talk with him though. Your group all has to be on the same page and if his attitude doesn't line up with everyone else there'll be problems down the line. Some people just aren't cut out for bashing their head against a fight for progression and if he isn't he shouldn't hold back the group for it. But on the other hand if your group is happy to just take it casually and chip away at it slowly then it shouldn't be a problem at all unless the guy is incapable of learning.
He does both before pull. So far I have no issues with our SCH as he's pretty top notch.
As a player who used to be a career WHM it always irritates me when other WHMs spam Medica II because they frankly shouldn't need to unless they're trying to dps as much as possible, which won't happen in Savage and our WHM dislikes going dps anyway. The Medica II problem was present before Savage but it wasn't obvious to me until Ravana EX when our tank kept losing hate at the start of the fight vs Seeing Left/Right. Likely wouldn't be an issue if our resident PLD tank ran with more STR regularly, which is possible because he does carry the accessories, but he has a heavy preference for turtle tanking.
The tank doesn't lose hate vs Faust, but it becomes harder for him to push out dps because he has to keep using Flash vs the adds, and it got to the point where Flash wasn't enough to pull hate off an add and he had to start shield lobbing. Again this is also a turtle tank problem, but if push comes to shove I may just suggest that everyone except the tank should cancel the medica regen on pull.
I forgot to mention this before but I've pretty much been designated the raid leader for savage since I'm the one that looked into it the most. I do plan on talking to our WHM to see what happened last night so he can vent out what went wrong. I did notice while the rest of us were enjoying ourselves he was very quiet, and it may just be that his nerves got out of control. I don't think healers have had such an intense heal check in previous content.
Some stupid bug has made me stuck on a gathering node, unable to move, perform any actions, target anything else, or log off while doing favors. Fucking shit
ctrl alt delete, end program. or, if ps3, turn it off.
Main tank on faust isn't there to push DPS. He's there to tank while the rest of the party pushes DPS. Any DPS they CAN get out is nice, but loose adds are going to kill your DPS far more than having the MT shield lobbing stuff. OT is there to push DPS and take faust as soon as he kills MT, buying the rest of the dps a little bit more time.
And yeah, a1s is kind of ridiculous for healers. When we started working on it, my co-healer and I couldn't believe how much damage was coming in. Just insane amounts. Before our tanks really worked out when to use cooldowns we were burning through their entire (vit build, but at a lower ilvl) HP pool twice over every few seconds, and then you have the same thing with Preys, plus huge raid damage in rocket pods.... it's an intense fight to heal.
OK lesson learned. Got in library with an i170 tank(I am i186), who, and I might add the first tank to ever have issues holding aggro from me, was losing aggro so easily, that I was forced into the ARR rotation, as well as "throttling". Yes time for QS. Bard here I come for some lovin'.
^ Even though I tank faust without Grit, around 4-5 stacks I tend to plop it on just for the damage mitigation since by then my CDs would be already down. Since the PLD tanks the adds next to it abyssal drain definitely helps take some healing edge off for the big hits..kinda wish I had dreadspikes from XI though.
Leveling WHM in Aery lastnight I had a string of awful tanks. We're talking slowly crawling towards each mob pack as they mark them all and then not even keeping hate on the one they mark "1". Ignoring the sleeping dragons instead of just... grabbing them and killing them with the babies, all sorts of awful shit. The runs were still easy/fast enough (with me and my MNK friend just ending up tanking most things) so I didn't make a fuss of it, but at one point when we get to the Diresaur he stops and engages just the... other dinosaur thing (what the fuck are these called?) alone, I throw my DoTs on it and then grab the Diresaur from around the corner and this happens:
That's the entirety of the party chat from start to finish of the dungeon. Like if he had a bunch of things on him and I pulled another big pack at once, sure, but this was grabbing one fucking mob when he was only fighting one thing. To his credit though he was maintaining a whopping 200 DPS throughout the dungeon, much better than the PLD I got the next run:
Spoiler: show
Fuck leveling with randos.
How the shit do you hold hate with 100dps.
Flash. Flash Everywhere.
I think holding hate was the last thing on his mind, shit was bouncing all over the place constantly. He wasn't even spamming Flash, but there might have been a lot of random melee range Shield Lobs though!
He also just made things spin around in circles constantly, I was just cracking up at my MNK friend getting mad at it on TS.
This shit triggered me so hard. I can tolerate a lot of bad play from tanks but pissing away TP uselessly on Lob is the worst.
What I loved most was when tanks geared to the fucking teeth would still spam Lob/Hawk 10 times on Garuda farm while she was invincible during Aerial Blast. I know it's just Garuda but shit.
I still get annoyed when people think Lobbing every trash pull is somehow superior to facepull Flash/Overpower/emoFlash.
