Definitely not just a lost in queue thing, it was like this all day yesterday and all morning so far today.
Not a big deal, have plenty of other shit to do irl while queue'd but just annoying to have it change overnight so drastically.
Very hard to start/hold conversation with anyone in the game lately.. not counting those people forever in TS and PSN party.
^ Clique Fantasy XIV: A Static Reborn
I've noticed. And I know it's only going to get worse.
That's online gaming for ya nowadays.
Back when we had AIM and YIM and all that useless bullshit it was far more of a pain in the ass to talk to friends. Now there's skype, computers in general have more than enough ram to easily alt tab, steam overlay, games offer a million and one convinences and ways to talk to friends, and the structure doesn't encourage going out to make new ones or talk to the ones you have.
People might have hated the old system of dungeons, but they encouraged people to talk, simply because of what a pain in the ass it was to get a group together. Also it was all on the same server, so you knew you could make friends with the people when the dungeon was over, unlike now, where the odds are super low you'll both make a new friend and they'll be on your server. The price of a convenient MMO experience is the death of said forced social mingling.
It's also that since the very beginning they have insisted that 8 is the number of people for which the most difficult or any reasonably challenging fights will be designed for. No flexibility. 4 is casualmode dungeons, 24 is casualmode raids. They have never, ever budged on this stance. Not in making 4, 24, 16, or any non-4/8 number in between. It has created a really hard divide between interconnected groups of players and especially makes establishing a FC for tangible in-game group activities an exercise in frustration.
I mean fucks sake, even back when premade PvP was sort of a thing (2 parties of up to 8 queueing for hopefully the same instance of Frontline), you had no reason to do it "as a FC" because A) stupid fucking GC restrictions and B) why FC when linkshell or even PF does it just as well? Voice comms was basically it, and I guess PvP FC buffs.
DF is also to blame for sure. But it didn't have to be. Cross-server friends should have been a thing. /tells in instances should have been a thing. Instead DF is just... shit that doesn't ever matter. It's just a cesspool of mediocrity because everybody knows there are no real consequences and people who take a hard "no" stance on their mediocrity don't matter and/or are rare.
It's why I think a lot of people are looking forward to the floating islands airship hunt whateverthing. It's either the nail in the coffin or a ray of hope for the possibility of meaningful content designed for a flexible amount of people. But in all likelihood I'm expecting it to be grindy as fuck, too easy, not rewarding enough for the effort, or any/all of the above.
I'm surprised someone hasn't made a bingo board for the airship thing.
I think they gave the "Its hard to make" excuse a longtime ago regarding the cross server FL, and the /tell in instance was to avoid RMT? I don't remember, but its true that while ARR was a good step forward, they decided to drop things that would have made the game alot better, from XI or even 1.0.
As for the Island, its possible that it could arrive under the form of something unexpected, didn't they say we would have to unlock more of its map or something?
They can't do list based inventories!
Except when you're repairing, melding, glamouring, desynthing, reducing, using the armoire, or buying or selling items from an NPC.
jfc, the 1.0 side-slide menu interface was far better designed for controller use and 1.0 was never even on consoles.
To be fair, 1.X was just about as useless with the mouse as XI was.
Im curious to know what people want out of FC islands. HNMs? Titan Extreme style open fights? 24man mobs with your FC? Mats to pop bigger mobs for more mats to make AH tier gear under Savage pieces?
A reason to log in and do stuff.
Preferably fun stuff.
Also something that's been annoying the fuck out of me lately: Drag'n'drop from equipped/armory to inventory not working the first 4-5 times.
Can't remember, is there a "send to armory" right click option?
Treasure Maps +1.
As in, an activity that you CAN bring more or less than just 8 people (semi-instanced or open-world), but +1 in that it is somehow fun, challenging, and/or rewarding. I secretly hope for more but this would be a start and in my opinion is already a pretty high expectation.
It could be as simple as "instanced hunts with a shitty reward system" and at least it might be semi-interesting. Lot of hunt mobs that had mechanics you never really see when 500 people are spamming 123 on it.
What I want is a nice, horizontal progression style reasonably grindable event that I can do with FC and friends more than once a week.
What I expect is a horribly put together fuckmess of hunts and random FoV augments that will be an absolute headache to participate in due to competition and poorly skilled players that will feel wholly unrewarding for the time invested.
