Oh, I fucking understand. When I pop a DF Expert I'll either just do a basic rotation as DRG (No buffs, except for the one that lets me use Wheeling Thrust and Fang and Claw) or I'll just sit there and heal on AST.

This is why I always wanted to do dungeons on BLM pre-3.0. F2 F2 F2 Flare stuff Flare stuff oh time to move on? Only had like one fucking cooldown and trying to figure out if my other DPS/BLM was dumb as bricks or not wasn't worth the effort of trying to sync up with them.

For what little I did of 3.0 Expert, SMN wasn't too bad either but I kept fucking up and ending up with not-3 Aethertrails when I'm out of Aetherflows. Maining PLD for 4 patches will rot your brain like that.

I don't really mind expert with randoms on SMN because I can carry the run no matter how bad the other dps from the other dps/tank/healer is as long as the tank at least holds the mobs and stays alive. On NIN when I go with randoms I always end up with a party of a tank who pulls everything, but the other dps has brain damage and the healer isn't nuking, so I end up going through all my TP and the mobs are barely half dead. At least on NIN I can keep bosses on the sub-300 dps tanks...

This advice applies to pretty much all classes in the DF. It's been a very long time since I've been positively wow'd by any random player found in the DF and unfortunately it's all too common that I mentally facepalm myself for what I see in the DF.

Normally though I can just do my stuff and be done with it without getting an aneurysm, except for yesterday when I did my daily leveling roulette. Ofcourse as a lv53 smn I get totorak, which is just low enough to not even get Bane (fml). Since I'm trying to get used to manually using my pets, I use Obey. Unfortunately I had one of those plant things targetted and I had forgotten that Obey is also a command to attack (like sic), so off goes garuda-egi like a good little pet. Immediatly the tank stops moving and doing anything, whatever I could solo that stuff anyway. Maybe he was setting skills, I don't know. The rest of the run goes fine anyway until we get just before the first boss where there is a room with 3 small diremites. When we got to that room I saw nothing and had forgotten there was any trash in there and ran straight into them. Same thing happens again, the tank stops doing anything and just stands there while I have everything on me. I still don't die because it's totorak and I'm on smn but for some reason it annoys the hell out of me that I'm stuck with a princess tank when all he had to do was just flash once to get everything back.

Here I probably make the biggest mistake because I actually talked (outside of "hi") and told the tank to not throw his toys out of the pram because someone accidently pulls some trash. He tells me I'm a puller (for pulling 2 packs, on accident?). I tell him it was on accident even explaining why my garuda-egi pulled earlier. He tells me to learn my class (or learn how to play, I forgot). I think at that point you could probably see a vein pop up in my forehead. The fuck does a tank that half the time can't even keep aggro on a group, plays stop and go on every trash pack and can't even handle a single accidental body pull have the audacity to tell me how to learn to play? I was about to go stoneage on his ass but managed to at least hold back somewhat because the thought popped up that I might be in a fc group. This especially got apparent when the other dps started to agree with the tank. At the last boss, I don't even remember what for incoherent dribble I was spouting. The tank was about to say something after the boss died but I left before I would actually get an aneurysm.

Just to make sure, I checked whether or not the entire group was from the same fc and found out I was correct (and they were thankfully not on my server). I suppose I dodged a bullet considering I didn't get kicked from the group at least. And all of that just because some tank(s) out there can't handle a single frickin pull that isn't initiated by them (be damned if it was an accident or not). I don't know why but even remembering it still pisses me off a day later.

I try to at least go with someone from my fc so I know that I have at least one competent player with me. Lately I haven't been parsing expert dungeons at all (I know roughly where my dps is) and it feels much more relaxed now. Yeah sure I'll see that drg/mnk/nin go single target on a 6+ mob pull but at least I won't see him do less dps then my lol-pld does (on those packs).

On a different note: Same Karinastar from PhoenixOrder in ffxi? If so, long time no see Didn't know you played ffxiv.

I guess it's because the behaviour is irrational.

Check out how I bent a tank out of shape for not casting stoneskin (and the 2 page arguement that followed)

Not going to agree with him because a little communication on his/your part could have changed the thing in your situation (when it happen to me I nicely say "Please don't run ahead/pull") I alway get 2 type of answers: 1) I'm sorry, was a misplay / 2) STFU and tank!

The misplay is acceptable, but one thing you will find hard to believe is the ratio: 8 time on 10 its reply #2, in most cases its a BRD/BLM/SCH/WHM/SMN running ahead & pulling for me, because I stoped for a micro second to ensure my unleash toped each mobs, and when you ask them nicely not to do it again you're met with some hostile reply when the whole thing was just unnecessary.

I wont dismiss the fact there are princesses tank over there, cause there are but alot of us also take shits for free and its growing tiring overtime, to the point where some/lots? of us just forget a misplay can happen & we go salty when it happen.

I will never forget my 1st dungeons back in sept-oct 2013 where I was learning the ropes as a new MRD/WAR, the amount of shits I took from people due to beginner mistakes (to be fair I was learning!) I have only tanked since then and I know how things works, yet often I end up with people who try to make me go their way and when it happen I ensure to create party wipe fest because communication again, ask me nicely and I will do my best to acommodate your request, force my hand? Get lost! :D

Accidental pulls I've done always make me sweat a bit ._.

Ah the glory of playing BLM in DF is, I know how good I am, and wow people often because the amount of good BLMs in DF is very low. Oh. My. God. WHEN I DO play with another BLM that is good, the run goes by REALLY FAST.

Every story like this makes me glad my DF experiences are largely positive (and I do a LOT of DF so I have no idea how I keep getting lucky). DF DPS are by far the worst, and I blame the game design itself for that. It never even once attempts to encourage people picking up DPS classes to learn what they need to know to be good at their class.
At least the tank quests make a half-assed effort to show you your hate tools and the healer quests pretty much require you to DPS, which might tip you off that it's okay to DPS in party situations too. But DPS classes get nothing that so much as hints at rotations or numbers, which are the basic bread and butter of the class type.

When I first started XIV, coming off of being a good player in XI I thought "how hard could XIV be?" and only later did I realize how much I fucking sucked on SMN. You CAN NOT be a good SMN (or [insert dps class here]) unless you look outside the game at what you're essentially supposed to be doing with the class. Anyone who is just picking up the game casually and pressing buttons willy-nilly does not have a very good chance at pulling their weight in a party, and there are certainly a lot of people who feel they shouldn't have to do what basically amounts to homework just to play a game.

XIV sorely needs a better class tutorial system. The job quests are mostly story and they just don't cut it as a teaching tool. I imagine that a lot of these shitty people we find in DF would be at least a little better if they were led by the hand even once through what a proper DPS rotation is supposed to look like.

No offense, but when people say they need outside guides to learn how to play jobs I can't help but think they're just kinda stupid.

When 2.0 launched and I had 7 jobs at level 50 that I had essentially never played before it didn't take me more than 15 mins each to figure out the basic rotations of pretty much all of them. All it takes is sitting down, reading skill/trait descriptions, and some 3rd grade arithmetic.

There were no guides (no one else had played any of these jobs either) and lo and behold 6 months later when people started writing them they were basically the exact same thing I (and a lot of other people) had figured out the first week of the game's release.

If it's so easy to figure out how to be a good DPS then a lot more people should be better at it than they are.

A lot of people are stupid and/or don't give a fuck and just want to press buttons, see flashies, and get a pat on the head.

Back when AK was actually being run on a regular basis, I had a WHM who ran out of MP and pulled hate constantly. They were only casting Medica for heals because it was pretty.

Either an option to scale down the size of the effect itself (Rage of Halone basically blinds you if your camera is remotely near your character), or a transparency slider so I can have the pizzazz but also see what the fuck is going on. Make one for enemy attacks also.

Indeed, too many effects in the game are blinding and you have to choose between seeing them or seeing fucking anything else.

Playing with a BLM at 60 is just ridiculous if you don't turn off party effects with F4 and B4.

@guide stuff: At least they are there and there is people actively looking for them/learning from them. I came here for crafting guides and such. Might appear to be stupid but at least some people don't want to play stupid lol.

I think that's another reason I liked 1.x's more "grounded" animations. Saurian strike aside, it seemed more stylized than BAM SUNGLASSES NEEDED.

I want to believe that most people are wilfully lazy as opposed to actually being too stupid or inept to play their jobs properly. Not on my worse days does it feel difficult to press a couple combos, dots and buffs in the correct order. It's a bit like counting 1-2-3.

I can't tell if the servers are taking a shit today or what but I'm constantly getting my skills cancelled mid-way thru the animations and it's getting really goddamn annoying.
