    Hard? No.

Miserable to play? Yes. Tornados, a boss with evasion, obnoxious ass pick-up totem gimmick, a boss with multiple decently sizable jump periods, evasion boss has those jump periods but at least you can kill the adds to keep up GL or whatever, uninteresting bosses, a kind of somewhat generic terrain type we've seen before, and nothing really super interesting. Just obnoxious gimmicks and goddamn tornadoes.
exactly, it's never been about wiping for me, since 95% of the time, i grab at least 1 if not 2 friends to do it and we'll carry whoever we get from DF.

some fights are just not fun to repeat. Sastasha HM last boss being the worse of the 2.x era.

    Don't forget Pharos 1st boss!

If DPS is too high, and DPS ignores adds, they'll rapidly overwhelm you when they chain-give you that debuff which makes you chain explode!

They should have left Pharos alone as the first skill block.

Actually that's my new idea. Go back to 3 dungeons. 2 faceroll, 1 extreme. Make the extreme like original pharos, good players can plow through it, bad players will rage quit or get better.

SE needs to find a way to make the playerbase better. It can't be faceroll and savage.

Until a majority of the top quits and leaves the rising players coming into a ghost town and then quitting themselves due to a perceived "empty world", SE doesn't "need" to do anything. White knights and starry-eyed newbies eat this shit up and pretend Savage doesn't exist, and they're what matters.

The problem with this is that the playerbase needs to facestomp the people who can't even 1>2>3, or 1>4>5 properly at a minimum and think they're amazing. You can't even tell players who can't get the most basic of the basic shit down that they suck without being called elitist or toxic. FFXI was great with that because it was either "get good, or don't win" on everything. Even getting to an XP camp required knowing how to not die getting there.

The best way to enjoy FFXIV is with a close group of friends. XI was great because of what Ragnus stated, you either got good or you didn't even reach level75.

In XIV a summoner can hit 60 without using bane. A WAR/PLD/DRK only need to use their most basic combos. Healers just need to mash 1 or 2 as necessary. Or a MNK not even manage their combo.

The sad thing is the story is there for people to get through. And the real checks don't happen until you reach the Extreme trials.

I don't know what XI you were playing, but being 75 didn't mean shit. There were plenty of shitters at 75. Groups of 18 players who would take the full enrage timer on Fafnir or end up dying in my days, that's pretty shit. You then have players using hecatomb gear to build TP or just other retarded gear sets in general. BG had a dedicated section for shitters and I could find daily people to throw in that section.

XIV tends to put you in a situation where you end up pugging more then you do in XI with most players. FC aren't as together as the community you had in XI. When you're pugging more frequently, you will end up seeing more bads because you're mixing with a larger portion of the community.

Yes yes wrong gearsets and so on so forth - It's more that in XI you couldn't get away with the shit you could in XIV because the community mattered more. I think the point was more, the grind aside..you wouldn't have lasted to even level 75 let alone do end-game in that era if you stayed shit. The only times people made exceptions were BRD and RDM because not a lot wanted to play them. There were bad people at 75, bad people at 99, especially post Abyssea where you can sit on your ass and burn to 99 from 30, but the "right of passage" so to speak was much higher and obvious in XI.

(Insert counteragrument but but things just took more time in XI blah blah blah.)

Whereas in XIV..you can be shit and the game still caters to you...more specifically yoshi keeps catering to them. If the community in XIV mattered more, you can be guaranteed there will be situations where people "wisen up" to the issues and actually start wanting changes or not care and keep being shit because "It's my $14 a month!"

I almost drove to a friend's house one night during a Testomony farm to break my foot off in his ass. We were helping a friend get another White Mage Testimony due to losing to Maat and it finally dropped after like four hours. Everyone passed super fast, he didn't notice, and did a troll lot expecting to pass right after. He beat the White Mage and got the Testimony. Luckily another dropped within another hour.

The ToAU kind. I never bothered fully with Sea, dabbled very little in Sky, got to see Proto-Omega once. Never fought Bahamut v2. Never really did Salvage (Wasn't in with the right people in my LS when I was most active. I did eventually leave that LS).z

I got captain rank. Floor 100 in Nyzul. Saw through the end of the stories and god knows what else. I don't know how i played so long without getting anything worthwhile out of Dynamis, Sky, Sea, etc...

Then again the 3 times I did Dynamis were the most boring times of my life.

Just being a level75 body got you into a lot of things. Hell you didn't need to be 75 for Sky. (I cleared 18-man ark angels as a 68 WHM/32 BLM. Hella gimped.

Most fights in FFXI didn't take more than one try outside of Chains of Promathia. XI wasn't hard, but fuck if you had to bash your face into a lot of things to get better gear.

It's less about how difficult the game was or how difficult getting to cap was etc, it's much more about:

There was no faceroll PUG DF bullshit, if you wanted to get something done you had to make a group, which meant the people in the group had to not suck balls because otherwise they wouldn't be invited again.

DF and relative anonymity not only does fuck all for fostering a community or making friends but it lets shit players only have to make the absolute minimum amount of effort to get carried by the rest of the group.

No incentive to get better, and no way to get feedback on what they're doing wrong because most people in DF would rather just get the shit over with than teach some dumbass how to play their job after 60 goddamn levels.

SE dropped the git good with Savage and I got exactly what I wanted in Hardcore content. How am I not being catered to? They raised the bar in A3S. Bad players are getting stuck on A3S. If it wasn't for the sac strat in A4S it would be even more difficult. SE catered to the real Hardcore with how they made Savage and the mid core players are upset because they don't get a free raid tier clear like in FCoB. For the HC players are wanting more of this level of content.

If you have an organized group that is attempting Savage and still can't beat after all these weeks of Eso gear then you're bad and the 3.0 raid content isn't catered to you. Now if you're implying that in 3.1 content is being catered towards bads then of course it is. They're the majority of the game, why would SE create content that the majority of your players wont be able to do.

    ^ This.

Everyone knew the good and bad players on the server. If someone tried to join your shell with a Ridill that you never heard of you immediate tried to figure out their back story and what server they were from.

The best thing FFXI did was non-static content. Solo to 18 man events with no limits in between. Hell you could bring 18 into Salvage which was a 6-7 man event. That alone really opened the game up to a community. Friends would tag along just for fun or if someone didn't show up you went on without them. There was very little being left out or one person ruining an event which made the experience better for everyone.

This is the death of FFXIV. Good players need a static schedule in a static group.

Our MNK didn't show up last night for Raid, sure we got to PUG A1-2 but now what? Do we kick the MNK and pray for another, do we let him dictate our raid? My group has 6 members that could clear A3-4 and raid 3-5 nights a week. Filling the last two spots has been a nightmare and has completely crapped out all of us.
