Or Ballad battle where he basically uses primals that in turn use their ultimates. How challenging and original!

Of course they'll waste him like that. Why would they make a unique trial that isn't obsolete on launch or offers junk for us, and won't see an extreme version for six months?

At least they nipped any hopes of going to the Far East in the bud this time I guess.

Oh wow, that's really cool. I never thought to look into the textures after watching that cutscene.

Based on that pic we can infer that Eorzean mapmakers really suck at their jobs.

The other continents aren't even that far.

its never been clear to me, since they both kinda look the same: is eorzea the largeish island off the coast of that middle continent, or is that vylbrand, with eorzea being the middle continent? the impression i had from 1.0 was that it's the former, and vylbrand is just obscured by clouds/too small to see.

Eorzea is the middle continent in that pic. But really, the devs can claim ignorance to that texture since only part of Eorzea + that southern land are actually visible in the game itself.

They should have just baked the blackness into the texture itself rather than having the game do it honestly

Vylbrand is the large island to the west of the continent which is where Limsa is located. The continent itself is called Aldenard and both the island and the continent make up the region called Eorzea. And for reference, this terrible shop:

Perhaps they should go the FFXI route and use the handwavy "The Archduke is...indisposed" route, but alter dialogue for those who finished the missions.

They're already doing this with the majority of job quests and other stuff.
And I'm pretty sure Yoshida simply said that new expansions won't be gated behind the MSQ but will offer a recap of the story instead.

I always assumed the disappearance of the Isle of Val was a nod to FFV where most locations simply vanish and are transferred into the Rift. If this is the case it could easily become part of the Void Ark raids or maybe a dungeon we get to explore in the Main Scenario now that Krile is finally showing up.

Garlemald's to the far NE of Eorzea no?

Never paid much attention to ARR's lore (because a lot of it isn't presented well) and I missed out on most of 1.0's.

Garlemald is the NE chunk of land with all the clouds over it on the map (looks like it might be a peninsula but we can't see all of it).

The larger globe texture makes it look like it might be connected to the continent to the east (still obscured by clouds tho so can't see).

We're never clear where Garlemald is. Garlemald proper is supposedly a tiny city-state; but Islabard (the continent which houses Garlemald, and the first to fall to the Empire) is NE like Niiro says, yeah. It should be connected to Othard (the eastern continent) too, like Niiro points out.

They're already doing this with the majority of job quests and other stuff.

I'm a much bigger fan of Alberic lamenting Estinien turning into a dragon in the DRG quests post 3.0 than getting a cutscene with a random Arthawarn (sp?) Society member b/c I killed the Archduke. (He even says something like it falls to me to do shit since Estinien has succumbed to Nidhogg. Then again, now that I think of it, it works for immediately post 2.0 too, but you need 2.55 to start new job quests)

I've seen a theory around that the FFXIV world map is based around Final Fantasy Tactics.

The Eorzean Landmass looks very similiar to Lionel continent.

Decide to level up whm. Never played a healer in any mmo. Thought I'd like to see it from healer pov. Didn't realise how bad low level DF is with tanks

Out of all the tanks, only one was using CDs and able to keep aggro off everyone else. Others would only spam maim/riot blade combo on single target, no flash/overpower, no tomahawk/shield lob and defo no CDs. None responded to messages in chat

I hope these were bots and not real people

Dungeon bots are like that, but there's also plenty of tanks like that who are actual players. It gets harder to tell.
