I can't wait for the shitshow that will be Wolves Den in 3.2 if they actually end up using the Verminion matchmaking system.
Just kidding, not like anyone PVPs.

I love the posts on Reddit about this tourney making it seem like XIV has some intense complicated Meta that only the elite know about, and that XIV's PvP is the best thing ever for hardcore PvPers. Lulz
War/Smn/Smn/Astro vs War/Smn/Smn/Astro
It's Mahvel baby!
i haven't read the reddit thread but there's some truth to what you're saying. there's some certain team comps in 4v4 that are really tough to beat and good teams need to know how to adjust to a really precise level if you want a chance to win.
as far as it being fun, you either like it or you don't. but if you like it i'd say combat is pretty well done and enjoyable when you play with experienced players who know what they're doing, much like any other competitive game.
^. THough it'd be WAR SMN DRG AST since you can't double up on classes anymore. Playing a team comp that isn't the single glaringly superior team comp != "complicated meta" either, it = being a special snowflake who thinks they're better than the curve* and in reality will probably get stomped more times than they win.
*I use the term "curve" loosely considering I doubt more than 200 individuals have even entered Wolves' Den in the last 365 days.
Everytime some 400 dps mofo says "I play this game for FUN!", I want to use their skull as shit box for my cat...
one thing to keep in mind is what those guys are doing is at 50 cap, so the skills are dramatically different.
anyway, pld can stun lock and has a huge amount of utility whereas war burst can be solved, smn is beastly but can be cured through with a great healer, you can't play 2x ranged or 2x melee so no double smn, and ast lacks throughput and can be choked out of MP in a longer fight. just a few reasons off top of my head why it's not exactly as simple as it seems.
that's not how it works though. what goes on in pve doesn't even closely resemble what works in pvp. war is disgusting in pve but in a 60 WD environment it'd be far closer, and i might even go so far as to say pld > drk > war just thinking of certain situations. it really all depends on your team comp vs their team comp and how each team is approaching each other.
it sounds like you want to simplify it because it seems easier to generalize and put people down than to perhaps entertain the thought that there might be some depth to it. but there is and you can't often look at what's on paper and translate that to what works and what doesn't. paper theory doesn't mean shit.
I have over 1,000 Wolves' Den matches, I don't need paper. Wolves' Den is a horribly balanced mess of a game mode no matter how badly you want to white knight it. It will get even worse in 3.2 when the cap is boosted to 60. There's a reason so few people have been retained in XIV's PvP.
so you should know that A. there's no 60 cap yet and B. you can't just pick top theoretical classes and win. or how about C. in that war isn't even one of those top classes?
it's not as simple as you make it out to be and if you think it is i'd invite you to play against actual good players who know what they're doing.
I'm beyond interested to know how you could possibly think PLD and DRK are better than WAR for PvP. The only class I'd consider fitting into the top end bracket that I haven't listed already is MNK, and they have to be extremely skilled to pull it off well. Maybe BRD, but I've yet to see one who has blown my skirt up in small team skirmishes.
You're giving this system way more depth than exists, to me it seems like you're just trying to make it appear like it's more complex and that there's some super secret fraternity of high tier PvPers, when in reality it's a shallow half baked attempt at including PvP in an MMO.
I'd have figure Wolves Den optimal arrangement would be WAR AST DRG BLM. Swiftcast Sleep 2 is nothing to scoff at and also acts as a means of burning the other team's Purify early. (maybe even PLD inplace of WAR for Stunlock, but then you lose a little burst)

queues are still broken im so surprised
Personally I just found this as PR talk rather than the fact that there's honestly very little reason to run the content in 3.1/3.0 that is actually DF related, since current content is done through a pseudo DF (Derpadem) and pre-made (Savage.)
Queues for everything but roulette seem to be working as it should be..kind of.
(09:44|Merged(7)) Raid DPS:5150 | SMN: 989 | YOU(DRG): 985 | MCH: 884 | (SMN #2): 753 | (PLD): 572 | (WAR): 570 | (SCH): 202 | Limit: 118 | (WHM): 77 |
Another day another no clear on Thordan and this is the best I can get.
How the fuck does a PLD MT do more DPS than the fucking WAR.
I don't fucking know. Because Square Enix does the DPS bar so high that when it comes time for raid-level shit in XIV the healers go "I have to do WHAT now!?"
Bad enough nobody respects the PFer anymore. So it says clear (Have experience to enrage) and they join when they haven't even gotten past Ultimate so when they see phase 7 for the first time (Because standing between the healer and tank is ezpz and you're likely to get carried past conviction towers) they get fucking annihilated or if they just get the rage mechanic they can't figure out how to dodge AoEs.
This is the first difficult fight I've done as a DPS and it blows me away how people can't get the basics down. I really wish I had just stuck to WHM or SCH instead of hopping on DRG.
