There isn't a social aspect at all unless you know whoever has the house next to yours, and even then it's a stretch, maybe if you're into role playing.

Wards are literally ghost towns, you might see someone once in a while but for the most part there's hardly anyone there at any given time because there's nothing to do in there. I had a house for almost a year and only saw a FC mate that got a house next to mine, I've never seen any other neighbors... ever.

Which is why I'm so annoyed as to why SE doesn't make them instanced.

You are correct in that its a major role playing facet. I'm on Balmung and the wards are nearly always populated with lots of players. But Balmung is the unofficial role play server so, correlation.

The best social aspect is when you see the same two people at the nearest convenient MB over and over. Because that's the only one.

I see the same thing in Ul'Dah every day on my server. We have our MB-using regulars at certain cities.
I'm in agreement - there's no social aspect to it.

I'd hate to be in the group where you roll a 98 and lose to a 99. That has happened to so many people... including me.

Statics are a pain in the hole

I don't think raiding is worth the drama sometimes. It's not even good drama. Just immaturity

It really depends on the kind of group you end up with. I enjoyed mine immensely and the core of us stuck together from T5 to A2S until we just lost interest / broke. I wouldn't have such fond memories of a lot of the encounters if it wasn't with my static. First Titan EX attempt we all freak the fuck out hysterically when the first Geocrush area shows up, still the highlight of my playtime alongside our T5/9/13 first clears. Nobody really bossed anyone around or got super offended at being called out and we didn't care about world/server/whatever first, just set modest goals like "beat tier before the next patch" and "beastly DPS" and met it for Binding/Second/Final so we were all pretty happy. IIRC we basically never had problems meeting a DPS check, most of us just derped on mechanics.

I wholly admit it's not the norm though. I've never had a "bad" experience with a static because I only ever had to go with one (1 CoP static in XI, 1 HNMLS until I quit, 1 XIV static). So while I can sympathize and guess that the problem boils down to clashing egos and easily lit tempers, I can't really say that isn't typical I guess? I mostly got into those good groups by association for what it's worth. I knew someone already in it from a more casual circle and got invited eventually.

But yeah, the drama is never really all that good/exciting. I think the worst that we ever got was our PLD ragequit the game on T9 learning because of blowing him up with Ravensbeak explosion too much or something? And some loot drama because he couldn't decide on a secondary job while simultaneously complaining he got the least loot. XIV drama is like office drama.

I will say it doesn't help that a huge majority of the "good" playerbase is usually all spoken for, quit, or (rarely) has such a shitty personality that nobody wants to take them. What you're left with is people who just generically suck, people who suck and are oblivious, or people who suck and can't take criticism. None of which form a very productive group especially when now you basically need all 8/8 to be on board with mechanics instead of like 5-6/8 with 1-3 carries in Coil. There are a handful of "off the radar heroes", we picked up more than a few as replacements in our static, but it's definitely not the norm.

My RL friend told me about 3 people from his static dropped and asked me if I wanted to tank. I reluctantly said yes, but in the end decided fuck yes because I would love the challenge of Nidhogg Ex. They are still on Midas 2 Savage, but would be happy to be able to play with a good friend again and clear some of the more difficult content.

I had that in wow. 6 years with same group. Minimum drama and lots of hysterical deaths.

    A3s kill your group?

I wish it did, we didn't make any progress in it. My PC blowing the fuck up did us in, and I didn't really have the time/money/effort to replace it at the time. Chain reaction where we didn't really want to replace members anymore plus we were all getting burned out, so it was just a good time to stop.

Well since I have no FC anymore since I quit the one I was with 3 weeks in due to being dead constantly I pretty much have to rely on DF. And I don't really trust DFs.

I don't and have never considered FCs to mean anything in this game other than extra storage, FC buffs, and I guess brand recognition / house. And I think a lot of people feel the same. Our static wasn't even in the same FC together in the beginning. Our T5 learning group was basically just a pug that kept practicing together. Our last core guy had only been with us for like a week and of course the first weapon drop was for him. We only formed up later on to put a name behind our group instead of just "X's group". Even then we had reps from other FCs so it wasn't like we were exclusively FC-based.

I understand that "static" and "FC" are basically interchangeable terms to people with neither though.

I suppose, but yeah when your only means is DF, you're kind of fucked on content that requires any coordination.

No, they removed the Mhachi Matter from VA and put it in Weeping City instead.
