It would be pretty awesome though if they started a project that was sort of an open source kind of thing, where players/volunteers could rebuild XI on the XIV platform. Would never have a chance even, but that sure would be something.
I think it's ridiculous that we can't have the best of both. I don't understand what the big fucking deal is with having varied content and not centering it completely around some mechanic heavy boss. What's the difference between mid and hardcore groups spending 2-3 hours a night wiping to savage runs instead of spending 2-3 hours a night in an endgame raid/zone inspired by XI? I would rather spend time traveling, gathering, unlocking or popping shit in a huge zone like the Diadam than banging my head against the wall sitting in a small arena doing the same jump rope mechanics and failing because 1-2 people in our group either can't do the mechanics or can't DPS.

I think there's room for both and Yoshi in some small way I guess is doing something about it but I was incredibly disappointed when I found out Diadem is basically a mob grind until a chest drops with a high tier boss. There was nothing to figure out, there were no real surprises or alternate DoW/DoM objectives just grind away until the timer runs out. Is it really that big of a deal to have some sort of endgame content that is as complicated or in depth as some of XI's?

Honestly Yoshida's reasoning sounds like a load of BS to not experiment or try something different. I can agree with the not having the time for something on XI's scale, but I'm not asking for that. I'm asking for the MMO to feel like an MMO.

Yeah Burningthought thanks for sharing your.... burning thoughts...

I mean ultimately the thing to keep in mind, is that YoshiP is not a FFXI guy, nor was he ever, and he was never trying to make a FFXI sequel. He was salvaging a game that was a disaster into what we have now.

And honestly? As much as I know people here love their FFXI, YoshiP saw a tremendous amount of success with his model of vertical progression and emphasis on instances and tiers and stuff. He was incredibly successful at what he was doing, so there's probably not a real reason to look back at FFXI's success because him directing FFXIV has produced greater critical and financial acclaim.

He probably looks at FFXI to see what kind of artistic things would be cool, or what kind of nostalgia trips he could appeal to, but he's not interested in making that game. And with MMOs... you can't afford to appeal to niche, you have to appeal to a huge audience and keep a variety of players happy, which they've probably done a good job of so far, but there's still plenty to criticize.

I love the gameplay of FFXIV, dungeon crawling, I don't mind it at all, but in order for me to enjoy the experience of any MMO.. everyone else has to enjoy it too. And unfortunately, not a lot of people enjoy this game - I can tell by the way people play, and the social structure of this game has always been the game's weak point, where in an MMO it should not be. Indeed as Yoshi pointed out before.. he didn't design this game with long term play in mind, which is stupid.

I think I've totally gotten over FFXI. It used to be that every few months I would log in, but I haven't logged in now for 2 years. I don't even think about my 12 year old character that much(wow and my reg code is still the original..back when FFXI was a much of white discs. Oh wow can you believe you could own a character that is OLDER than most children??!). That's not to say that the game's legacy is to be forgotten, oh no. I still have found memories of dunes, and taken down my first gods, and failing to clear Dynamis-Xarcabard , before all the updates. Yeah can't forget those.

This is what i'm not understanding and this point gets brought up in a lot of communities on the same topic. Why couldn't something like Dynamis/Salvage/Sky/Sea be adapted for XIV for a wider audience? It doesn't have to require a full FC/LS or farming pop items ahead of time, or super difficult fights gating the content. It doesn't have to have super strong gear that drops with special effects. It can be designed around 30-60-90 minutes of game time and have the same time versus reward as the rest of the content.

You may not see much bitching and moaning on it right now with 3.4 just coming out, but endgame is stagnant. I understand why YoshiP wants to play it safe but I can't see myself fate/dungeon grinding another 5-10 levels for the new expansion just to do the same shit with a different coat of paint. Who is seriously looking forward to another patch with 2 dungeons, 1 either 8-man raid or 24 man raid, 1 primal, and a set of miscellaneous sidequests?

@Corrderio Not much of a MMO when you can really only do stuff with 8 of your friends no matter how many people you have in your FC or LS.

Edit: Sorry if i'm irking people with my ranting. This has been annoying me for a while.

So... why exactly is Sophia Ex called "Ex"? 14 deaths during the first clear and no problem recovering. Does she even have an enrage?

Yes. When she does Equilibrium, everyone's color will be white(from what I've seen) and then she does her raid aoe move(no slowcast warning).

Do skill activations seem slightly laggy to anyone else? Things feel a little sluggish in dungeons on brd, kinda like they undid whatever happened last patch that made activations go quicker and fitting double buffs in a gcd.

I would put this in a different way. Why are there so many assumptions that it would never work? Why is there an assumption that the general audience only wants short burst content? The reality is that people want things that they didn't know they wanted. We should have both short and long term content. WoW's relics and mythic + dungeons are pretty much form to this idea.

I don't know if I'm lazy, but I either need a teleport option to your GC's Barracks, or a means of handling Squadron stuff outside of that room. Wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to do three training missions every day before sending them on a 16hr adventure.

So the last two days have been the first few days of serious playing in about 2 months and things are a bit different. Tanks are doing BIGGER pulls especially in that saint dungeon where they try to pull every single thing that isn't walled off. Lots of these have been close calls, I mean damn. Though I got a good chuckle out of the one tank that ran into the wall, and seemed as if they were waiting for it to drop so they can keep going. I guess its to be expected though, everyone, except me lol, is i240+.

that depends on the DPS. I dont get the tanks that pull millions of mobs when they saw on the first pull that DPS is shit. Too manymobs and no tank cool downs and Ican kiss my SCH DPSing goodbye.

You'd be happy to know that I haven't had tanks pull like that since coming back and I did about 10+ runs.

See that wont bother me. Unlike other healers, I don't get bored. The act of healing garners excitement. I am generally fine with hugeassmungus pulls, it is just that the success is largely dependent on me not making a single error. When it happens, I have to explain myself(well I don't have to, but I think it makes things a little assuring). That shit don't feel good. I'm not the only healer tanks play with. Some of them has these people on edge.

When I reinstalled the game on my laptop, since the PSU on my desktop died, of course the launcher locked my account, and I was using an email I no longer had access to at the time. Had some fun with SE on that one. Then came the maintenance + long ass 3 hour download of the game.

Anyhow, to ruin my evening, queue'd for a dungeon yesterday. Don't know how long the 2 DPS waited, but they popped into the window around the 15 min mark for me. Some 10 minutes later, tank finally joins.

We get into the dungeon and the tank is like "i gtg, kick me please".

Could have just left - no penalty would have been given, I think. But it burned me to wait that long only for the one that does'nt have issues with queue time to seemingly bail because it's not the dungeon they wanted. It was LCoA(hard) btw.

PLD BiS: Once again you need a Dip for shield and A12S sword.

Tome items are only Shield,Head,Ring,Wrist,Ear (and sword just to get the BiS shield)

Alex: Body, Legs, Hands, Feet, Neck, Ring - so super lucky RNG (shared pool with other tank) or tons of books are needed.

They still haven't fixed 90002 crash in PvP when you shoulder tackle someone mounted.

I've tolerated it for the last two years because I can log back in right away. But today some chucklefuck decided to votekick me from an 8v8v8 Seize during the fifteen seconds I wasn't online - and this is while Storm controlled three tomeliths simultaneously. And people wonder why Flames suck so much ass.
