To me, the main point of raiding has been part status symbol, part "I got this ilvl when other had to wait to get this ilvl because they're bad/can't complete the content I can." The design ethic of the game has always been to let the casual plebs catch up after the hardcore raiders get their 3 months "headstart". I get that this is a bigger middle finger than usual but it's pretty whatever in the grand scheme of things. There's nothing to really use those 280 weapons on if you were in a position to really get outraged by them, imo.
Yoshida did say this version of Diadem will be related to how Eureka is designed.
So.....
Free max ilvl weapons (for that patch) and armor? I know the casual players are happy though. I don't think the shock value is that it's obsoleted it's the fact they literally released the step of relic not too long ago to boost it to the usual "alternate to raid weapon" and the Diadem revamp went from glorified hunts to glorified fate + hunt..like....
I know people love to say us "negative folks" throw salt towards Stormsblood but if literally nothing is changing...lol
Did anyone actually think Diadem would be good this time around? lol
Maybe in 4.x they'll find a way make Diadem fun.
the sheer stupidity of releasing a RNG BiS, no matter how rare, right after wrapping up anima. I can't even.
Yeah it's not that I had 'hope' it's more...
They not only delayed it because of a "bug" (and it still has bugs) but..it's supposed to be the precursor for Eureka in 4.x....
I mean, it's fun in a sense that it's something to do..but yet I had more fun in XI with Dynamis/Einherjar/Limbus and it's largely the same kill shit design with objectives.
This is really stupid to me. I was catching up on my relic and now have to question if that light farming time is just better spent in diadem hoping for a lucky break.
Funny since I offhand mentioned 270 diadem gear to a friend and he immediately said that was ridiculous.
I was seriously 3.55 BiS for a day. Pretty funny since I was all excited I would be BiS until the expansion. lol silly me

If you're in the light farming phase I would still do it. Getting an emergency mission seems rare, and on top of that getting an i280 weapon seems even more rare.
Diadem is worth doing just for the loot alone. You get tomestones (Lore/Scripture), accessories that you can get alt jobs for, glamour, and materia. The i280 weapon is more like a cherry on top.
Again, the entire point of this new Diadem was revamping the thing, and coming up with something good enough to reuse in the future. This doesn't feel good enough.
Not only has it been almost half a year since Alexander weapons came out, they were already outclassed by relics, and in some cases, for a while. I think it's still a stupid decision to replace raid weapons with easier content, but I don't understand the salt over this particular part in regards to Diadem, as Diadem isn't the content that obsoleted them.
Back in 3.1 Diadem was definitely worth the salt in regards to raid rewards being replaced: they were actually BIS, they took way more time and effort to get, and Diadem was added a lot closer to the raid's release. This time around I'm honestly barely phased by the actual reward obsolescence, all things considered.
Diadem 2.0 being shit is definitely the #1 reason to be salty. I don't mind the endless ilevel chase or I would've quit years ago, but I most definitely do mind when the next step of said chase is literal bullshit, and that's happened too often this expansion for my liking.
Low effort tweet/image I just made... but appropiate lol:

I think you copy pasted the wrong url.
Indeed RNG is RNG, but at the end of the day, the fact the 280 weapon has +3 or so more weapon/magic damage is a "big deal", so you'd be set either way going into SB 4 months from now (I doubt itll release in june.)
I'm a warrior though, so I don't think I'll use Minos Lux over my Sharpened Blood Axe. I realize I'm thinking wrong about this. I realize this isn't a weapon I strictly need or something I ought to spend time farming, but this still is just something that gets under my skin. It would be fine for this to be a 270 or a 275 weapon. It's fine to not ratchet up the item level to get people into content.
I guess I can at least be glad that DPS high score people are having their realities shattered over this.
