Finally downloaded and start doing potd on my lv1 Archer, twice in a row on last floor we wipe with the boss at sub 3%. Finally cleared it a little while after but damn, what a waste. Spamming 1-10 was the better choice.

"And so for odd numbers patched, where cap for item level doesn't change, we will implement 1 new instance dungeon. We do have reasons for doing it this way, first off, we have a ton of instanced dungeons already - 49!"

I'll take 'Stupid things said by Yoshi-P' for $400 Alex.

If this was damage control, it did the very opposite.

If they - somehow - have shifted to focusing on open-world content rather than implementing more dungeons that people will play a couple times and then never queue for again, I'd be fine with that.

I mean, with the number of ways to get tomestones right now, running dungeons isn't always the preferred method for many people anymore. I was capping my tomestones through WT, hunts and just regular weekly stuff without running dungeons. I think I've done Baelsar's Wall a grand total of twice, and the other dungeons I missed while I had quit only once or twice as well.

The problem the game will pretty much always have is that only one piece of content matters for the most part for 6-7 months. Everything else is just fluff you need to grind to power up a weapon.

Exactly. Which is why I thought his justification was bullshit: "You already have 49, and people don't run roulette as often on odd number patches." If you really think that adding two dungeons every patch is such a burden to your dev team, use the assets you already have and scale up lower content for proper hard modes.

His justification was that people don't do dungeons as much, especially during the odd patches. So rather than give us 2 new dungeons they're going to spend that time and money on a brand new type of content that will take one of those dungeons place.

Is that really so bad? I personally don't give two shits about dungeons after I've done them once, so I'm ecstatic that they want to spend more time developing new ideas

It's his assumption that tomestones are the reason why people aren't running roulette as much on odd number patches, when there could be other reasons...like being bored as shit from only having two dungeons to run at current ilvls.

He's right though. Tomestones are the main draw of Expert roulette.

The thing is, by the time odd patches roll out active players should be capped on tomestone rewards for at least their main job, and raiders should be near/at max ilevel on multiple jobs. Even if you're new, returning to the game, played incredibly casually, or want to gear more jobs... you're better off focusing on other content such as the 24man, POTD, and no-lockout normal mode over Expert because those things allow you to double dip on direct rewards and tomestones.

There's simply very little reason to bother with Expert roulette in odd patches.

Then they should diversify dungeon incentives away from only being tomestones. Look at Wondrous Tales for example. They took content that people weren't running, and added incentive to revisit them. There are other ways to go about the problem without just saying "Meh, fuck it."

I mean that's the intent they're going with. Hopefully taking away dev time from another dungeon and placing it towards whatever content they intend on releasing will make that content better. Dungeons never made for exciting content in FFXIV so I really couldn't care less. =/

Even when they were releasing three dungeons a patch, Expert was still pretty lackluster. Especially since the game's RNG tended to have you stuck in the long-ass dungeon forever, but even outside of that there's only so many ways to make running the same instance thirty times fun.

That said, I'm a little worried that the left hand won't know what the right hand's doing here. It'll be *really* miserable if they make fun content with good rewards, and then put a Light-like stage for the Relic again that depends on running dungeons only.

Running dungeons has been crap for the main tome for quite some time now.

They are good eye candy but dungeons are very shallow beyond that.

Gamer Escape: We’ve been dealing with the Ascians for a long time now… are we ever going to get an ending to that story arc? Or is that the story of Final Fantasy XIV that will maybe conclude with an end of service?

Yoshida: We haven’t actually clearly decided on how we’ll bring a resolution to the Ascian arc. I don’t think we need to hold it until the end of service however. Having the arc for them end and finding out about Zodiark or the secret behind Hydaelyn or who the Warrior of Light actually is… even if we did reveal all that and have closure, it’s still not the end of the story. We can always make more expansions, maybe we’ll go to Vana’diel or something like that- “Return to Vana’diel” (laughs)
    The tease. The fucking tease.

Should make the Ascians and Ziliart the same race.

Ascians are descendants of the Zilart, and FFXI and FFXIV are in the same universe, except they're thousands of years apart and on different planets.

I would be so happy to go back to Vanadiel, especialy Adoulin Area and Zitah, that would be great.

He is joking around with that idea but maybe one day he will realise how genius of an idea this could be.
