FFXIV Random Complaint Thread II: DPS can't count to potato

So... this group I had in Aurum Vale. 2 were new, the tank wasn't and he was pretty good. The problem was the language barrier. Both were french. Tank is telling them to eat fruit at 3 stacks(well it should be 2 for the first boss but whatever, if you're quick enough on the third, it can be healed through). The tank was dutch.

After the fight(both died due to 5 stacks) he like if you need explaining we can explain. This is when I looked into the party menu and saw they were french. One thing I noticed on EU servers, if a player is playing like they don't know what they are doing.. almost always a french player. And I don't mean that to be rude; The French can only learn from the French because it appears none of them know english. Anyway, I told the tank that those two are french and I don't speak french, then he's like he doesn't speak english, sorry(meaning he did not understand what I said...). So I'm like (I'm not going to be in this dungeon for 60+ minutes.). Coincounter took 10 minutes, the rest was history.

As soon as i see only French as Language on any PT member in a duty i insta leave. Because they tend to fuck up everything and when you explain they just say yes and didnt understand shit. So yeah i am no racist but i dont touch French in this Game at all.

I found a way to get people to do mechanics as a healer.

Tell them to ignore it.

I explicity tell them I can heal back X because it does little damage and so we can focus the boss... but nope, perfect execution of dodging/avoiding/doing X to make me not heal lol

They are there, but at least on Sargatanas, most the ones I knew moved to EU datacentre when that opened up, probably like that on the other aether worlds as well(?). I run into some in the df every now and then.
I know there was a french FC on one of the other servers in the centre a little while back, as I had the displeasure of dealing with two of their members who were utterly incompetent. At least they had the decency to just drop when given polite suggestions as to how do basic holding of hate and curing so we could just replace them.

I once had to use markers to try and convey mechanics to a French DRG. It worked pretty well.

Language barriers I can excuse, but there are times I wish I was multi-lingual.

Fish for your GC. The big game is at 70 now and its mostly what you collect for aetherial reduction into Dusklight Aethersand or what's used for food.

You could also aim for levequest fish and sell those.

I'm majorly into fishing (only missing about 15 fish total, mostly a bunch of tough HW ones) and... (this may not be the kind of info you want or need but in case anyone else is interested-)

Well, fishing is mainly "fun for masochists". First, it's not very profitable. 99% of fish are worthless, and depending on your luck, any type of fish can take a long time to catch. The ones you can make some gil off of are used in recipes that crafters eat like seafood soups. Sometimes you can make decent gil selling aquarium fish or fish used in level-up quests or leves.

Similarly, CUL desynth can net you a burst of gil when new items from desynth come out, namely swimsuits or minions. But the majority of the time, it isn't going to make the kind of gil that other desynths can. And since CUL is the easiest desynth to max, a lot of people choose it as one of their desynth skills, so the market for new items gets saturated fairly quickly.

It's also unfortuntely the worst choice for gathering scrips, as it takes so damn long vs BTN/MIN and half the time you need to use bait bought with the same scrip you're trying to collect... it's pretty stupid.

For leveling up from 52, I would suggest investing in manual items that raise your gathering xp gained (you can buy them from your GC or get them from certain weekly adventurer squadron missions). Pop the manual while you catch fish for your leves, if you have any leve allowances. Doing HQ fishing leves will jump your xp bar so fast it isn't funny. I leveled fisher 67 to 70 in a couple of hours this way. It has always been the most efficient method of leveling FSH.

If you don't have any leve allowances and you don't want to wait for them, I guess the next best way would just be to use manuals and catch fish. If monotony isn't your thing, try to catch every single fish and fill up your log. You should level up pretty fast just by trying to catch the jerk-face green fishes at fishing holes around your level. At 52, I think South Banepool is a nice place to fish for xp (not gil though), and you can catch a Magic Bucket Minion there if you're lucky (though iirc you need to use a lv60 bait for this so probably not the best advice at 52 lol).

For tracking fish I use http://garlandtools.org/ffxivfisher/ with set filters to hide the ones I've already caught. When I need more info on a fish I use Cat Became Hungry website, but I would suggest using adblocker + a trick to make the site think you're not using one if you intend to use it, because that site's ads are pretty malicious lately and it doesn't allow you to see all info with adblock on.

Fishing at the moment is probably the most profitable it has been. Depending on your luck and server market it can turn over 800k-1.3m every 20 minutes or so.

Sure, for sands. But that was already covered by Fiye and it's also depending on luck. Mine is shit. XD

Large amounts of gil is only really useful if you're raiding anyway.

did AV today, cleared first room piece by piece instead of gung-hoing it, everyone ate the appropriate number of fruits, everyone killed fruits before they hatched, etc.

Its one of the main reason, we are a community alot smaller than English/NA/others, so when a bunch of us are terrible its alot more easy to spot. I often end up in parties with horrendous English/German or even ITA players, but I also play with very good ones.

As for the reason why alot of FR don't speak English, there is no excuses.. But again, we are in 2017 and we can still see people mocking those making an effort attempting to speak it rather than encouraging them.

Since I usually play with a few others French BGers we often get matched with Frenchies but I think many of them use the language barrier excuse to not give a fuck.

When I tell you in your native language to perform a mechanic and you do the total opposite that makes you a moron.
