I've yet to find something PLD solos better than WAR. Path, IB, and Equilibrium are incredibly consistent

RDM soloing Shiva EX is about the closest I've gotten to the XI RDM feeling. without enfeebles and enhancements to stack the deck it's not the same, but it does have a bit of that nail-biting tension I missed so much. I haven't done any of the other extremes but I hear they're all doable
still, nothing will ever approach XI RDM in this current system. I still remember leaving Jeuno for Rolanberry and soloing a beetle on RDM and just being amazed that I could pull it off; that was the first time I soloed something way above my level and I felt such a thrill even though it was just a rando mob. and let's not even bring up Ruby Quadav, or better yet freaking Maat. those were the good ol' days
RDM solo in XI is cool in theory until you consider it takes 5000 years to kill anything while also being the most effort you could possibly put into an activity in XI.
Bst is king of solo in ff11.

not paying attention, left o1s instead of lotting on the bracelet and I was the only caster
WELL FUCK ME I'M A GENIUS
According to someone at SE, BST was never meant to solo.
I still remember that one rant at alla with a guy who had a GM tell him that. Too funny.
Anyhow, you haven't truly introduced yourself to masochism until you've soloed on WHM. Buff fest every few-30 minutes or so, Hexathon, dot dot dot dot dot, and so on. For best results, fight something that is strong against blunt.
Ruby was a bit of a joke honestly. Sleep > Nuke, repeat. A BLM can do that and way faster. Well first you got to take care of the two mobs next to him. I think that strat was pull Ruby, sleep him, and zone, so that they reset while he stays put. It was inaccurate for some people to label Ruby as "Maat practice". Ruby can sit there for the whole duration for Sleep II, but this is not always the case with Resist Master Maat.
Maat on the other hand has been debatable for years - had quite a few RDMs swear up and down that there is a 100% win/win strat and he's just a big pushover. My strat simply was, make a b-line for him as soon as I spawn in. No buff time or anything. My thing was, when you buff at the start, Maat starts stacking buffs on himself, and guaranteed one of them is going to blink or shell, or both. The more time spent dispelling, the less time you're burning him down, and the more time he has kicking your ass. My first 3 attempts I didn't do that, and I got the win on my 4th.
RDM Maat can be pretty random with what he does though. Sometimes success all falls on if your first sleep is resisted or not, and you're probably doomed if both sleeps resist, or they just resist at bad times throughout the fight. Sometimes he may cast blink every single damn time and you're forced to dispel them. So for me, reducing/removing his initial buff time is crucial.
After just getting the Squall attire this month, Square does this shit.

I'm legitimately upset because I looked forward to that thing :/. Fuck your long term subscribers Square, good move.
Also LuL what the fuck are they thinking with their achievement point system.
Edit: I wonder if this means I can buy the DRK 300 Lv.70 achievement dungeon grind mount without ever having to do it.
Honestly I can't find anything negative about the veteran rewards. I already got the tiers and finally get a use for achievement points.
TBH really wish they'd go to an ESO model.
Honest to god just make ARR free.
Charge $40 for all content up to the current expansion pack.
Charge $15 for major patch content.
Have subscription that:
• Allows access to patch content without paying.
• Enables at least 1 more retainer.
• Gives you some currency to blow on the cash shop
• Allows you to Dye and Glamour without using Dyes or Prisms (Premium dyes an exception).
• Throws an extra 50% armory bonus. (Or enables it if you wanna be dicks to the free players).
• Lets you own a personal housing plot (And you can cut down the demolish to 10 days of inactive sub time).
I really dunno what else to throw on there.
Like in all honestly it feels like we're going through a soft reboot era with FFXIV: Stormblood.
^ I really like this idea.
Maat was an interesting combination of playing the RNG-based "resist game" and strategizing as well as quickly adapting if things didn't go your way. I 1/1'd him but if I remember right, there were a few tense moments when he woke up early and I had to like, chainspell -> resleep or something like that.
As far as I know, he was the worst Maat by far, or at least he had a reputation for being so. Honestly, there is not a single element to FFXIV that even approaches the hellish, masochistic fun that was RDM Maat (and I wish there was).
hmmmm never heard of this... I may have to look into it. I finished Firebird and don't feel like doing the doggos yet, and I hate Savage with a passion (it's so fun, but PUGs are SO FREAKING AWFUL and I don't have the time for a static) so I kinda need something to do when I'm bored of gathering.
mogstation is such a joke
...except the broom. fuck yes broom mount.
Soloing Potd on RDM is fun as fuck, much better than SMN which is what I was doing it on before. People have gotten to nearly floor 200 solo though not sure anyone has eclipsed it yet (seeing 194 as the highest on the frontpage of all datacenter leaderboards for RDM).
You get to use abilities like Tether and Break that you wouldn't normally use in PvE content.
Sure you don't have haste or stoneskin but you get gravity and bind! And refresh of sorts with lucid, and regen with sustain potions (and drain but we don't talk about that one it sucks)
Supposed v4 clear parties that can't even reach GCO consistently D: I'm more annoyed at wasting food/infusions on these groups.
that does sound fun. and the possibility of a night Pegasus is tantalizing... last one went for over 100m on my server right now (although I sincerely doubt that price is more than a fluke, probably between 20~40m is more reasonable) (also let's be honest I'd just use the whistle)
thanks for the info, I am actually going to try that!
