Winston is purely a team player. Pairs best with Zenny and Zarya. Course Genji also works with that pair. In fact they both have a similar playstyle. Just Winston can be even more aggressive but has a huge ass hit box and a mobility move that doesn't reset on elims. A decent Winston can shit on a Genji who is super cocky and overextends frequently without support (the case with any flanker).

This thread is great for complaining about players who are mentally unable to comprehend logic. My team got killed over and over and over by a Pharah. We had a Genji and a McRee a D.Va and me on Zarya. Issue? Zarya didn't kill Pharah. Not really sure how the computed, plus I did kill her a few times. No point arguing with people though, because logic pretty much goes out the window the second you enter a match, win or lose.

So much truth to this. Trying to argue with those players only ends up making you even angrier since they have tunnel vision.

Looked up my record on Masteroverwatch for Tuesday and I went 6-19. Much worse than I originally thought. Thankfully today went much better and I went 5-1 and managed to get back above 2600 (barely).

Had one game today on Ilios where I got Bronze healing on Zenyatta. Friend playing Roadhog got Silver and Lucio obviously got Gold. We finally had a good team and dominated the other team. For the first 2 maps I was sitting on my ult the entire game waiting for them to push in with their ults but it never happened. In another game on Nepal we lost the first 2 maps then managed to win the next 3. Felt great.

True. I was doing comp and we got stomped hard by a genji since nobody tried to counter.

I guess one more addition for Winston. In crowds, his ult charges quite fast. Hitting two people does dividends. Use his ult as an emergency heal. No you will not dps anyone down that well unless you catch someone in a corner juggle and spam jump to add 50 damage every 2.5 seconds in an AoE.

Shield usage is a challenge and it's something I haven't really got 100% the hang of. One-on-one situations it's a dance going in and out of the bubble.

On Hollywood, I will play attacking Winston on the opening like a flanker. Either jump to the balcony overlooking the choke, placing pressure on any snipers and out of relative LoS of anyone below. Or I take a more aggressive jump over the right building and find a healer to dps down, if not inciting panic diverting dps attention from the choke.. Of course, your team needs to push at the same time to exploit the space creation.

Other playstyle is defensive support squatter. Don't let anyone get to your healers and dissuade them otherwise.

Yeah the bubble is my biggest derp too. I either drop too early when I jump or jump in while on CD.

Honestly though, Winston is fun. I just wish people would quit thinking of him as a protective tank.

Winston like all other heros is really fun and has some god awful frustrating moments. They're just more visible with Winston. It feels like it takes forever to kill someone, and you have to run away, because you're gonna die when you have to reload.

He's great at countering genji, or building fast ult if he knows he can survive a jump in against multiple targets and get back out. His ult is great at holding, cuz shield+500 health > ult for 1000, you can often hold a point until the team gets back, or cause a problem. But fuck playing him against people with 250HP and/or escape options. But so, so fun :3

Tracer is also a good counter to Genji. Can chase with Blink, as well as escape, and her Recall ability lets you heal after a dash/right click combo.

Most of my group sticks to Lucio/Mercy for support, Rein/Roadhog for tanks, then 76/Reaper/MeCree/Pharah for DPS. So yeah we have no real counters for flanks.

Well that's a first. Defend on Dorado. The cart didn't budge past the turn and it was a spawn camp. The fuck is that shit. Though I give props to this soldier who stayed back on the high ground so I could jump back and forth healing everyone. He could have joined the fun, but he was a bro.

And in crazy "That never happens in competitive," On defend, temmate having issues and DCs, lose Volskaya with 3+ on the clock. Instead of crying about losing, we play on when the guy comes back (he avoided the DC penalty), we force the draw, and all is well with the world.

Had two games with leavers today. First was a group of three that picked Winston, Hanzo, Bastion and then left one at a time after jumping the point.

Second was Route 66. Defend last point (barely) and then guy leaves before picks for Attack.

Lost first game from terrible DPS too. Had silver metal for elims after defense with 1 elim as Lucio. Pretty sure was being trolled again. Guy picked Torbjorn, lost the first point, we asked him to switch nicely and he refused. Said he wasn't the problem. Our Soldier said he had gold elims and I believe him.

EDIT: Clarification: First leaver group was on Nepal. Torbjorn guy was Gibraltar which isn't a great map for Torb anyway. Too many flanks and places to aerial to destroy turrets.

I remember some posts about looking for peeps to play with on PC. Can do quick match or rank if you're around the range (2672, top has been 2734 as solo). Primarily play support, usually Ana, in rank but also can play just about anyone.

She is the strongest healer and the hardest counter when played properly.
