I read the argument going on last* page before seeing the "Sexy" pose to keep myself neutral on the idea of what it could be.
So I hope you understand when I say, after viewing it in video form on youtube for research on it... what the actual (bleeeep) is "Sexy" about that? She isn't even giving any sexy eyes or grin to the player, her eyes are wide and she has more of a "I'm a happy person" smile. If i'd give it a emotion or characteristic I'd go with "Sassy", which if i'm to understand, perfectly fits her character as she seems to do a lot of taunting.
I don't follow the logic this parent has either. A video game where the goal is to (Cartoony or otherwise) murder every enemy combatant is perfectly fine. Murder is fun, Violence is good, 'Murica! But a fully clothed women standing in the least sexy pose I've ever seen described as "too sexy" is bad and needs to be removed because (reason)? I get the game is super cartoony and from many videos it looks like a real "Kid friendly" (Or at least, 10/12+ friendly) FPS, so I can see how overt over sexualization of a character might... not blend well, but this.. I'm just not seeing the sexiness.
And I'm not really complaining censorship here either as if I understand this part correctly, the designers basically said "Yah, we weren't sure about it either... and the feedback just confirmed out doubts" so I understand that point of reference and that it was their own choice really... What I'm saying is I simply don't agree with the logical flow it took to reach that conclusion.
Hell her default pose looks more "sexy" than the over the shoulder one.

The problem isn't that some person bitched on a forum about their supposed view of an "offensive sexual pose", or that Blizzard may have wanted to change it in the first place because it was a 'Lazy" piece of art. The real issue is that they responded to the post, making it appear that the post was the main reason for their decision to make the change; maybe it actually is the main reason, but we'll probably never really know. I don't care if they wanted to change it before hand, and I'm fine with it being a 'lazy' piece of art that shouldn't have been released, but if that's the actual reason for it, then don't give credence to that type of post by referencing it as a reason regarding the change of a piece of art, in a Teen rated game, that you have no business showing your eight year old kid in the first place.
If we can't make games, for 'adults', because some kid out there might see something their parent finds offensive, then what's the point of making the games in the first place? Are Symmetra's thighs next? How about Widowmaker's cleavage? Dare we ask about Hanzo's Pecs? I see that McCree is smoking, and smoking is a really bad influence on kids, right? Should I even start on Bastion's big gun? Speaking of which, I thought guns were bad, m'kay? Why are they even making this game?
It's a meh pose, and I really couldn't give two shits about poses in this game in general, since they have no effects on my pew pews. I really don't care what bliz did with it.
With that being said, dude's post was hella dumb, and I really couldn't care less if his daughter watches it or not. Game is not rated for her age, and while I don't care if parents decide that still means it's ok for their kid to watch it, it doesn't mean they can dictate that the game be made for a group younger than it's geared for.
Mom's okay with kid shooting other people up at a young age; not okay with a Tracer pose.
Perfect priorities.
I don't have a kid, so this instantly invalidates my entire opinion on it, but I agree with those priorities in this case. I still don't really see the pose as particularly sexual, but I also don't think many, if any, of the people spouting the "hurr but it's a game where you shoot people" argument genuinely think that this game's level of violence is likely to affect a child's development in any way. Even at such young ages, it's outlandishly improbable that they would ever try to take any of the violent aspects of the game into their daily lives. They won't try to get real guns and shoot people with them. On the otherhand, a child that idolizes a character is exponentially more likely to emulate that character, probably through role-play, which means they'll probably mimic the poses they make and the dialogue they say. If the parent is, for whatever reason, uncomfortable with their child making that particular character's pose, then yes, there's a problem.
That being said, I think the more rational reaction is to not let your child play/watch the game until their older rather than complain about it online, but at least they're doing something. People just love to jump at any possible opportunity to call other people horrible parents.
The guy who bitched was a dude. When people called him out on twitter, this is what he had to say about sexy asses in video games:
http://archive.is/MpbQK
"Really, not having the anime arse is a fair trade for not being raped as much"
No it doesn't. If you see a parent allowing their kid to play in traffic, you don't have to be a parent yourself to have a valid opinion that you're witnessing some really bad parenting and should do something about it.
I don't think most people have an issue with a parent trying to shield their child from things they feel are inappropriate; the problem is they are doing it for a product not intended, for said child, and Blizzard stupidly singled out that post as a main reason for making a change they were already considering, causing a huge PR issue that should never have happened.
Isn't it a form of slutshaming by taking it out since it gives off the impression that woman can't be sexy? Or would that only apply if it was a real person and not a fictional character. Cuz sexy fictional characters are problematic. The dudes also a youtuber/streamer and his current thing is a naked mod run of Fallout 4. I know they're different but I find it amusing
Here's a different outfit with the pose where an ass is barely noticable. Spoiler for big:
Spoiler: show
Here's a man doing it:
Besides no actual woman would ever do that type of totes unrealistic pose for any reason in ever![]()
Its certainly turned into one. Shouldn't have made Tracer's ass that ginormous and given her space-age yoga pants if they didn't want any attention being brought to it. Its just as it was said above: in her other skin, its not even noticeable, and in the Hanzo pic, it certainly isn't noticeable.
You put a chick in an outfit that makes her ass look huge and prominent, then put her in a pose that displays said huge and prominent ass, and yeah, someone's gonna notice. Take it out if you want, sure, just don't do it under false pretenses or feed us lame lines about why you're doing it. instead, give her a win pose hitting the squat rack in said space-age yoga pants or something; display how her ass is so prominent instead of hiding it away because all of a sudden you don't like showing it.
I'm guessing Dva's going to be the next target. Widowmaker's alright because her entire persona is centered around the femme fatalle image, but Dva's just a normal elite gamer-turned-pilot. Can't have her blowing bubblegum while "suggestively" laying on her mech anymore as a win pose. Can't give her a skin-tight jumpsuit either.
There's bigger issues other than asses to address. Like the truth behind Mei.
Yet they referenced the thread in question as another reason to remove it. Again that is why people are bitching. If they just randomly removed it with a note saying it was boring, didn't like it, people wouldn't be upset. Jesus fuck I think sometimes you argue just for the sake of arguing and trying to be right on the Internet
This is still going on?
Fuck.
