It's because McCree's skill cap is incredibly high. Unless you're a headshot king, he's not as effective as other DPSes. At any level that matters, you're not winning with pocket sand FTH.

I agree with that. It's not so bad if the enemy team isn't all that hot, you have time to get off two or three quick shots. But people have a lot of difficulty headshotting, and they get targeted and panic and roll and Flashbang nothing, and it just doesn't work out. He's got no escape mechanic, nothing special except that his headshots are brutal, Flashbang is useful and Fan the Hammer isn't an instant-win button. So I agree that his skill cap is super high, you can't just "I'll go McCree and counter Pharah.", it just doesn't work the majority of the time.
That's why Soldier and Pharah are so powerful this meta. Their buffs and their relatively low skill cap (neither of them is Tracer or Genji) means a lot of people can be efficient with them. Like, when I play Soldier, I'm honestly surprised how quickly a burst can kill someone I was expecting to have to hit with a couple more bullets. You might like Torbjorn, but you just can't do the same thing, and the team's going to have to adjust to you to make it work, which is like handicapping your team in solo queue. Even if you two or four stack, it's still often the same situation.
You're thinking skill floor. Soldier has a larger margin of error compared to McCree. 25 bullets at auto vs 6 semi auto.
Also McCree can't crack a Rein shield as fast as a soldier because helix rockets. If we all remember when McCree was Flashy-McRightClick back on release, McCree was really damn good at the close/midrange with each bullet doing 75 on Fan. Now that was a higher skill floor and Soldier wasn't played often back then. Next the pre-damage falloff nerf had McCree body shotting everyone for 75 damage everywhere. Nerf bat came again with range falloff, now you really need to make your shots count. Skill floor raised to what it is currently.
Soldier's skill floor with his kit was low to begin with. He was just outshined at long range by McCree and at short range by Reaper and Mei. They lowered it even more with the damage buff with marginal nerf to his bloom. Then by virtue of nerfs and buffs, he took the crown of being the all-round dps.
Pharah's skill floor is tricky because you're either a Tribes Spinfusor or Quake Rocket Launcher god with 60% hit rates or me with a 25% direct hit rate. I say she was a bit easier to play back when the explosion radius was larger with slower projectile speed, but her skill ceiling was low. They brought it up to what we are at currently and is in a good place with a higher floor than Soldier but a higher ceiling.
And good old Genji. High floor and ceiling. He was a reign of terror for so long and it's debatable to say whether his floor ever changed because it's a playstyle I have yet to figure going back to "8 second ult Genji." Most new people don't take advantage of his vertical mobility. Making a mistake on him is costly whereas other DPS have a larger margin of error.
About the last point, sometimes you have to do some creative clowny shit to make it work. Example: I'm defending Anubis A. Attackers rollout with Rein + Torb + D.Va and park right in front of the Torb turret. They gain the arch and the left attackway access. We lose our foothold and lose A in less than 2 minutes.
Just roll with the stupid strats. Commit to the stupidity and treat it like an all-or-nothing gambit. If it doesn't work, oh well. gg go next. Main thing is be resilient enough to not take those losses hard. Laugh it off. The more emotional you get, which is easy, the more likely you are to go on tilt. If you get tilted, stop playing. I purposely take 10-15 min break between queues to decompress and rest my hands. Fuck I'm getting old
I agree with pretty much all of that as well. The only part that I have difficulty with is playing into the stupid comp. Like, any decent comp should theoretically have a higher chance of resisting a dumb comp. In your example, any DPS and Reinhardt should be able to deal with a turret, even if it's guarded how you describe. Rein's shield, D.Va's matrix can only take so much. And since a basic comp has Rein, Soldier and Pharah, I feel like they'd do a really great job at dealing with that if played properly. No one should play into a stupid comp.
And even if I wanted to, it becomes insanely difficult to play into a Hanzo or Sombra, it requires a lot of effort to make that character "work" as best they can. Like, I can easily pocket a Pharah as Mercy, and you know she's going to be a terror, on virtually any map. But supporting a Hanzo? Horrible Nano Boost target. I could go Zenyatta and hope he focuses on my Discord targets? There's less point to a Reinhardt with a Hanzo, because he's running to high ground and such to get good angles and what not. He basically has to help you support him, well timed Sonic Arrows so you can see where enemies are and kill/flush them out into Hanzo's line of sight, etc. It sounds like a lot of work (or I'm missing something) as opposed to "Get Soldier, hide behind Rein's shield and hope it works." Supporting Hanzo is the same way, but it's ten times more effort to hope it works.
Basically, change Hanzo to be more useful to a team. Idk? Make his Sonic Arrow cooldown significantly less?
Had the magical opportunity to witness a D.Va quint ult on Hollywood this evening, Was unfortunately on the receiving end and unable to capture a clip of it.
D.Va is getting a Matrix buff in the next patch:
https://us.battle.net/forums/en/over...age=7#post-127
"Currently on live, defense matrix wont block shots until they are a very small distance away from the muzzle of the gun that shot them."
"Next patch the plan is to remove this minimum distance so the projectiles are killed directly out of the muzzle."
This will mean that Zarya and Mei ults will no longer be safe when thrown at the ground.
Are you fucking serious? LOL
too bad unless they change her hp/armor she'll still be a garbage can of a hero
I'm Platinum, but currently at like 1700 SR lol. I literally lost 900 SR in 3 days. Even 100% win matches, 5v2 on 2nd point with multiple ults and rez up, still lost. I had a team with Sombra and Hanzo. I've had more leavers in the first two minutes in three days than in a month. There just ain't nothin you can do but ride the statistical win and loss streaks. I only made 2600 SR by hitting like some crazy 15 wins 2 loss streak lol.
Same deal as XI, DPS player that went tank but is still addicted to dealing damage. Tbh I just gimmick my way to Grand Masters with Reinhardt by making sure someone keeps me alive, charging enemy Reinhardts off the stage and avalanching the next checkpoints. Guaranteed wins on Hanamura, Route 66, Volskaya and Eichenwalde so long as our defense is half passable.
I don't know where this comment is coming from. I am still doing just as well as D.va as I did before outside of the Roadhog hook damage or someone escaping with a sliver of hp.
The Matrix change is HUGE for saving people from Roadhog hook kills. So many times I try to save them with it but usually doesn't work because of the way it functions now. I am excited for this.
against any decent focus you're out of mech pretty much instantly. i wouldn't even gripe that much about the dps nerf but surviving is the biggest issue. like you don't have to take it from me, but i'm not just basing my opinions on my own experience, but also from a pro player who mained dva and scrimmed on PTR almost exclusively once that update came out.
I know I shouldn't expect much from QP but have the games gotten worse for anyone else? It's pretty much at the point where if the enemy team has a Rein and we don't it's a guaranteed loss unless he's suicidal.
same as it ever was
