In a Competitive Match, 2CP, an Attack Torbjorn told me "This isn't about winning, this is about having fun." My counter point was "This is competitive mode. We're competing to win." and wow three people chimed in that I was an asshole? I hadn't been rude, I hadn't ripped him a new asshole (yet), literally "Just chill and have fun." ... Why are they in competitive mode playing Torbjorn on attack, with comps that make no sense. It was made worse by the fact that no one would switch, we had no hit scan, and no one saw a reason to swap to counter Pharah who was annihilating us. When I suggested a swap, they said if I wanted to kill Pharah I should swap to do it. As... Lucio. So they'd rather lose a Lucio and go to single healer Zenyatta than swap the Torbjorn or Symmetra that were our DPS.

Can someone explain this actual mentality to me? When I want to fuck around, I go to Quick Play. When I want to rank up, I play Competitive, where I believe people are going to try harder to win than play the hero they want that makes no sense on any given map. They would literally prefer to lose and get bitched at for being dumb. I literally can't comprehend this type of mentality. Certainly, it can't be as simple as they're all stupid?

You just come to realize, relatively speaking, your actual skill doesn't matter unless you're so amazing that you really can carry your team. I believe i've dabled between as low as 45% winrate and as high as 53.5%. It just sort of fluctuates around there. By far, team work is the most important thing but competitive has no tools to enforce teamwork, sooo....

Which is quite unfortunate. I'm hoping the server search will help in some way of finding semi decent games, but I ain't holding my breath.

Could always create a new account to try and do competitive. Since Overwatch has a hidden stat that determines your relative base ranking, and this is averaged over the entire life of your game, including your shit tier days... starting a brand new account with the knowledge you have now will likely place you fuckloads higher in Ranking than you will ever get with your main.

Or much lower cause you actually suck.

Apparently the (derogatory?) term for this is smurfing? But hey, its a thing. I kind of want to do it just to see where it will place me.

Attack, Hanamura. We have a solid 2/2/2. Our Reinhardt with 5 seconds left decides to swap to McCree to be the third DPS. When someone mentions this, he just goes "I don't trust our Genji to do damage." Our Genji is gold elims, gold damage... Shrug.

Spends 3 minutes at the first point with only Winston as main tank. Finally decides to tank, goes Zarya (which really isn't helping at all with the fact we can't break the choke). We manage to take it because of Nano Blade Genji basically getting a team kill on his own.

Of course we don't come remotely close to taking the second point, I don't believe we even touched it. Post match, people point out that if he had not changed with five seconds left from a key, critical role, we likely would've had more time / trickled less / possibly even won.

His response? "be willing to coordinate more." Again, how do these people's brains work? You want the team to accommodate the member who decides to break the solid 2/2/2 at the very last minute? Your "feeling" of not trusting the player with both gold eliminations and gold damage is something we should coordinate around, because you don't want to play Reinhardt after you picked him and stayed on him for 1:55 seconds, before deciding to cause a major issue? I ended the game as Ana with silver elims, and another pointless tie because someone's brain power was inferior to their ego.

What was the enemy set up? Even Seagull knows to keep off Genji if they're running 3+ tanks, so if that was the situation as good as your Genji was he would have been better served on another class if they were running 3 tanks, and seeing as you barely took the choke on point 1, gold elims and damage isn't very solid since he's was probably just the most well polished turd on the team.

Now if the enemy was running a lot of squishies and not 3 tank Genji is fine, but frankly Zarya was the better pick and I'm surprised you don't see that. You have Winston and Genji, if you're not running a dive comp you already fucked up with those picks, and if you are running a dive comp then Zarya was his best choice since her bubbles are crucial to keeping the Winston or Genji alive through focused fire long enough for your team to initiate on them

You don't "need" rein even if the enemy has one, and with the set up you were running Rein seems a bad pick. since you were running Genji + Winston your strategies should reflect that, you are making a dive comp, Rein is bad in those. And if you weren't then there's little reason for Genji and Winston to exist on the same time. They're backline initiaters who thrive on dives and while they can both work in a standard 2/2/2 shield battle, they're poor choices for that set up.

For that you should have went with Zenyatta for orbing the divers, if you had a Zen then good on you, if it was Ana then again, mistakes were made on the teams part, while Ana is superb she's not the best choice for dive due to LOS, making Lucio+Zen the better choices

McCree was a stupid ass pick but Zarya wasn't, not with the team you described to me. Sounds to me like poor teamwork and prioritizing. A dive comp should obliterate a tank ball if played right, and with Zarya +Genji +Winston your last picks should be something like Zen Lucio Tracer/Soldier/even Pharah. People who can do good burst damage a Genji or Winston can clean up on.

So again, McCree was a retarded move, Zarya was not. Just saying your team didn't lose because no rein, could still be Zarya fault cause he was an idiot or played poorly, but it wasn't the Zarya pick.

i know McCree but my phone doesn't and I have fat fingers

Speaking of phone, sorry if some points in the original aren't clear, editing on phone is dicks but it's all I have at work. So when I talk in circles I know it sucks to read.

I'm not saying you did anything wrong but an alternative to all this is when he went McCree, second DPS or Genji could have gone Rein as well if you absolutely felt you needed one (though probably not). Sometimes to win it's about compensating for irrational people.

    Overwatch, It Isn't New Anymore

In the your overwatch youtube channel, one of the guys has put a nice insight, she could be doomfist's inventor. I mean, you are transporting a gauntlet in the numbani payload after all.

They think she's going to be villainous, my guess as a girl raised in Numbani she probably knows all about the first Doomfist, the Savoir. She's probably going to invent a robot that can use the Doomfist gauntlet and thus steal it.

I don't think she's going to do it with negative intentions in mind, unless she just really hates Omnics and loved the Scourge more than The Savoir.

Lass is actually one of the best Zaryas I've seen. I've seen a lot of his games between watching him, Moon, Tim, and Seagull. Even comparing to the pros, but I guess at the pro level it may change since he hasn't been in that situation in OW.

He used to be a pro SMITE player so he's done the pro scene, but I'm the game as a whole is different at pro levels.

New character is almost certainly a robot created by Efi, not Efi herself. We already have a leak that was correct about Chinese New Year (including Mei's costume details) and details about the new character, including its origin of Numbani. The character is not the little girl, however, but rather a four legged Omnic who will fill a similar role to Reinhardt. Doomfist is in the works, but all we know is that he'll be black so in other words we don't know anything that actually matters

Your logic is pretty sound. I'd say that Zarya was definitely an OK choice, but given the fact that it was three minutes in on the first point and we couldn't make it past the gate or get organized, a big honking Reinhardt shield would've done way more for the team than trying to coordinate a dive through trickling.

Basically, all you said was correct. Now try getting that information across to five other people who are tilting, doing their own thing, when some aren't in voice coms, some can't speak, some are typing, and the clock is ticking. It's got about as much chance of working as ... well something very unlikely.

That's why I like meta for solo q. You know people aren't going to work together often, and picking a very obvious, stable known meta composition goes a long way towards making things work "right".
