If a class is OP in overwatch its probably because they're pointing their gun at your face.

Definitely wouldn't mind playing with some BG folks

My take on D.Va after playing this weekend:
Pros
-She has high HP and a "second life"
-At close range she deals pretty high DPS if you can keep yourself in that range (more on that later)
-Plasma pistol in out-of-mech mode is strong
-Fair amount of vertical mobility thanks to her Boost
Cons
-She's slow outside of her (relatively high cooldown) Boost
-Boost is effectively useless offensively, but that isn't a big deal since it's already covering another major flaw: to have any chance of closing the gap between you and an enemy (especially someone like Lucio), you have to Boost. You have no chance otherwise.
-Her flak cannons have a far-too-large damage dropoff after a miniscule distance and are effectively useless when you aren't in melee range (further highlighting her poor gap closing abilities). The dropoff and spread feel far more severe to me than Reaper's shotguns; I'm not saying that a Tank/Bruiser class character should have the weapon efficacy of a DPS, however the disparity should not be nearly as high imo.
- Almost her entire frontal hitbox is a crit hitbox, no other character that I played or can think of has a similar problem except for Bastion who takes extra (double?) damage from behind, which is perfectly fine considering his role and design. Having almost the entire front of a tank/bruiser set as a gigantic crit box is ridiculous, sorry Blizzard.
-Her only cooldown outside of her Ultimate and Boost, the projection shield, lasts no time whatsoever and is deactivated if you try to fire, it also has an enormous cooldown compared to almost every other defensive ability in the game, minimal effective range and radius, and is all around pathetic when compared to something like Roadhog's heal or Reinhardt's barrier... or, more hilariously, Genji's deflection ability which, for all intents and purposes, is what D.Va's shield should be. Why does the tank/bruiser have a worse shield than the DPS guy again?
If I were to ask for adjustments to this character, I would ask for the following:
-Reduce the damage dropoff on the mech's cannons and make the range requirement less severe, especially if you're going to keep the movement speed penalty while firing.
-Either increase the duration of the projection shield, allow the cannons to fire while the shield is online, or turn it into a shorter duration deflection shield like Genji's.
-Reduce the size of her crit box. Maybe label a different part of the mech as the crittable section... bulletproof glass isn't very easy to break, and I assume a combat mech would have a cockpit windshield made out of ballistic rated material.
This would solve most of my gripes, and I feel it would make her a more reasonable hero to use for most people. We don't need her guns to do more damage at the maximum, we need their range to be more effective. While I feel the character should have better battlefield mobility, it should be one or the other: high speed and mobility and a melee range shotgun, or a higher range weapon and average mobility. The shield as it stands is just pathetic and is only really useful for very briefly blocking off something like a Gatling Bastion or Junkrat's barrage while Reindhart's barrier recharges or something.
That's just what I can think of right now. I'm sure plenty of people will disagree, and maybe I'm just not good enough at playing her yet, but a lot of these issues seem to be fundamental balance and design flaws rather than just a "git gud" situation. I'm not usually one to jump on a balance request bandwagon (for example, I don't think Bastion is as OP as people laud him to be), but this character is noticeably less effective compared to pretty much every other one in the game.
D.Va is my least favorite tank to use, but a cutie.
Such a terrible fate. But then against nothing is funner than running into a group of people on a payload and slapping your dick hammer on them.
Decided to give the dwarf/hairy midget a try. Not too bad, but I just suck at finding good turret spots. I did get his Fisticuffs taunt earlier today, which is pretty hilarious.
Oh and... Corrderio#1296
omg people are fucking retarded and have no idea how to play for objectives... It's driving me crazy how everyone is running around like a bunch of headless chickens AWAY from the area we're supposed to be protecting, rather than actually protect it.
I don't see how Blizzard can impose it on people to begin playing for the objectives more, at least the PS4 community is deeply trained by COD and the likes to just run out there and shoot people up to try and improve some silly K/D ratio, when it means absolutely nothing in terms of winning matches in Overwatch.
welcome to objective based fps games since the beginning of time
I still find Lucio more versatile than Mercy as he can be a pain to take down and can hold his own with his shots/push back. What she has got going is her ult more than anything. Still prefer playing Lucio generally just depends on the teams.
Had an interesting quickplay room where the entire other team was Meis doing insane amounts of freezing and ice wall spam. My team managed to fight through it for the win. Next round they all picked Winston. We were chewing through them then they decided to swap to Reinhardts midround and dear lord trying to clear the objective through a giant unbreakable wall and getting rammed around we lost. Then the following round was all Bastions. Genji does good work with countering a Bastion with Reflect but dealing with an entire team of meatgrinders set up right out of spawn ruined the night.
Countering a one class team is probably doable but definitely not in a pub during open beta.
tbh there should be a limit to # of dupes on 1 team
Agreed. I can't see any reason to have more than 1 of the same hero unless you want to pull a dick move on the other team.
Nah, countering teams like that is easy. Against the all of reinhardts, should have gotten 2 for yourself and a couple of bastions and watch the carnage. A bastion can take out reinhards shield in like 2 seconds, so each one could have downed 2-3 shields and eventually double ult to eliminate the team.
Was playing on Nepal last night. Opponent went Reinheart + Bastion shield in a corner for the first round. 2nd round I switch up to Pharah and destroy Bastion 5 times in quick succession.. Supposedly Bastion rage quit because Reinheart and Lucio wasn't helping him stay up. Derp, I flanked you in your blind spots you fool.
The amount of toxicity I'm seeing in open beta does not make me feel warm and fuzzy for release. It is especially funny when these people get super salty and leave the game and then the team suddenly does much better and wins the game. Was casually playing some AI yesterday morning and this guy goes off on this long tangent because we were somehow losing against medium bots and he didn't want a loss on his record (lolwut?). He leaves and we immediately start winning and eventually win the game. I understand wanting to win and I get frustrated at losing or dying sometimes but it's a freaking game, in beta no less, and newsflash you aren't some undiscovered esports pro superstar so calm the hell down and don't be such a raging douche to your teammates.
I agree with basically your entire post. As much as I want to like using her, she isn't really a tank character imo, aside being labeled as one and having high hp. her lack of self heal, slow mobility outside of boost, and lolshield that lasts for 3 seconds doesn't makes her a shitty tank character compared to all the rest.
Her ability to blow up her armor for an insta kill is amusing, but lets be honest. Unless your stuck in a shitty position, its pretty easy to get behind a wall and the tell-tell sounds of the armor exploding is very easy to distinguish
i don't really follow blizzard and as a result had assumed that this was a f2p moba until about 32 hours ago. tried the beta out with a friend of mine and holy hell it's a blast. despite being mostly terrible at it, i haven't had this much fun playing an online FPS in a very long time. i think this will be the first blizzard game i've bought since uhh... the warcraft 2 expansion? lol.
