Ok, something's very wrong with matchmaking/ranking. Went 5:5 in my placements and got lvl 50. I'm now 37. I don't mind the rank, if that's my skill level, but I just won 3 games in a row and didn't level up. Now I lost the next two and deleveld twice. I have a 49.3% win rate in quick play with 101/104 win/lose. Gone 12/22 yesterday in competitive, 35.3% winrate. Hell put me in rank 1, if that's where I belong but don't put me in 50 and make me suffer through blow out after blow out after blow out. Especially when a win doesn't seem to count 1/3 of a loss.
Same shit happen to me and Tyven. I was placed 51, think im 46 or 47 now. Won 3 games in a row and barely got a level, lost 1 or 2 and dropped like 2 whole levels. idk somethings fucky, and ill prob just stick to quick play. This game frustrating af anyways due to all the one shot mechanics and overtime system that seems to bring every game to 99% for one side and then stalls out. Idk Im not sure ranked is for me lol.
Having the same experience on PS4. Can win 2 or 3 games and not rank up. Lose one and I go down more than I won in those games.
The matches are a lot more fun and competitive obviously, but it sure is frustrating on ranking.
I started off at 37, because of shit pugs in the beginning rankings, and can't make it out. (slowly win to 38, lose one and go halfway down into 37 again).
I think many are not looking at competitive play correctly. Not enough chatting, and while many at least grasp that you gotta stick together, there's not enough focus targeting or timing ulti together.
I really need to find like a discord for competitive playing. I don't think you can get anywhere just grabbing some friends and queuing for fun.
Placement matches were a shitshow for me, went 6-4, 3 of the 4 losses due to leavers/the bullshit sudden death mechanic and got placed at 55. I dropped down to 53 solo queueing support then climbed to 61 in the past 2 days with a 5man group playing mainly as Pharah. There's also been talk that supports in general gain fewer competitive points (https://www.reddit.com/r/Overwatch/c...ill_rating_in/).
In other words, if you care about rapidly climbing competitive:
1. Don't play support whenever you can get away with it. Pretty disappointing, since Mercy is by far my most played character according to my QM stats (25+ hours)
2. Learn a high impact DPS that can generally be picked in almost every match up (Soldier 76 and Pharah immediately come to mind, especially after the WM nerfs for the latter).
3. Play in a premade with voice comms because pubbing is terrible even at the higher brackets. edit: 3man to avoid the soul crushing 6man stacks if possible
I think going into competitive the bell curve is much narrower. So being off a rank or two at first placement might be natural. Now as people are winning and losing matches the ranks are spreading out making them closer to your skill level. Minus some rng and luck of course.
FWIW I played Mercy exclusively in our 5-6man premade placements and I placed like 46 at 3w 7l. Going down basically a full rank on losses.
On PS4 since the update anyone else had issues where it stops recording your kills/deaths/etc? On King of the hill maps somewhere in the first round it just stops tracking them. I just had a match on Reaper where I had a 10 kill streak and 2 triple kills but at the end of the game I had 3 eliminations and 3 deaths...

Well I don't much care for how rank up and downs are considered... I played Mercy on a game and went up by like... 1/10th of a level when we won... when I lost a match, went down an entire level... then i played Lucio, won a match, and went up an entire level + a tiny bit
So basically, I think Mercy is fucked in competitive since it seems to take into account your damage/kills/Medals etc, and as a Mercy, they don't adjust for the fact you wont be doing a lot of that. Thats how I'm seeing it anyway, as both times i played Support during a victory, Mercy went up a shit hair, and Lucio went up more than an entire level.
My performance on Lucio was 3 Gold medals, including Objective kills, time, and healing. Mercy was simply gold in Heals, with a kill or two thrown in.
So again, I think ranking up takes into consideration all this stuff but doesn't give Mercy compensation for being a class where all you're going to do is Heal/Damage boost or kill flankers trying to gib you if your team sucks.
fuck so its not just me then.
Seems to be a lot of people posting about it on the battlenet forums. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

it's not specific to PS4, i've had that bug on several matches on PC since the patch.
I play Mercy in about 60% of my comp matches with Zen or Lucio (all KotH maps) making up almost the entire remainder. The XP delta on Mercy shouldn't be that bad even if you did nothing; that 1/10 of a bar sounds like you got the bullshit XP penalty where someone leaves the game on either side and it screws everyone. Support gets less XP, but it's not a multiple less.
And you really need to almost be an asshole to rank up in competitive. Anyone not carrying their weight 100% has to be punted or you will lose. I am not amazing, but I have a number of friends who are just not great (not talking about BG peeps); they keep wanting to play with me in comp, but we get steamrolled every time and I've lost 6 ranks already.
So I was hearing something about if you only play a ranked match or two a day it can be detrimental to your rank. Is there any truth in that?
