Went 8-3 on competitive today. Net loss two levels. Yeah nah. Y'all won't find me in competitive.

I have similar experiences. Winning in most cases gives you maybe 20-25% of your level or less, rarely (If you're underdog) you can go up 80~100% of a level.. but every loss I've ever experience has taken me down 50-100% of my level, with most of them being 100% rank down.
Its a horrible mess of a system.
Finally finished my placement matches, 2-8, rating 54. I seriously have no clue how this rating system works.
Clawed my way back to 50 from a low of 47 with a few good matches before heading out to the fireworks.
And the placement matches do not determine your initial rank entirely; your quickplay MMR is definitely taken into account as well. For example, the game may believe you're about a 55 rank before placement; the placement games seem to affirm that rank within a range. That's the theory based on dev comments and Reddit conjecture, and I seem to agree with it. Most of the players I know to be better than me did place better even with worse placement records; the opposite is generally true. Some people get hosed though; Char is a much better FPS player than me but he got hosed in his placement matches (including that one forfeit from the guy leaving). Mal is likely better than me and we both placed at 54.
TLDR: Game thinks you're a 55 +/- 5 ranks or so for example; placement matches determine where you land in that range imo.
decided to work on my placement matches some more, 4-3 atm. last round was ilios, i caught 5/6 with a death blossom on round 3 and 4 of them dropped right away. shame because it was definitely a competitive match right up 'til that point, but man i laughed so hard when i saw the mass exodus.
I started at 58 got to 59 sitting at like 55 at the moment. I'll be on tomorrow for most of the day finally off work for the week
One of my friends just won a game as Mercy with two golds and went down a level. I'm very confused by this new system.
He d/c'd. Rejoining is currently broken.
Went ~6-1 a bit ago with Mal and some others and am right on the edge of 53. So placed 54, dropped to 46 playing solo Q mostly, and am almost finally back at 53. Don't solo Q.
I've been playing on PS4, I can be added if anyone wants. I'm not all that good, but I do try to do the jobs and stand on the points.

Finally got on again today and went 4-1 doing solo queue for competitive placement matches. Was much better than we did last week in a group of 4.
Had several Lockdown wins, too.
An opponent quitting really just invalidates the entire match for both teams... even if they quit in the last round of the match, the winning teams is going to be rewarded with 5% of their level if they're lucky, making the entire thing a huge waste of time, and the losing team (usually the one with the quitters) get a free De-ranking for their effort and one guys salt. I know theres been enough competitive bashing here but my god this system is so flawed, and it works against you making it frustrating and unrewarding to win, because despite the fact that 1 loss should not be able to set you back 4 or more victories, it very often can and will.
My brother started at 51 and despite having an above 50% win/loss ration, is now at 46 or 47, I forget where he ended last night... we played together for a lot of matches, him playing offense/tanking classes where I almost exclusively played support, I got more rank exp and ranked up more than him... I peaked at 49(Started at 46?), while he never got back as high as 48(Him starting our night around 47), despite us playing the same games and him outperforming me in many of them.
I'm at the point where I've stopped caring about ranking up and just hope to get enough points for a gold weapon within the year ~.~
I still really enjoy the game, I just hope this kind of stuff gets fleshed out in season two, which I'm sure it will.
On a positive note, had a match where everyone but one guy on the opponents team quit, so our team, being the good sports they were, lined up along the edge of the cliff on Route 66 and let the opponent, Lucio, Blast us off the edge, spent the rest of the game with my entire team on Lucio just wall riding around the map trying to get to weird places. Was a fun Play of the game to watch at the end of the match. Makes me appreciate the community every so often.
I went 4-6 in placement, got ranked as 43. So far 0-2 and already down to 42.
After I finish these placement matches I may go back to Quick Play to see if I can get more time in on heroes I haven't really tried yet. Need to get used to other characters so I can try to counter/not fail so hard.
Double post:
Overwatch Twitter just dropped some info on the new hero it seems. A healing sniper class.

Can't wait. Maybe it will trick some of the wannabe snipers into healing.
That's fine too. I don't care about gold weapons as much as I want to get more skins and have fun. I will likely do the placement matches each season for the icon and spray though.
Speaking of, though, one game yesterday we really owned the other team. Locked them down completely where they couldn't cap a single point. As per the norm, we said "gg" and one guy goes super salt saying we're being sarcastic and then shitting on his team.
If we started saying "ez" and "zzz" and shit I'd get it. But I just say "gg" almost every time (as long as the other team aren't being dicks about a win).
