talented Mei players can practically spam her ult. I think her issue is that she is a situational character that takes competence to play. I don't think buffing her ult will change that.

I don't think she's a bad character; I get picked off by a good Mei a lot. Her freeze gun slowing you down doesn't help anything if you don't have some kind of movement ability and she can take out even high HP guys like Roadhog with freeze > headshot.

I just don't think she has a great place for much other than Assault or KOTH maps. Ultimate might be a good place to try to branch her out, but increases in damage on her freeze gun or icicles would be the wrong way to go, imo.

Mei and a lot of defensive heroes, sans Junkrat, have the weakness of being slow and immobile while only bringing utility or zone control. Mei, while annoying, can't dish out the damage quick enough unless it's a headshot on her non-hitscan projectile, which only happens if a target is frozen/CC'ed. I can't stand playing as her since she feels so passive (reason Torb, Bastion, Mei, snipers and even Junkrat are my lowest played characeters.) And being at 250 hp as an in-your-face hero while having extremely limited escape mechanisms doesn't help at all (See Genji and Reaper escape abilities)

I dunno, 250 HP isn't that low plus she has her self-heal/invuln ability too. It doesn't help her escape from an area, but it definitely helps her escape abilities, damage, and stalls points.

And it's not like you can't hit headshots without the enemy being frozen. That's just a silly statement.

EDIT: Anyway, I agree she can be retooled a bit to be more functional; I just don't think she's really as bad as some people seem to think. Shit's situational, but she's annoying as fuck if played well which is how it should be.

I love Mei when I get to play her (which is rare), she's really good at taking out the more annoying attacks (Genji, Pharah) and not too shabby on the other ones... getting frozen is basically a death sentence if you're a good Mei... though i usually need a melee after my Shot to kill them. But i do agree defense heroes seem unremarkable even on defense.

Bastion being good only if the enemy is shit or you cheese hard, Torb is in himself decent but again, against a decent team your Turret is going to be blown up more than its active... Hanzo and Widowmaker I can't speak on behalf of as I suck at aiming so I'm good at neither... Mei is a personal favorite but I understand her flaws, and Junkrat can eat a bag of dicks.

If I recall on the higher levels of play (MLG crap), Defensive heroes are the least played by a gigantic margin, even when on defense... so I mean for most of the player base defense heroes don't suffer but when an Attacker can, in the right hands, be as effective or more so the defense genre in itself might need to be looked into.

Junkrat seems the better usage of the defense especially in tighter spots like Dorado at the tight point.

More people who can keeps their distance can counter her harder than someone counter a Genji (unless you know his reflect is on cooldown).

Mcree with a Stun/headshot or Zarya's barriers which stop and erase her current slowing effects... but yah... no real hard counter :\, not enough to kill her before she goes into her shell with the two I mentioned... so its just ganging up.
