There was a post on Reddit about someone gearing Bartz for his hybrid abilities and using that if you happen to have him; or if any other units have decent hybrid abilities.

You'll hit a difficulty spike as you near the end of the 2nd island. From there, you're gonna want to start setting up good 5-6* units. That said, special events are usually only hard on PRO or ELT difficulty, with early ones usually doable with good 500+ ATK units. Technically those simplify early story content, too.

Staying F2P can be doable, but they have had some good lapis deals from time to time. You also have the advantage of mission rewards we didn't have at launch. So, aside from expanding slots as you go, hoarding 5k for a good banner alongside ticket accrual should ideally net you something decent. I wouldn't blow your load on this SOM banner, though. None of the units seem good at max.

Also finished my first "real" TM (Gilgamesh), so now my Noctis has dual wield and 583 attack. Nothing great, but not too shabby.

I need better weapons, lol.

The story mode is pretty easy so long as you keep your units leveled up. The most important thing about starting imo is rerollong until you get one of the top tier units since it's your only chance to guarantee a pull even if it takes a while(Less than a 1% chance).

Units to look out for in order of strength(imo)
Noctis
Gilgamesh
Lightning/Luneth

You can reroll as much as you want, as long as you didn't link your account to Facebook. There's even a rerollong macro for nox or memu emulators somewhere on reddit.

Not digging this event all that much. Music is kinda grating. Hopefully whatever is next is better. Also is there a point in keeping these bonus units after the event is over? If they gonna redo them in the future I suppose it's ok but most serve no purpose. Aside from the the few that have good tmr.

Alright, just got my first excalibur and went to equip it on Luneth and my attack only went up by 2. Is there a reason for this? (I was using Enhancer before, which has a 38 less attack than Excalibur)

Were you comparing damage from the party screen, which includes Espers, to the equip screen? If that's not it, then maybe something's borked.

I hate myself for feeling like I must grab all event items. TT_____TT This crap is mostly crap... I'll never use this god damned axe. Ugh I'll bail out of doing any of the TMR moogles.

Units to look out for in order of strength(imo) [Mina edit: also explained why in case people are new and don't know]
Noctis (Brings elemental coverage, AoE Status Effects/ Debuffer and Buffer / Full-Raise / AoE regen/refresh / Jump with self heal+self MP return / Solid LB (builds slow as fuck but w/e), an Arena monster, Weapon affinities... He's just plain solid. Requires dual wield to really open up into a monster but even without it he can provide a lot of support)
Gilgamesh (Brings a TMR with Dual Wield and basically the best accessory in the game. Hits all the right notes, strong ST, strong AoE, stats to back it up, has weapon affinity A+)
Lightning/Luneth (Luneth's TMR is better than Lightning and he edges out in damage due to his chaining being better than hers but Lightning brings elemental coverage which is handy when you can chain elements with other units. Requires more effort. Either way BOTH bring innate Dual Wield which is why for a starting player, these two are A+)

I agree and I'll tell you what I tell every other person who is starting and rerolling. Aim for one of those units + Refia or Luka (The two are both healers that cover two different sides of the spectrum, both equally good having one or the other favor depending on content and if you have/need dual cast). You'll set yourself up for success for any content for a long time.
If you can't be bothered to get one of these top tiers then aim for an account with.... Refia or Luka + Dark Fina or Chizuru (multiple chizurus even better).... or if you end up with an account with Refia or Luka + Ramza(future useful)

Also if you just wanna mess around wit whatchu got the Orlandu banner has to be coming soon... (well these global exclusive shit and backtracking is throwing me off plus we jump around so maybe not for another month or two :/)
TBH though if you pull Noctis, Gilgamesh, Lightning, Luneth you probably are just as set as Orlandu pull (he requires quite a bit of TMR to achieve OPOP) required: dual wield + min. 1 excalibur

[edit] It's definitely possible to play this game and complete everything with nothing but shite characters + solid friends to carry your ass. I have a friend whose best unit is Rain and he does every event to completion. At least he's gotten units that all can reach 5*. He just got a Cecil after 5 months of playing and was so jazzed that he has something other than Rain to go to 6*. D:

Trust Moogles are never worth the currency unless you are done farming TMs and are stocking for future pulls. If you have TMs to farm, especially 5, the NRG is better spent actually farming than the moogles. Tickets, Star Quartz, and 6* mats. The axe is pretty decent, but 50k is rough.

Also I always get the 30k moogle. I'm a lazy TM farmer and I'm in apple so I can't rightly "bot" it from my phone without a bunch of annoying screen placing etc things from that built in thing.

I would if I had known that I'd only get 2 attack out of excalibur, lol. I used the trust moogles on Cecil instead of Miyuki (they were both at roughly the same %; 73-75) My katana is currently marasume.

and I don't even have Delita as a unit, yet alone his TM sword. I have the strongest non TM sword (Enhancer) at the moment; and nobody else in my main group (CoD, Chizuru, Dark Fina, Refia) can equip excalibur RIP.

I guess it'll go well when Garland gets 6 star since I'm going to work on a double hand TM, that stacks w/ his native double hand; and I can throw Excali on him, but that won't be for a long time

I have to grab all shitty event weapons, materia that equate to "useful" regardless if I pull the exclusive 5* or 4* unit, plus all the stuff you listed.
What do I need that axe for? I OWN 8 MERCEDES BECAUSE THAT BITCH KEPT COMING OUT OF CRYSTALS OFF-BANNER. But watch me get it just because.

That's fine, the Gilgamesh trial with the Genji Blade(katana) is probably a month or two out so your Miyuki can take her time until then.

At least that'll give me a second strong Katana then since Chizuru is my second strongest unit at the moment. Genji blade for Luneth with Miyuki's for Chizuru
