Edit: Yep, FFII banner on Friday. Mateus has the best MAG rod in the game, Guy is an upgrade over Amarant and Leon is great too (although it's not stackable I believe). There's also Firion if anyone needs him.
There's either a lot of typos in the Emperor banner description or his TM+ abilities are getting buffed in Global. Guess we'll find out eventually. That rod is still the best in current JP and the GL banner has 20 extra MAG on it :O

So looks like I "only" need to pull for a couple of Leons and hope for a stack of Guys along the way. Mateus is certainly not pull-worthy given the physical meta for the next ~8mo.

As mentioned before, my main team consists of Noctis, Gilg, ExD, Cecil, Refia. I lose ExD and pick up Luneth when I don't need mages. It's rare that I use more than 3 phys, but I do have another gilg plus a lightning to swap in if I need full attack.

That said, Gilg is the obvious person to need Leon's TM, followed by Luneth.
For those curious, the math on Noctis: mine currently uses sakura/excal, genji glove and bracer, BM, PoC, ATK15%, ATK10%. Noctis gets a +35% passive for using gsword (excal).
If you swap him to a mana blade, he'll lose 19atk and drop to +20% passive. But he'll go up from ATK10% materia to 30% on DKS (dark knight's soul, Leon's TM). So far not worth it. However if you drop a Firion TM on him (Equip H armor), plus demon mail, he'll get that additional +20% from DKS (and lose the ATK+15% materia). The grand total appears to be a slight increase (-17atk from equip changes, -15% from passives using sword over gsword, +25% with the 2 new materia). If my math is right, I should have a net change of +2 atk (woo!). And since Gilg currently uses the mana blade and demon mail, that's a double whammy (gilg would lose ~30atk).
All that said, there are a couple of +30% atk materia on the way, as well as some very good gsword-specific materia on the way. So even though his BiS may change for me, it's not enough to warrant farming an extra DKS.

On the bright side, this will make Greg the new top-of-the-heap for me. Now I just need to get Leon (unlike when I didn't get chizu in 50 pulls on the noctis banner but got 5 mercedes instead). So the question is, who would rather have a ~900atk greg over an ~850 atk noctis as a friend unit?

I'm not sure if I'll be pulling on the ff2 banner. I have enough blms to load up an easy Dyna-Windy as it is.

I only have Firion to make use of the Leon's TM, and he's already going to be using Sakura + Godhand/Excal so I think I'll just hold my pulls until Shine is released.

In the long-term, you definitely wouldn't want to use equip H Armor on him to get that passive; you really need to put it on one of your damage dealers that can already equip H Armor to get full use of it. I think even in the short-term, if you use Luneth in your setups, he'd be better to put it on if he can already equip H Armor. In my case, I'd put it on Lightning instead of Noctis since she can already use H Armor as well.

With Firion's Heavy Breaker trait, can Axe x2 or Axe/Knuckles be a thing or is it 1 weapon only?

I'm pretty sure you can't Axe/Axe but Axe/Knuckle may. At the very least, Heavy/Sword for 50%, if the 60% doesn't work.

The Gigas Axe is better than the FFII axe. If you have Mercedes as well I'd say try to get the SoM one, there's really not much you can buy anyway given that most equipment+materia is shit.

The amount of energy used to get Gigas Axe doesn't seem worth it for +9 ATK over the FF2 axe. The energy would be better invested in TMs. Also, according to /r/FFBE wiki, Gilgamesh only gets bonus ATK for katana, sword, greatsword, dagger and lance.

If you have that much already, I dont see any reason not to get the moogle. Not much need to spend money on besides lvling with cactaurs.
